Song 1: Memory I like the ocean. It makes me feel calm. Plus, imagine how romantic it would be to sit on the white sand and watch sunset with the person you love? It would make me feel so special, and happy…
Haha, when we get married, let’s build a house near the ocean so we can watch sunset everyday.
For real?
If that makes you happy.
He disliked the ocean. It brings up unpleasant memories.
But it was not the ocean’s fault, for he was the one who was reluctant to let go. How could he? Not after pushing her away and then discovering that he was mistaken. She was innocent, her innocence made her a target to those ugly creatures lurking in the dark aura of what was called the celebrity circle, where humans lose their humanity and become heartless machines under the lust for fame, money, power, popularity…
Such was a society where she was ruthlessly placed in. She was the only one who knew that her fame and popularity was the product of her hard-work and dedication. But she was all by herself, helpless to defend against the thousands of questioning and pressures from the media and the fake photos that drowned her in a swamp of scandal, dragging her down, breaking her pure wings and splashing her naïve dress with the blackest ink of opinions.
And he, seeing her but failing to see her state of distress and her bleeding wounds, walked away instead of protecting her, leaving her in other people’s judgment.
He put another rock on her already exhausted body, crushing her will, and breaking her heart.
Afterwards, nothing was heard of her anymore. The bright star that was rising so gracefully was pulled into the black hole, and disappeared into the abyss. The ashes that remained only left people with her name, a name that everyone frowned upon.
Sadie, the disgraceful woman who used her body to seduce one of the most popular actor at the time, and later on cheated on him after they were engaged.
He knew it was his fault. If only he was not this “most popular actor at the time”, if only he was a normal person, someone who was not under constant watch of the media, someone who was able to live a quiet life away from the female cannibals who watched him in the shadows, trying to gain his attention in every way possible…she wouldn’t have suffered this much.
At least, not her name. As for her heart…
It was shattered into a million pieces when he looked at her with the same disappointed expression that everyone else gave. He, the only person she thought would trust her, failed her. And that drained her soul.
Either way, it was his fault. Perhaps that’s why he retired at an age of 26 from the celebrity circle after knowing the truth.
Away, away from the place that torn her apart, and torn her away from him.

Song 2: Punishment Did you know? When I was little, my family went on vacation on this beach. I remember getting lost here too, near dark. My feet felt so cold from the sand, but the sea water was warm. It felt so comfortable, you know? The way water tickled at my feet. Somehow, I feel like I belong there…
If there were past lives, you must have been a mermaid.
Haha, you think?
…That would explain why you are so beautiful, too.
A promise that could never be fulfilled.
He stood, with his eyes closed, letting sea water brush against his bare feet. They promised that they would build a house here, near the ocean, and watch the sunset.
He was here now, but she wasn’t. He knew she couldn’t. Yet he still came after the retirement, bought a small condo in one of the apartment complexes near the beach.
He watched sunset everyday, all by himself. Even though she’s not there, he thought…maybe, just maybe, she would be able to forgive him if he had kept his promise. At least his part, even if it was too late.
He knew it was too late. Just a few days ago he had spent in his room crying for god knows how long until he started choking on his own tears.
A young woman came a while ago. She asked for the direction of the beach, and never came back.
Her body was never found. Perhaps she was a mermaid after all, disappearing herself as the sun went down, dissolving in a patch of clear bubbles, just like the fairy tale. She was gone, just like that. Without a trace of sadness or anger left behind. His sins were never forgiven, his regret was never heard.
The last ray of the crimson afternoon sun gave up to the dark veil that was night. He sighed, retreating his feet from the wet sand, but lingered around. Longer…just a little bit longer. He heard the wind whispering past his ears, and shivered.
It sounded like crying, as if someone was shedding tears, sobbing for her lost love, for her disastrous fate.
He smiled a little. A self-mocking smile. It almost as if the wind was crying for her, as if the ocean was weeping at her loss. But he could not shed tear with them, for they ran dry long time ago. For now, he could only offer his blood, his bleeding heart.
This, he thought, must have been his punishment.

Song 3: Encore I thought I loved you. But how could you…
No, please! Believe me, I could never do something like this…I could never betray you like this!
…How can you still lie in front of these hard evidences? Do you…do you have no shame upon yourself?
I….!!!
Please, leave me…go away…just…please.
…I’m sorry…but someday, you will know the truth, More. Someday…you will know that I’ve always loved you, and will always do. No matter where you are…I will……
Nightmares that always haunted him.
They weren’t exactly nightmares. They were not of scary ghosts or helpless situations. They were about true memories, memories that he could never forget, no matter how much he tried and wanted to.
They were of her, her sweet smiles, her light blue dress flowing with the gentle air, her emerald green eyes, her soft, sand-colored hair. They were of moments that he had spent with her, of footprints that were left in the beach sand, of laughter that could be heard in his garden, of shy blushes and tears of happiness when he showed her the ring…
The wedding ring. They were supposed to be together!
Cruel fate. Cruel cruel fate that had to pull them apart. He knew it was his fault, and he knew this nightmare will never end. Unless he died, or unless he could forget completely…
He wished there was a second time. Because if there was, he’d trust her, he’d not let her go, not push her away and not break her heart.
Because what she said was the truth.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When he woke up in the morning he realized someone was playing music near his room, which was why he was awake so early. The music sounded familiar, too familiar, in fact, that it sounded quite painful to his ears.
It was her song, that song that made her a super star singer.
He didn’t know people still played her songs.
Perhaps out of curiosity, or perhaps out of something else that he couldn’t even realize, he left the room and looked around, trying to find the source of the music. Soon, he was able to figure out the general direction. He followed, perking up his senses to focus on the light notes that were getting louder and louder…
When he realized where he was, the music had stopped. He could feel the warm sea water rushing under his feet, which was grinding into the wet sand. He found himself standing at the beach, at the place he disliked the most, at the place where the promise was broken…
Ironic.
He sighed. The music was perhaps only out of his imagination. It was perhaps a nightmare that continued even after he woke up. Whatever it was, he decided it wasn’t real.
Nobody played her songs anymore, she was dead.
A baby’s cry interrupted his thoughts and made him to turn around.
A Baby. A toddler, wrapped in white cloth, was staring at him, waving her small arms and tossing her legs.
He stared back, shocked at not only the toddler’s sudden appearance, but something else…A striking similarity.
She had her green eyes, her blonde hair, even her…voice?
He kneeled down near the toddler and picked her up. The familiar music rang in his ears again, this time loud and clear. In his mind she sang:
I will still love you…when we meet again.
