Purim is my daughter's birthday, so we have lot's of fun with it, besides the Purim fun. Our synagogue is having Chinese food buffet before the reading and of course, a huge party, so that's where we'll be.

HEY EVERYONE!!!

I'm at home now, and tomorrow I'll get back to the yeshiva. It'd be my first Purim out of my home ( in the yeshiva biggrin ).

I think that I'll watch the guys get drunk. They say that you could see great wisdom when yeshiva guys get drunk, because they let their true Torah come out! I've heard that last year, one guy gave a long lesson when he was drunk, and he didn't remember it later!

Anyway, happy Purim everyone, and I'll be back in one month to a month-long vacation!

You are right. I don't drink, anyway. It'd be more funny to see other people get drunk. I'll ask them questions and see what they have to say :XP...

That's kinda funny about the "True Torah". I may have to check that out sometime.

Personally, watching drunk people to me is like babysitting.

Thank you for the ideas Divash. My friends will like the little drink, it's sounds fun. smile

Personally, watching drunk people to me is like babysitting.

Reminds me of the night that the Cambridge police and the Boston police had to babysit my old Brewskin Crew.

Ok, here's the story, it's cobbled together from the participants, cause we didn't all remember what exactally happened, but we pieced it together after the fact.

There were six of us, Mendel, Big Ernie, the Goldberg Twins, (AKA Yogi and Boo Boo) Ruth and Me. We had a fun night of drinking for Purim. At about 6pm we enter the Green Arrow tavern, we leave after last call, drinking for the entire 8 hour stretch.

As we stumble our way down the street trying to get to Central Square, we were met by some of the Cambridge Police who didnt' quite enjoy the spectacle of 6 drunken punks walking through a commercial district that late at night. So they told us we had half an hour to leave Cambridge, or they would come back and mace us.

They didn't say arrest, or give citations, or lock up... they said they would come back and mace us.

So we decide to go away from Central Square and head the other way towards Allston. As we are heading down the road Ernie decides that he has no interest in continuing to move and decides to rest on the sidewalk. We then remind Ernie that we have to get out of cambridge before the cops came back.

Mendel being the smallest and most intoxicated decides the best way to get Ernie on his feet was to punch him in the jaw.

This of course got Big Ernie on his feet who proceeds to chase Mendel down the road, with the rest of us trailing behind, trying to keep up.

Ernie would tire, sit down, Mendel would assault him again, and the chase would continue.

While we're doing this, a late night city bus for one of the nearby colleges drives passed us. All the college kids see what's going on and think there's trouble afoot. So they all call on there cellphones to the Boston, Cambridge and Massachusetts state police.

So as we approach the Mass Ave Bridge over the Charles river, the boundary of Cambridge and Boston, about... 5 police cruisers from varying jurisdictions come flying up the road from 3 directions, with lights and sirens.

I stand out in the middle of the road as the cops surround us and explain

"HEY YOU SAID HALF AN HOUR! WE STILL GOT 10 MINUTES LEFT!"

That... didn't help things.

Suprisingly, only Ernie went into protective custody that night, the rest of us got a stern talking to, and of course, fined. But we didn't get maced, so we're happy.

Ahh, the old days, I see only a few of those people listed above, every now and again, the rest have moved on.

Haha, that's so great! I have a few stories, but I wouldn't tell any in public. I did pull an Ernie while drunk one time...I decided to rest in the middle of the road. It was warm and cozy, I couldn't help it!

That being said, that was awhile ago, and I've grown up significantly since then. I don't condone underage drinking, and I think most of that time was wasted and a pretty big mistake.

Yogi and Boo Boo Goldberg, fascinating.

My best drunk stories are all from college, before I became observant. I don't think I've been drunk even once since then. A little bit tipsy, once, but most of our yomim tovim have been "dry," meaning non-alcoholic. There's always someone who's allergic to alcohol, someone who's a recovering alcoholic, someone who's going to drive home afterward, or someone who's not Jewish and therefore we have to make sure all the wine is mevushal (and not all the GOOD ones are mevushal, and frankly life's too short for second-rate wine). All those things make it difficult or awkward to serve wine, so I really haven't served wine at all on any holidays. Once in a while my SO's father comes over and he'll always want wine or beer, so we keep it around, but he's really the only person that we know who enjoys imbibing.

The truly fascinating thing is that they're real names are Angus and Duncan. Their mom was Scottish.

The reason they got the name Yogi and Boo Boo is because one would invariably try to do something crazy, dangerous, stupid, or illegal, and the other would try to talk him out of it.

On more than one night I have heard. "The Bouncer isn't gonna like that, Yogi." "Well F*ck da Bouncer, Boo Boo! yeaheheh hey!"

But no pic-i-nic baskets, eh? What a shame.

Anyway Divash, how are you planning on dressing up? I want to wear a costume, but I don't really want to make one, or even really think about it... 3nodding

I might dress up. I happened to be making a Persian costume for a LARP I play, and it should be done before Purim.

I'm new to Purim, but it sounds like fun! I have some Jewish friends who are hosting Purim at their house so I'll probably show up in my Daikon costume I wear at cons. And yeah... I'll bring something to drink as well (Jaeger and wine sounds good)

I've had my fill of p*ss and swill to many times to care.
And sometimes when I stagger home, I'll fall down on the stairs.
I like my women slightly large, my whiskey always neat.
And sometimes in the summer I'll just pass out in the street.

So have a pint of porter, or Irish Whiskey neat,
For heaven's sakes don't drink so much you'll wake up in the street
With the burning sun reeling on your eyes and on your nose.
Naked and forsaken cause somebody stole your clothes.

More obscure drinking songs later.

I already own a salwar kameez and matching dupatta (big long scarf, used as either headwear or a fashion accessory), both in this rich bronzey-brown color with lots of embroidery. Salwar is the trouser, a long loose trouser with a drawstring, and the kameez is the long overdress. The word kameez is related to the words chemise and camisole, both varieties of shirt or undershirt. I got them in an Indian store out near where I'm going to be living as of next week. Actually, I bought two (the other one is teal), for $150 total, and that was half price, because I was the first customer of the day and it's bad luck if the first customer doesn't buy something, apparently.

Anyway, it's very traditional Indian attire, but it's also very common in Persia/Iraq these days (and for the past many-hundreds-of-years). I'll wear that, and go as Queen Vashti. If no one can tell what I am, I'll just be going as an Indian. wink Fortunately, the salwar kameez is long enough that I can wear long leggings and a long-sleeved shirt underneath, and be warm. Normally I would wear it with pretty little shoes, but it's still cold out, so I'll wear the most understated shoes I've got that will still keep my feet warm. I may also add a mask, if I can make it out to the costume shop in time to pick up a nice one that goes well enough with the salwar kameez.

If I like the way I look, I may ask someone to take my picture so I can share it here.

How exciting! I love the salwar kameez. I watched a movie recently about a Bengali Muslim woman and I was really wishing I could dress like that all the time. I bet it's comfy as well as beautiful. I love teal too, so high five.

I think I've got some skirts, scarves, and costume jewelry that will work...

Story time! I told my friend about the Purim party we were having and he told me he was NOT dressing like a porn star. He thought I said dress like someone from the "porn" story...Silly kid.
