Quinn's smile just spread.
"Gooooo, yourself!" zhe giggled.
Kas didn't like looking like a furry pinecone either, but he couldn't damn well control his fur!
"Urisk. An Irish water fairy. Not an Urcrisp. That sounds like carbonated crackers."

Yay she liked that! She was smiling! Kiba giggled and waved his hands, clearly quite thrilled. There was nothing quite like being talked to in the same sounds he was making. It made life so much easier. His ears wiggled as he stared up at Quinn, waiting anxiously for the next sound she would show him. He had a "goo" and a "tuh", what else?
"Urisk... Ooooh, so you're one of those fairy types! Gotcha. Never met a fairy before. Don't generally have stuff we want. Too much prettiness and flowers and stuff like that." Spark made a face. He liked assignments with death traps and hard to access treasures. He hated being pitted against a magic user. That just wasn't fair. "You into all that stuff? Oh wait, you're a pond fairy. You like lilies and algae and frogs then?"

Quinn just looked on a moment, waiting for the baby to talk some more. Huh! Apparently it was zher turn now.
"Huh," zhe said, and then repeated it, "Huh."
Barry's nose wrinkled.
"Thank you very much, no. I enjoy nature, but that is not unique to me. I am a man like any other, save a few unfortunate inherited traits." The man's accent had grown stronger, as it tended to when he got annoyed. What right did this other guy have to pass judgement?!

Yay sounds! The rat baby watched Quinn intently, ears perked as he listened to what sound she made now. Hmmm... that was a new one. He wasn't sure he could make it. "Buh?" Kiba tried, before clicking his teeth together. Mmm, that didn't sound right. "Brrrrruuuuh?" This was hard! He had never made this sound before.
Twitch covered his mouth to hide his snicker, while Spark settled for simply flashing Barry a cheeky grin. The grin changed to look of contemplation, somewhat ruined by the mischievous look in his eyes. "Nothing against enjoying nature. Just never met a pond fairy before, and you don't really fit the bill. Expected a little more greenery sprouting from orifices, you know?"

Quinn shok zher head. Zhe inhaled deeply and breathed out hard, making a sort of 'huh' noise. And then zhe added the 'u' sound a second time.
"Twy, Fuffy."
Barry arched a brow.
"Wrong kind of pond fairy. The ones from Gaia and America dance around in petal-skirts. The ones from Ireland drown and eat people."

The rat baby blinked when she shook her head, waiting for further instruction. He knew that Quinn would show him what to do again and again until he got it. Or, at least, he got pretty darn close. Kiba watched her inhale and then exhale, before repeating what she did. In, and then out! "Heeeeeeeeeeeekuh?" No that didn't sound right at all. It figured that everything that came out of his mouth was a squeak.
Two eyebrows raised as Twitch and Spark stared at Barry. "Eat people huh?" Twitch muttered, pausing to consider the idea. "Sounds pretty sweet to me. Though I do think—" "—that living near a pond wouldn't get you that many people," Spark finished, resting his thumbs in his pockets. "Better to live in the big city. Lots of people there."

Quinn nodded and giggled. Oh, that was too cute to say no to! Mousey hiccups.
"Ah'luff yoo, Fuffy."
Barry opened his mouth to make a comment, but realized he would likely only get taunted further for it. His teeth clicked shut and his face set as he simply stared.
God, he had never wanted to slug someone so hard in his life.

She liked it? Hooray! It was close enough to what she was saying then. Still, he wished he could make the sounds exactly. Well, maybe when he was older. "Laaah yooooo~" Kiba giggled, before yawning widely and scrunching up his nose. All this sound repeating was hard work! There was so much to try and say and so much to pay attention to. It made a very sleepy rat baby.
Twitch and Spark exchanged a glance, shrugged, and then grinned widely at Barry. This guy didn't even have a sense of humour. Truly he was a sad Urcrisp. Were all of them like this? Jeeze. You eat humans and suddenly you can't joke around. "Just a suggestion, don't take nothing personally."

"Luuuuuff you," zhe said slowly, wanting Fluffy to get closer to the real words. Hm...maybe an 'f' was too hard.
"Lub? Lub yoo?"
Barry crossed his arms and snorted.
"For the record, I've never eaten another person."

Kiba was suddenly wide awake at the gasp, blinking several times in an attempt to focus his brain again. What had happened? Why did she gasp? He listened to her repeat the sounds, and scrunched up his little face in concentration. "Laaaaaa.... buh. Oooh. Laaa buuuh yooo?" That was hard. It was so much easier to just peep and squeak. People seemed to like those well enough.
"Uh-huuuh. If you say so. None of my business what you eat so long as you don't come knocking on my door," Spark said with a shrug. He had seen weirder things. You tended to run into some rather strange creatures trying to get into high-security areas. You never knew what kind of beasts people with money employed.

Quinn gasped loudly and grinned.
"You have no r--"
"DADDY! FUFFY SED HE LUFF ME!"
"...whaa--?"
The urge to kill suddenly forgotten, Barry walked over to his child. How could a toddler, who could barely speak itself, get a baby talking? Quinn was just bouncing and snorgling Fluffy happily.

Two pairs of blue eyes narrowed at Barry as he spoke, only to widen when the toddler broke their miniature stand off. What was the spotted pipsqueak blathering on about again? Spark moved closer to his brother and Quinn, staring at her as she spoke. Fluffy said he loved her? Oookay. Well, they supposed it was better than some of the stuff Spark's friend had been trying to teach him. His mother couldn't complain about "love you", could she?"
"Laaah buuuuh yooo~" Kiba giggled, before yawning widely again. He didn't see why Quinn was so excited with him, but hey, any attention was good attention. He must have said something truly amazing. Maybe one day he would know what he said, but until then he was content to just make random sounds to please people.

"Smart kid."
The twins grinned, and Spark moved to flop next to his brother on the bench. "Teaching him good things at least. Nice work, spotty." Twitch snickered, tempted to give Quinn on the back but deciding it probably wasn't worth it. Even though she seemed nice enough with the rat baby, with a dad like Barry you could never be too sure.
Kiba gave a soft churr, wiggling his ears happily at her. If Quinn was happy then he was happy too. And if he could make her happy then that was even better.

"Name Quinn!"
Barry just crouched and rubbed the back of a finger across the top of Kiba's head. So soft and adorable.
