Sonja couldn't tell but she was sure her eyes were wide behind the rims of her glasses, the thoughts were flying through her head once more, she tried to grab page after page of information in her mind, trying to catch up to what was actually happening. Her ignorant state was shattered, she was counting on actual fighting today she thought it would be a syllabes some lesson plans, something like that. The plain smile on her face waned a little as she drew in a breath. Well this can't possibly be worth too much of my grade. her head swivelled taking in the sillhouetted shape of the crowd. "Well might as well just get it over with." she said under her breath and looked back towards her teacher. She wrapped her fingers around the clicker in her hand and traced the symbols she had carved into it's side with a final mental check she returned her answer, "Yes, sir" She was ready to begin at the drop of a pin, or atleast she hoped she would be.

He nodded and reached into his pocket, pulling out a playing card with a general transmutation circle scribbled on it. He’d put the deck together that morning for the class, but he was hoping he would only have to use this first one. He pressed the paper to the ground and closed his eyes against the bright flash of light. Before his blinded students could recover their sight, a large stone platform had risen out of the ground. It was rectangular, stretching maybe 200 feet on the long side and 50 on the short side. The majority of the stone was gray, but there were a few large patches of black igneous rock spread along the surface.
Alain reached into his other pocket and pulled out a worn piece of chalk. “The first to give up of fall off the platform loses” he said, pressing the tip of the chalk to the stone.
“Go.”

Sonja's mind was still shuffling but her hands acted of their own accord finding the engraved marking on the side of her clicked she traced it and felt the immense heat rise from the circle and felt the air become heated and muggy as well. She heated up the water vapor that was lingering in the air around them until it became thick and foggy. She was to reversing the affect back in her home, so in turn she had also learned how the fog was created. It caused her no problem except that fact that the air became drier than what it was. It was the best she could do to try and give herself an upper hand, anything to delay the embarrassing defeat she was sure would come.
Even though her teacher had taught her basic self-defense she steered away from actual hand to hand combat, she preffered long distance fights instead of close quarters and she was going to try and keep her distance. She stayed low to the rocky platform as she tried to think of what to do next as well as thinking of ways to stay hidden.

Tenma's eyes were glued to the professor. The more she got to ssee now the better she could face him when the time came. Two transmutations so far, and it appeared Professor Alain was preparing another with that piece of chalk. A smirk lay lightly, barely noticable, on her face. She had been looking forward to events such as this.

((Sorry to keep you all waiting...))
Alain slowly traced a t-circle while the mist gathered in front of him. He was curious how she’d transmuted the air; he hadn’t seen her move at all. He’d ask about that later, now he was trying to locate her through the fog. He finished the circle and slipped the chalk into his sleeve. She’d be able to find him after the flash, but he didn’t think she’d have a chance to attack. As soon as the circle started glowing a crack appeared in the platform, then more cracks formed, spreading out toward the edges. Then like an earthquake, the ground started crumbling and ripping apart, shooting and fanning out in Sonja’s direction.

Sonja tried to dig her fingers into the platform to steady herself, being blind didn't give you the best sense of balance in the world when the ground started shaking it didn't help. She kept her left hand in air and clicked several times but she felt was blurred from the shifting of the ground. 'I need a counter attack.' her mind raced once more as she tried to think of all the materials available to her. She ran her hand along the surface of the platform. Earth was definetly not her area of expertise but she she had started to form an idea in the back of her mind.
She quickly shuffled to her feet trying to avoid the unstable ground, her foot stumbling into a crack, she fell on her backside and stumbled in her attempts to get back up. She traced the same transmutation circle on the side of her clicker. This move was going to get rid of her cover but, from what she had just witnessed her cover wasn't exactly working like she thought it would, anyway she needed a counter attack, anything to draw their attention away. The circle on the clicker glowed and the mist started to fade. She concentrated the low atmospheric air within the area seperating it and throwing it back together until the air was finally cleared, but a funnel began to form near the center of the platform and the wind began to pick up rapidly. She hoped the distraction would give her enough time to re-group.

((Hey, sorry i was gone for so long. It was my Spring Break (which, regrettably, is coming to an end) and i was drawn from the computer for a while. I'm back now though, so I shouldn't be leaving you all hanging like that again.))
She's good with the air...he thought, tucking a little lower to the ground. He could see her now. She was standing at the far corner, her clothes a little ruffled from his first attack. The tornado was slowly growing larger, picking up the debri from the shredded platform. He'd have to act fast if he wanted to stay on the platform much longer. Once again he pressed his fingertips to the chalk circle on the ground and it flashed like lightning. This time it was a more direct attack. The last one was meant to hit everywhere because he wasn't sure where she was. Now that he could see her, he planned to strike only her.
A blast of steam broke the ground in front of him, ripping the already tortured stone to shreds. The crack shot out toward his opponent, the steam heating the air around them. His plan was to knock her off the platform with a blast of hot air. If that didn't work though, the crevice that was forming would immobilize her and force her to give in. I hope every other fight doesn't cause as much damage...

