Flitch eagerly pointed out the illustration the book had opened on. "See that there? That's King Arthur pulling the magic sword Excalibur out of the stone. The great wizard Merlin had it put there so only the one true king could pull it out."

Deet smiled, taking a step back. He was begining to like this kid more and more: liked good books, appreciated 'em, and best of all was letting his son enjoy them. He'd have to remember this kid.

"Ohhh, so Merlin made sure that Arthur was the only one who could pull it out..." Nihilo said, seeming to understand even at such a young age.

Flitch half-nodded. "Kind of. See, Arthur was the one and only to be destined to rule the kingdom. So Merlin put the sword in the stone so that only THE true king could get it. Once Arthur pulled it out, he knew Arthur was to be the king and served him as an adviser."

He turned a few paged, falling upon an illustration of the Knights of the round. "After Arthur was made king, he got the best Knights in the kingdom and they sat at the round table, to be all fair and equal, see? And tat," he tapped a fierce-looking knight int he illustration, "is Sir Lancelot, the strongest and bravest knight ever to live. Or so the stories say."

"Ohhhhh..." Nihilo said, eyes wide and completely enthralled with the picture and Flitch's story. Deet stood back, smirking. He wasn't sure how much Nihilo was actually understanding, since he hardly knew what a knight was, but at least he seemed interested.

"Yeah. It's really cool."

Flitch was caught up with sharing and telling the story as best he could now, and he flipped over to another picture, this time of Arthur and his knights after the Holy Grail. "And see? They got to go looking for great famous treasures and things."

"Did they do lots of exploring?" Nihilo asked, looking the blue-eyed fish-man in the eye, hopeful. The young boy was still learning how the world worked, but he did find exploring and adventure a very interesting topic. Deet realized that eventually it would probably lead to a lot of chasing the boy, scraped knees, and constant worry of Nihilo falling out of explored trees or getting lost in explored "caves", but he managed to suppress these feelings and just view his interest as cute.
