She's a little unsure about this all. Through the window, she can see the snow falling slowly to the ground. It's white, in stark contrast to the deep green of the pinecone she has gripped tightly in her hands. The sap is sticking to her skin and she wrinkles her nose in vague disgust.

Gorachi associates pinecones with snow, and it's late December so the front yard is dusted with a thin layer of that crisp white. She could go right out, place the pinecone in a mount of snow, and not worry about it for at least a week more.

There's only a moment of hesitation before she's already made her decision.

Gorachi is pulling on her boots when the doorbell rings. It startles her, and she almost loses her footing, hastily pulling on her right boot and setting both legs on the ground before she topples over.

Pinecone in hand, she makes her way to the door, and is about to open it and give the person behind it a nice yelling, before it swings open and narrowly misses her nose.

"Uh... hi! Great day, ain't it?" Glaring sulkily at the newcomer, Gorachi takes in the other girl's tanned complexion and sheepish expression before flicking her hand sharply up in greeting.

Gorachi acknowledges her friend with vague contempt, still upset about nearly getting her nose knocked off. "Saki. It's nice to see you." The brown-haired girl nods shortly to emphasize her greeting and brushes past Saki and onto the front porch.

The wind is blowing lightly, air chilly as Gorachi pries the pinecone from her fingers, where it had stuck quite securely to her skin. The snow barely makes a sound as it cushions the fall of the green feien bloom, and Gorachi grabs a handful of snow which she promptly melts and uses to rid her hands of the sticky residue of sap.

As she turns around to usher Saki into the house, she doesn't even spare the pinecone a backward glance. "C'mon, let's go inside and do something."

By night-fall, the pinecone is covered in an inch-thick layer of dusty white.

A little parcel left on Gorachi's doorstep, probably a little over-wrapped with clingfilm; the note is bigger than the parcel itself. Rose rings the doorbell, and then - just like the biggest and lamest trick-or-treater on Mischief Night - hurries off. The note reads:

The Note

Dear Gorachi,

I heard you had a Feien bloom that hadn't opened yet, and I was doing a little bit of knitting for the season, so I made him - or her - or any gender it likes, I don't want to pinhole it into a gender it doesn't want to be because that gives Feien complexes - a little hat. (My own feien, Cascati, helped!) (I know it probably doesn't look like a hat, it's hard knitting a hat for something that small.) I've heard that it's a big pinecone, but don't worry, I had a little squash. It could always be worse!

I hope that it fits when the pinecone finally decides to show itself, and I hope to see you in the shop sometime!

Love,
Rose
