She sounded… jealous? His mood darkened without warning, and the air around the god turned to ice in the cold light of his eyes. The life he had was nothing to be jealous of.
This was a waste of time, this naïve little goddess of insubstantiality nothing but a bore. Scarlet flashed coldly, piercing her misty veil in a heartbeat, and Kuragari stood. This conversation was at an end.
But as he moved to leave, the chains wrapped around his front paws clinked, then sang out into the darkness a single, clear note. One note, but somehow disturbing in an indefinable, off-key way. He froze, eyes staring into the distance for an instant, and then breathed deep, as if the sweet incense around them could calm some of the tension in his mind. Only an instant did it last, and the expression on his face had not changed when he settled down again as if nothing had happened.
What had they been talking about? Oh, yes. "Is it? What makes knowing one's family so important to you?"

She was taken aback by his abrupt change and stared hard at him for a long moment before speaking. Her voice was low and strange. It was not overtly hostile, but the soft edge it had a moment before had gone. "I merely said it could be counted as a good thing." She shrugged, dismissing the issue completely. The scented mist around them had shifted, once again to a more subdued scent meant to sooth. Her tail flicked irritably behind her as she looked away from Kuragari. Her ears twitched as she listened to this or that noise in the gloom. Looking back to him she sighed slightly. It was merely an exhalation of air as she tried to figure out this enigma before her. Her wings fluttered softly in the breeze. "Do you tire of me?" she finally asked.

He had almost lost control, the careful control that had taken him nearly all of his kithood to build up. There was no other explanation for that nearly-forgotten sound. When was the last time that had happened? Kuragari realized that Salvia had spoken, though what he had not heard, and the god's eyes narrowed at her stare; he was not about to acknowledge that anything out of the ordinary had occurred.
With difficulty he tried to smooth some semblance of calm over his mind again. He was a god, and he was alive, and that was that. Kuragari was far from some foolish mortal, to snivel about needing a higher purpose in life than the one he had been created for; all his regrets had died long ago.
It had nothing to do with the goddess who was still watching him, the amusement from before gone from her expression.
"What would make you think that?" Though the hint of a purr laced Kuragari's words once more, it came out somewhat rougher than he had intended, his good humor - or at least, what passed for good humor for the impassive god - still not quite returned.

She looked back at him, her eyes narrowed slightly. She regarded him a long moment before taking his lead and pretending she had said nothing at all. She shifted her front paws slightly, the fabric of her sleeves shuffling. It was the only sound in the darkness and Salvia found it relaxing. The woods were unusually hushed, but she attributed that to her current company. He seemed a bit ruffled, but she couldn't imagine by what. He seemed quite the dark and brooding creature. She glanced back up at the sky which had begun to lighten. Had they really talked all night? Ah, well.

He followed her gaze to the sky, and let out a breath to see the darkness seeping away. "Morning comes." The words sounded almost surprised; daybreak, an end and a beginning, here so soon? Perhaps this unexpected meeting had not gone entirely well, but... Salvia certainly was an interesting goddess, he had to give her that much. Maybe they would meet again. Somehow. Despite himself, the impassive god found his mood changing again, to a half-anticipation of that day - even though he knew that she would not.
He sighed, muttered something unintelligible under his breath; could it have been, "I'm sorry"? Probably not likely. At any rate, she was sure to leave soon now, find some more enjoyable company.
It didn't matter.

She took her cue to leave and rose, stretching her wings in the brightening light. She looked down to Kuragari for a long moment, confused by her own feelings. He was such a dark creature, but she found him likable nonetheless. Had she made a friend? A smile found its way upon her face. She hoped so. "Until we meet again, Kuragari." She said softly with a short bow. "I should like to find your company again." She gave him a kind smile as the dark and heavily scented mists started to engulf her. She fluttered her wings and rose into the air slightly as her form became more and more obscured until she was no longer visible. A breeze blew through, wiping away the incense smoke and she was gone.
