bataviakitten uh no... hermaphrodites have both genders in one body not none... rem is simply a girl, who only cares about misa. or in love w/e. it's true that shinigamis do not reproduce, because they don't need to. but it's already been specified that each shinigami has a separate gender. sweatdrop ur right. thanks 4 the info. btw isn't it stupid? there r both genders of shinigami even tho they don't need to reproduce? I think it's very strange...

in my opinion, the fact that she fall in love with Misa is because it's a bond from the shinigami that is the owner of Misa's death note
as rem stay with Misa she just fall in love with her personality >[]<

i say girl.
although she may have feelings for Misa, can't girls have deep feelings for their friends?
as in a loving-friendly way.
thats how i believe she feels for Misa, because thats how i feel for my best girl friends. :]

From the beginning I always thought Rem was a girl. I know she says she loves Misa but I agree that it might be just a good friends kinda love. But who knows? She may have other feelings for her as well. IF Rem is a male which I doubt he/she def has a female actor doing his/her voice.

Shinigami have gender, but some prefer not to say theirs.
Also, Rem is a female, but she has feelings for Misa, not because she is a homosexual, but because she saw what Gelus did to save her, and took it upon herself to give Gelus's notebook to Misa.
She eventually grew fond of beinging Misa's Shinigami, and couldn't let her die.
Thats why she killed Watari and Ryuzaki, and in exchange gave her life to save Misa.
