At first Flitch was surprised when Lorelei took his glasses, but he couldn't help but let out a snort of laughter at her impression. The glasses were a nice touch, he had to admit.

So. They were in the book. Sunshine and rainbows. Now how to get OUT?

"Friendly books and exit signs? Might be something to look for, at least... Shall we?"

Lorelei started to gingerly walk forward, still incredibly nervous. In the books of old, London at night was always dangerous.

"I'm not sure if I saw a glowing sign that I'd follow it in this place..." she mused.

A few red-light women were near an alley, kissing the neck of some gentleman for a pound or two. Lorelei looked away from the scene, suddenly wishing that she had worn pants that day instead of her usual stola.

"Flitch, if anyone asks, we're married. All right?" she glanced down at the Sin, "I know it's sudden... but this place is really not nice for an unmarried girl."

"Plus, there aren't any dust bunnies to distract myself with. I'd have to watch every gruesome detail."

Flitch trailed along cautiously after the taller duck girl, unable to help but glance over his shoulder every few steps.

"Wha-?" married couple? Eesh, he was having a hard enough time passing as a boy these days. "... All right."

"I know it's weird, but thanks," Lorelei turned back and smiled at Flitch, "Our new last name is Skinner. We have to blend in now..."

So, Lorelei and Flitch Skinner continued to walk forward, the streets of London branching off into eerie darkness.

It was when they were passing an alley that a shadow darted forward and faced the two of them.

It was a common thief, but he was scary nonetheless. Lorelei practically jumped into Flitch's arms, but she stopped herself at the last minute.

"Don't come any closer!"

Skinner. Skinner. Right. Sounded... bland enough? Certainly nothing worth thinking twice at. Self-consciously he straightened to his fullest unimpressive height, trying to look more, uh, imposing? It was a look he could certainly never pull of, but it was at least worth an effort.

He too jumped when the thief darted out, almost letting out a frightened squeak at the same time. Fortunately it stayed stuck in his throat. He had shrunk back when he jumped, but he remembered he was supposed to be the husband. He was supposed to do the standing up and defending Lore.

Oh how he hated playing the boy sometimes.

"We don't have anything of value," he added, his tone surprisingly calm. "You'd best be on your way."

...Ha! Take THAT, bad crook person!

Lorelei nodded when Flitch said what he did, and then she reached down to her stola. Quickly, she flipped her skirt and retrieved a large knife from a garter-belt.

It was supposed to carve meat, it looked like. But Lorelei held it, the metal glinting in the foggy moonlight.

"If you don't leave... I'll cut your throat and serve you to rich folk for a a few pounds. Or I might miss... and cut it off."

Any further threats were interrupted by the screams of a few men and women.

"My god! My god! What did that man DO?!"

"It looks like he was attacked with a cane..."

"Murder! There's been a murder!"

Stars and stones. A giant KNIFE? Flitch did NOT want to know why Lore was carrying a giant knife in the first place. Never ask the questions you don't want to hear the answers to.

Regardless, he let Lore do the threats. Not like he had anything to scare off the criminals, anyways. Yet when the screams arose, Flitch's head couldn't help but whip towards the source of the voices, his face losing all of its color.

What to do now? Run and hide or go have a look-see?

Easy choice. Flitch grabbed Lore's wrist and tugged her towards the voices. A corpse wasn't something he wanted to see, but there were people there. With people they'd be safe. Well, safer, at least.

"Come on."

The corpse was of an old man, horribly beaten to death with a blunt object. His clothes were damp with blood, and his face -- what was left of it-- was in a state of shock.

Lorelei ran a little behind Flitch, looking ahead at the boy who had grabbed her wrist. She held tightly onto the knife that she clutched until her knuckles were white.

When they arrived, she shoved the knife back into her garter belt with her loose hand, letting Flitch still hold onto her. She looked over at Flitch, her mouth open slightly to suck in more air from all the running.

"That was impressive, Mr. Skinner," she said, "Thank you. You stopped me from doing something that might've made us look even more conspicuous."

Flitch had no intentions originally to take even a glance in the direction of the corpse. However, it was one of things he found he COULDN'T look at. A quick peep, and the little fish gasped. How horrible! It was not the first corpse Flitch had seen, but this one was FAR more brutal. Please stay down, lunch. PLEASE stay down.

"I..." He quickly looked away. "It's fine. We should stay with people, though. Away from the dark alleys."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 7:11 pm

Stay with people. Right.

The people they were currently with were staring at them like they had a third arm sticking out of their foreheads and waving at them.

Lorelei looked to the left, to the right, then lifted a hand and said, "So, ah... the elusive Mr. Hyde struck again?"

Despite the weird clothes and accents of the Sin, the people simply nodded and went back to their investigation.

"We've got to find a way to get out of here, Flitch... do you have any ideas?"

Hmm. Stares. That could be bad. Should he think up an excuse or-? Oh wait. Lore had it covered. Phew.

Get out, though. That was the million dollar question. "I'm not sure," he admitted. "Maybe we can search for an exit? Or!" A sudden thought struck him. "Maybe we go along with the book's plot. Maybe we'll escape once it's done."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 7:49 pm

"The book's plot..." Lorelei's eyebrows drooped sadly, "How long will that take? You've read the book, haven't you?"

Lorelei crossed her arms, "We have to find a place to stay if it takes really long... I don't want to stay out in the streets..."

"Not terribly long, I don't think." Right? It'd been forever since he'd read the book. But shelter would probably be good. Find a place to hide and perhaps find a way to blend in.

Wait. Did they have any money? Flitch rarely carried it on him. Nor did he have anything of value. "We may need to find some cash first." Money makes the world go round and all that.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 9:40 pm

Lorelei dug in her stola and pulled out a few gold pieces.

"This isn't good... I doubt that London takes gold pieces," she sighed. Not even her pockets had dustfluffs.

"What should we do?"

A few harlots a couple of alleys over giggled, and Lorelei shuddered before muttering, "At least we know what we WON'T be doing!"

The group of people still murmured amongst themselves, before one of them suggested that they go to the pub The Red Rat to think in an atmosphere not reeking with corpses.

"Let's follow them," she shrugged.

"We might be able to trade the gold in for money in the morning," Flitch offered. It should have some exchange value, after all.

He nodded at the advice. "Yeah. We should really get off the streets." Especially with a killer on the loose. "Perhaps we can find a bit of work to pay for a night." Washing dishes wouldn't be too bad.

Trailing along after the gaggle of people, the Red Rat was an place that was only a few blocks from the corpse. It was crowded, Flitch noted as Flitch and Lore entered, though the atmosphere was rather subdued. Tobacco smoke hung thickly in the air, singing Flitch's eyes.

"What do you think?" he asked Lore. It seemed like as good a chance as any, but he wanted the taller girl's opinion first before taking any action.
