Chronos smiled lazily. "I, on the other hand, have seen this scarecrow pony. If I remember correctly, he was very insistant upon finding you."

Chronos sighed. "That is the problem. When he found out I did not know you, he went on his way. I do not know where he is right now. I am sorry." He bowed slightly.

Elphaba blinked at the pony. That was actually sincere. All right, well, won't be the first time my first instincts about someone were incorrect. Elphie sighed. "Thank you for telling me, Chronos." She left it at that, though she half wanted to throw herself at him screaming "He's alive! Thank you for telling me he's alive! Thank you! All hail Chronos, who isn't so bad after all!" But she resisted this urge. Even in her head it did not seem like a good idea.

Chronos smiled faintly. It seemed that she was capable of courtesy. "Sunchaser, isn't there something our herd can do about this?"
Sunchaser grinned. "Yes there is. I'll put out an APB on Fiyero. Someone in our herd is bound to see him."

"An All Pony Bulliten. Basically it means that if they should see Fiyero, they need to report to me immediately. It increases our chances of finding him by knowing what moves he is making." Sunchaser laughed at Ephie's reaction. "I promise, it's not bad, though. It can be, but this one isn't."

Now Elphie narrowed her eyes at Sunchaser. "Do you deem yourself all-powerful in your herd?" she asked accusingly. She couldn't help it. It just sounded so . . . wizardy of him.

Sunchaser looked hurt. "I'm not an all-powerful leader. I am the leader of my herd, but I am never all-powerful. I treat my position gingerly, trying to do good by those who trust me to make important decisions for them. I don't do it alone, either. I have friends who give me advice when I need it. That you would think such a thing of me is hurtful."
Chronos stiffened. Sunchaser was beloved by his herd. To insult him like Elphie had done was cause for retaliation. Sunchaser would not approve of such an action, but his herd would go against him to protect him. "Miss Elphaba, I do not think you understand how highly our herd views Sunchaser. Such accusations could present problems for your search for Fiyero. Neither Sunchaser nor I want that. I know that you do not, either." Chronos sincerely wanted to help Elphaba, but he had a responsability to his herd. The Herd came first, unfortunately. He did not wish to fight with her. She could be a powerful ally.

Elphie shook her head sadly. "I sincerely apologize, Sunchaser," she began. Knowing they deserved an explanation, she continued, "I am afraid my past has made me a bit, or majorly, paranoid. I have issues with authority, for one. I was betrayed by someone who, like Sunchaser, was in a position of power and leadership. Unlike Sunchaser, the Wizard was not a good person. I jump to wrong conclusions sometimes, but, Fiyero always told me it was all right because I always realized my mistake in the end. Please accept my apology. You sound like a very good leader and a very loyal friend." Before she started crying again, Elphie stopped talking. She'd never been very good at this whole apologizing thing. She'd never had anyone to learn it from . . . except Fiyero. Kind of.

Sunchaser smiled at Elphie. "Do not fret so, Miss Elphie. Everything is fine. Your past explains what you do, and I could never hold it against you. Friends accept apologizes and understand one another's actions. Consider any offense to be gone. Please, do not cry."
Chronos kneeled before Elphie. "My words were harsh, Miss Elphaba, and I apologize for speaking so, but I believed it to be necessary. I too, value your friendship, and it would be wrong not to ask for your forgiveness for my actions."

Chronos arose, fluidly reaching his feet. "I am thankful for your understanding." He smiled, happy for once since his "Break" from guarding the gates.
Sunchaser grinned. "All's well that end's well!"

Elphie smiled, grateful that for once she had friends who weren't talking Animals. Oh, wait, they were talking Animals. Well, she was grateful for them anyway. "So, you think this APB thing will work?" she asked.
