I like avoiding verbs altogether... Unless I want to describe what my characters are saying, I use the word said. Said is such a common word, it disappears on a long page. I do love these words for their actual use, describing the way someone is talking, but not as a substitute for said. They can only be used oh-so-often, and next-to-never the same one twice every... Like 300 words. At least that's what I find in my writing. Also, I find words like "commented" or something stick out... Said is overused in A LOT of writing, but it can be replaced with actions, rather than substitute words like "added" and such. ANYWAY that's just what I find in things I write/read whee
