I love home made masks. I'll give that one a try this week.

I love doing an oatmeal mask. Basically hot water, with oatmeal, I throw in some honey and layer it on. If I want to get fancy, I put on green tea bags on my eyes. I usually steam my face first (face over a bowl of boiled water with a towel) for a few minutes before the mask.

Here's a bunch of stuff I've read is good for facial masks/cleansers.

Avocado
cucumber (actually I didn't read it, but I see it in all of the store masks. I did read the putting them on your eyes reduces baginess or something)
lemon juice (apprently if you rub a lemon on your face before bed it'll help fight blackheads
milk
egg (the egg white and egg yolk have different properties, one is good for oily skin, the other I think for dry skin.)
olive oil
honey
green tea
oatmeal
aloe

Lots of other stuff, I forget now.

I just finished my last semester of college (fingers crossed, grades aren't official yet) So I've been uber stressed and my skin, especially on my face, is just xp
I've never made my own mask before, but what with being kinda broke, and always believing in nature having some of the best remedies, I thought I'd give it a go. Since it was totally experimental. I tried to take all of the above and make an ubber mask. There was a lot of stuff I didn't have though, like avocado, I heard a lot of good things about that.

So Here's what I did. Green Tea (made with "gunpowder" Tea leaves that had been sitting since the night before. a bit of mil, a touch of olive oil, a whole egg, squeezed lemon, and honey, oh ya, and aloe gel. Now my honey was a bit liquidy since I had to heat it just to get it out of the container. So my mask was really runny and hard to apply. If anyone attempts this, do it in the shower or over a large sink. Because of the honey though, it does harden a bit, so it's easy to leave on. I still have it on right now, only time will tell if this actually has any kind of effect. I'm gonna go hop in the shower, rinse this off and wash my hair. Which leads me to my question. Any natural shampoos? I know someone at my college makes some, but she only sells it at events like earth day etc.

I've tried various no-poo methods (no shampoo) with not much success. The most I've come away with is using diluted vinegar on my hair as a clarifying rinse.

Some people can get away with using baking soda applied to scrub the scalp & then rinse, but it makes my hair all gunky.

It's not all natural, but I currently use Lush's solid shampoo bars.

I have short hair, so I can get away shampooing my hair once a week. With my longer hair, I would have to wash it once a day. I use vinegar every now and then as well. I actually like the smell. o.o

I've tried baking soda, but I found it really made my hair quite static-ey.

I did the mask again, I had to use grapefruit juice instead of lemon juice and I didn't bother with the egg, I felt more of a difference with the first mask I did. I want to try one, go all out, go buy avocado and oatmeal and cucumber and really make a good one and use it maybe everyday for a week and then see if there is any difference.

I don't quite understand what you're asking about hair growth. Do you want to slow down growth or speed it up?

Poor nutrition will affect the speed of hair growth. I know some people swear that taking Borage oil will increase hair growth.
For hair growth, rubbing jojoba oil into the roots of your hair will make it thicker, healthier, and it will grow longer faster. Jojoba oil is the closest oil to our own natural oils in our body, so I am informed.

i'm wearing the mask right now [:

although i use it primarily to hydrate and moisturize my skin. my skin on my face, hands, and feet is so dry that it peels regularly, especially after i wash my face with an acne-medicated scrub.

this stuff leaves my skin feeling super smooth and irresistably soft [:

thank you onicoe!

Awww! Oh my gosh! The face mask ideas sound awesome. 3nodding I've never even tried a face mask before, but it sounds interesting. I don't really get that much acne, but I'll think it'll reduce the redness. ^_^ Thank you so much! heart

This is not a mask, but something I used to whip up on a regular basis for a girl who worked in the meat department of the local grocery--she had an ongoing battle with acne (all the fat that she worked with) and it really helped her.

I would re-batch a basic soap that I made, and add about 4 tablespoons of calamine lotion per 5 oz. bar. You could probably do this with your favorite basic soap (I would try Lowila, if you can find it---it already has cornstarch, which is soothing).

Just grate your bar of soap into a saucepan (no nonstick pans!), add the chamomile lotion and a small amount of water, heat gently while stirring until it all melts together. It should be about the consistency of Play Dough. Turn it out onto a piece of waxed paper to cool, and when you can handle it, make any shape you like. You really should let the bar continue to harden for at least a week, turning it everyday so that the extra water you added can evaporate. And of course, don't let it just sit in a puddle when you start using it!

There is no reason why you couldn't make it a liquid soap by just adding more water when you rebatch the soap, then just put it in a pump bottle.

Lush sells a soap that has calamine in it.

That would certainly be easier. It really did help her a lot.

Not directly for acne, but I'm tired of the small little black heads that I have and found these home remedies on the webz0rs:

Plain Yogurt Facials:
Yogurt & honey = moisturizing
Yogurt & lemon = anti dullness
Yogurt & orange peel = pore cleaning

Other Weird Concoctions:
Cornstarch & vinegar - leave on 15-30 minutes
Boiled water & baking soda - steam a cloth and place on face

Egg whites - either alone or with honey. Place on face until dry and remove.

Let me know any others.. I have much spare time on my hands. emo

Edit: Steamed my face, did yogurt and honey and followed up with egg white and green tea bags on my eyes. My eyes are pretty sore and tired these days, so tea bags really really help.

Yogurt made my skin feel really thick, not sure if it's something I would of liked. The egg white, when dry, is tight. I couldn't move my head or open my mouth at all. Washing it off, my skin feels pretty spiffy and I'd like to think my pores look better.

i'm wearing the mask right now. it smells lovely. heart
if it works well i'm definitely going to make it again.

i've been on antibiotics for the past couple of weeks because i got a really bad staph infection(it required surgery, but it's healing really well). the antibiotics cleared my face up a lot, but now that i'm off them my acne's starting to come back. i'm hoping i can use natural remedies to put an end to the zits. gonk
