Tamri nodded, not that it was necessary with her current company. "Yesss. If not elssse we can make sssure if it hasss anything to do with my brother."
They continued on, the distinct trail of a Nightmaren she didn't recognize becoming clearer as they went. There was still something strange about it though... she couldn't quite put a paw on it. A faint taste of blood filtered into the air after just a bit longer, becoming strong enough to be almost overpowering. And there was the sound of some small creature crying...
Tamri faltered for a moment before pushing forward, thinking perhaps the Nightmaren they had scented was somehow injured. But a heavy ball of dread had settled in her stomach, telling her that this was not a good idea. Some instinct made her halt when she felt the sun suddenly beating down heavily on her back after stepping out of the shelter of the trees, ears swiveling like mad to try and figure out what was going on in front of her.(DUN DUN DUUUUUUN) The dark Nightmaren seemed stained with blood by nature itself and not just the acts he'd recently committed, strange runic markings trailing down his ears and flanks as well as ringing his neck and legs glowing with a malevolent sort of light. The young mountain lion trapped between his forepaws quailed at the sight of him, repeatedly crying to the mother that lay a few feet away, disemboweled and shuddering through her lasts breaths. There would be no rescue from this monster.
Or would there?
Seij forcibly turned the feline toward the sound of newcomers, using its eyes to peer at what had happened to find him and offering a terrible leer when he realized what it was. Or rather, who it was. Heavy paws lifted and the cat ran to its mother, crying piteously. It would survive this day if only because the dark-hearted Nightmare knew it would not likely survive the winter on its own. That and he thought perhaps he had found more interesting prey to torment...
The female... did look so very much like her mother. Would she be as much fun to play with? "You do realize how very rude it is to stumble across someone who's just made a kill and stand there without a word like leering sneak thieves afterward, I would hope?" The words were innocent enough, but something about the way he said it, something in the very air around him... obviously set the little teal Nightmaren on edge.
Time to throw her off. "So how is dear Khael, little one? I assume she's your mother, your scent is very similar..." His tone became almost fatherly. "I haven't seen her in such a long time, I didn't realize she'd finally found herself a mate and had children. I do wish she'd told me."
He turned his attention to the male, briefly at least. He was for more interested in her, after all. "And you? A friend of the family, perhaps?"

Azren's fur had stood on end as they approached. Not only had the growing scent of so much blood unnerved him more than he had liked, but the way Tamri suddenly started to lose her focus made him more and more nervous... and that said something for a Nightmare. His ears swiveled towards his front, listening as he tried to piece everything together. Suddenly he caught the scent of another Nightmare, hissing loudly even though he did not recognize them.
As the other male spoke he shifted himself just closer to Tamri, tails twisting knots behind him in growing agitation. He caught the sound of the young lion fleeing, only barely registering it as he focused on this new menace. He listened as he spoke, once furtive anger now twisting into a bout of confusion. Her mother...? His blind eyes blinked once or twice, brow furrowing together as he fought to comprehend what the older male was saying... just in time for him to be addressed.
"It's none of your concern." he spat, a soft hiss escaping again. His runed fur ruffled and went back on edge, beak clacking quietly as he stood his ground.

Tamri shifted uneasily, some instinct in the back of her mind telling her to leave now, or even hide behind Azren, but she decided to take a few steps forward instead. She did not trust this one... not at all, even if he did seem to know her mother, and probably from before she came here.
"Mother'sss tiesss to anyone before ssshe came here were cut when ssshe got here." She would not admit Khael's amnesia to this nerve-wracking stranger. She had a feeling that would not turn out well. "Ssso, asss he sssaid... it isss none of your concssern."
The child had more guts than her mother, he would grant that. Unfortunately she seemed to be a better judge of character as well. Pity, she probably would have make a nice little pet. "Has she not even spoken of me? Ankoku Seijin... I practically raised the poor dear."
"No."
He knew she told the truth. The lack of reaction to his name spoke volumes more than her answer could have. His work didn't end Khael, but she was twice a fool if she hadn't bothered to warn her children of him simply because she thought she'd escaped him in this strange new land. "I shall have to find your mother and remind her of her manners, then."
He lunged then, those slightly angry sounding words giving very little warning, making sure of his aim using the eyes of the young mountain lion that yet clung futilely to its dead mother's paw. Jaws aimed at Tamri's throat connected instead with the meat of her shoulder and she hurriedly shifted to the side, but the follow up blow with his clawed foot that would have finished the job never even rose off the ground.
Pain. It seared up his jaws and across his face and straight through his skull into his brain. His thought was simply to get away and he jerked back, shrieking like a wounded beast. He recieved a backhand blow from her wounded leg before he could re-orient himself and stumbled to the side even as he heard her retreat. Expletives coursed through his mind, followed shortly by his mouth as he tried to figure out what had just happened. Whatever it was it had cost him what was probably his one chance to end her before the male could step in to help...
Tamri stumbled back beside Azren, doubly awkward with the wounded leg and her unwillingness to turn her back on the threat. A growl echoed up her throat and just a bit off the surrounding trees, the sound loud and angry and just short of turning into a roar of outrage. "Not asss easssy to take out asss you thought I would be, am I you bassstard?"