It was already clear to her from the moment before the fight started, that she wasn't going to win. The intention wasn't to win either, it was basically an apptitude test, although she had wanted to last longer, the odds were not in her favor and statistically they normally never would be in her favor.
Sonja reached into several of the crevaces in the surface of the platform and with drew several large clumps of soft rock. She only had enough time for a few, she traced a quick and symbol on each of the rock's surfaces and threw them into the funnel of the tornado. Tracing a final symbol on the side of her clicker the air in the funnel heated up and the clumps of rock broke down into the volcano ash it was composed of, about the same time the gust of steam traveling along the rock knocked her back off the platform. She heard the satisfying crackle as the heat and friction charged the volcanic ashes, she couldn't see whther or not the lightning she had been planning came forth or not, but she definetly hear a crackle like it had sparked.
Sonja landed on her feet sitting close to the ground with a satisfied smile scrawled across her face. She sent a small click above her head and ducked down close to the platform for cover from her own attack, which should be ending shortly, she had had enough time to gather all the Tuff stone she had wanted, which was probably a good thing. "Guess I lost." She was still sitting close to the wall for cover. "I should have thought this through a little more."

The tornado flashed with lightning, a few small streaks escaping and striking the demolished platform at random places. It certainly looked dangerous, but he doubted it would have caused to much physical harm if it had struck him. A flashy way to go out though. He mentally commended her for that. As the twister started dissipating he took the time to draw another t-circle and repair the platform. It had suffered a surprising amount of damage in the first fight, and he was certain it would only take more later on. After the stones had been transmuted back into a smooth, stable surface, he stood and stretched. He’d spent the entire match hunched down on the ground, it felt good to be at full height again.
He walked to the edge of the platform and looked down at his blind student, who sat close to the stone for cover. “Good job. You’re obviously gifted with air, a tricky element to work with.” He looked up and saw that half of the class sat on the grass in astonishment, and the other half looked very smug. It was going to be interesting today indeed...
“Who’s next?”

The day was lovely, surely, but it interested Dr. Newton Klein very little. At the moment, his focus was on the future prospect of students. Teaching was one of the few things that excited him in life. New students were twice as exciting because that meant that the majority would be fresh; that is to say that while they would have skill and a previous knowledge of the material, they would (in most cases) not realize just how easily one could practically implement alchemy in every day events. That was Newton Klein's field: "The Practical Application of the Alchemic Sciences." Few students had a knack for it, but there would always be that small percentage. He always enjoyed them most.
He also taught Alchemic theory when the usual teacher was out of commission or out on a business trip. It was perhaps the only thing he enjoyed more than teaching "pract-apps." He was currently working on attaining a position as a theories teacher as well, but for now practical application would suffice. He still continued to write and debate theory in his free time.
At this moment, he was approaching the testing fields; more specifically, the gaggle of new students whom were in the midst of observing their headmaster and a peer engage in Alchemic combat. It was always an interesting sight. As the "battlefield" became more clear, he pushed his glasses up his nose with his left middle finger (out of habit rather than any sort of hate), and then folded his arms over his chest. The end of the fight came quickly, and now Newton would have the opportunity to witness a second student attempt to duel their headmaster.
Newton shook his head quietly to himself. The headmaster was deadly, and it was slightly amusing to watch these children attempt to hold their own against him. The Headmaster was among the three teachers that remained a challenge for him. Then again, he had not left the campus in quite some time, so it would be quite feasible for other worthy opponents to exist elsewhere. He shrugged; he wasn't worried about anyone else.

Tenma nodded in approval at the match. This girl was skilled with the air element. One that was complemented her stringest element, fire. Tenma wanted to be next, but then again, she wanted to watch him, the professor, face a few more students. What was to come was to come, as her father always said.

"Well, any takers?"
A young looking boy, maybe 17, raised his hand and stood in one smooth movement. He carried the smug smile a few of the others around him had. A smile that showed his ignorance to the situation. He obviously thought highly of himself and probably had some previous training, but Alain seriously doubted he would be any threat. The boy approached the platform, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked up at his headmaster.
"I'll go."
"What's your name?"
"Michael Jessee."
((Sorry it's so short, i'm putting the actual match in another post...))

“Come on then...”
Alain turned and strode off toward the other side of the platform again, turning to face his second opponent of the day. His body told him it had been hours since the beginning of this class, but logic told him it had been no more than 30 minutes. That was what alchemy did to people. The extra exertion of creating transmutations made the body tired and the mind weary. It took years of training to be able to perform extended exercises like this one. He sighed of boredom as he fingered the stub of chalk in his hand.
He wasn’t surprised to see a small sword in Michael’s hands. Lot’s of young alchemist’s preferred using weapons to channel their alchemic reactions. He supposed it had its advantages, but he always thought of weapons as more of a liability. He preferred to rely more on his mind than a weapon that could easily be broken by a skilled alchemist.
Alain nodded once to signal the beginning of the fight and stooped to the ground almost immediately after. Michael was rushing him, running full force, trying to catch him off guard. The headmaster just smiled and scribbled a quick t-circle, pressing his fingertips to it. He looked through the nearly blinding flash of light to see a thick column of stone shoot out of the ground in the opposite direction of the charging student, but directly in his path. Before Michael could even think of stopping he ran full force into the column, the top of it digging into his stomach. The sword fell to the ground a full second before his body did.
From almost twenty feet away, Alain heard his student gasp ‘I give’ before slowly standing, picking up his weapon, and hobbling back to the edge of the platform. The rest of the students couldn’t quite hide their looks of shock before he saw. Now they’re starting to understand...

Tenma found it diificult not to laugh at the boy. Someone that had been adequately trained would have dodged that without breaking a sweat. Her mind worked frantically, making serveral strategies to use against the man. First, the more matches before her's the better. She understood the effects of alchemy on the body and he would be wearing down soon, supposedly. Next, he was showing her more and more techniques as the battles continued on. This may prove to be advantageous later on. Finally, she wondered who his next 'victim' would be.
