Prompt: Power Manifestation I

Primary Power: Joys primary power allows her to copy the DNA patterns of other Evolveds and apply it to her own genetic code. This gives her access to powers that mirror the other Evolved. Joy must physically touch another Evolved in order to mimic the specific part of their DNA code that gives them their unique power. Joy's power only gives her the ability to use the powers of other evolveds. It does not automatically give her the control and skill that the Evolved she is mimicing already has obtained. Each power she mimics she must train from the very first step and up as if she were a new evolved all over again.

- Until Joy masters her power, she has a limit of being able to mimic the power of 2 Evolveds maximum. If she attempts to reconstruct her DNA to include a 3ed Evolveds power, Joy's DNA becomes unstable and it degrades at a accellerated rate. The end result is a complete physical break down of her body. In short, she turns into a puddle of fleshy goo. This does not result in death, rather Joy's DNA begins to reconstruct itself. It rebuilds her at a gradually increaseing speed until she once more reforms. If Joy suffers from this effect her body requires a full week before she can access her powers again.

- Joy is not capable of Mimicing all Evolved powers. There are some whose powers are genetically incompatible and will be rejected painfully. A forced reconstruction will result in Joy's DNA becoming unstable and breaking down as if she had taken on 3 different genetic codes. (This way she will not be able to Mimic powers that are un-allowed for players to possess)

* Level One: Joy's Power acts on it's own. Any Evolved that she comes in physical contact with she automatically Mimics. The duration of her Mimicing is only a few seconds.

* Level Two: Joy can consciously control her power, meaning she only Mimics another if she consciously focus's on it. The Duration of her Mimicing lengthens by a few more seconds as she is now more aware of her power.

* Level Three: Joy gains the ability to retain the power of another evolved based on her 'familarity' with the DNA. She will be able to retain the power of a evolved she has mimiced many times for a longer duration. She will be able to retain the power of a Evolved she has mimiced only a few times for a very short period of time. The maximum time she may retain a power is 24 hrs.

* Level Four: Familarity is still key in retaining the power of another Evolved. Joy is able to retain the power of very familar DNA nearly indefinatly. DNA that she is common with has a maximum limit of 1 month and DNA she is still unfamlilar with is limited to only 1 week. (To be considered Familar Joy must have used a specific DNA type at level 3 at least 100 times. Common must be used at level 3 at least 50 times. Unfamilar DNA is any one that has been used at least 20 times at level 3.

* Level Five: At this point Joy has mastered her ability. Level 4 still applies in reguards to retaining Mimiced powers. However she is capable of taking on a third power at Level 3

Revelation: The emergance of Joy's power occured during a vist to Lesley's home. Ace had taken Joy there in order to provide her with a demonstration of what sort of effect his ability had on other evolved's. Joy was both eager and depressed about the pending demonstration, as she felt a small amount of envy for her brother. Yet at the same time she was excited for him too, as Ace seemed quite pleased with himself, and Joy has a tendency to echo the feelings of her brother. Lesley, Sir Aquifer, greeted the children and was very gracious concerning the request of a demonstration.

Joy quickly lost herself in the wonder of Sir Aquifer's abilities. She was amazed at the detail and skill the elder evolveds possessed, and was more then charmed by the aqua lilly's he produced. Joy's excitement only grew when she suddenly realized just who it was that she and Ace were with. Joy had only known Sir Aquifer by his hero name and had never realized he actually had a normal name like everyone else.

In her excitement Joy touched Lesley briefly. Just a small brush that was hardly even noticeable. That brush though had a seemingly ill effect on Joy as she expierenced a bout of vertigo. Uncontrolled, unexpected, unexpierenced. Joy suffered a dizzy spell that nearly had her on the verge of a black out. With Sir Aquifer's aid she was quickly taken to a place she could rest. It was the older gentlemans opinion that Joy might have had expierenced some sort of manifestation, though he was not quite certain what it could be. Ace's excitement over his sister being a evolved quelled any worried on Joy's part for the time being. It was surrmised, at the time, that Joy's powers may be akin to Ace's own. As siblings it made sense that this was a possibility. However nothing was determined and Joy's vertigo seemed to pass quickly enough after a period of rest. The only other person whom was informed of th event was Joy's father, Jim Edwards. Concern for Joy's well being was first and foremost in Jim's conversation, and it was only with the assurance of Lesley that Jim was able to calm himself.

Solo- Joy & Raven

"So how's the piercing?" Raven's voice sounded concerned enough to Joy over the phone.

Joy was currently laying on her bed. Sprawled out on her back with a frilly white pillow propping her head up. One of Joy's arms was curled under that pillow, the other was bent upwards so she could hold her brothers 'girlified' phone to her ear. A CD that she had scavanged from her brothers room played on her metallic pink CD player to give her some cover noise for the conversation she was having.

"Oh, it's fine. The pain isn't nearly as bad as the first day. I think it's healing up pretty quickly actually. I've been following the cleaning directions very carefully." Joy informed Raven.

On the other line Raven was shuffeling through her room on her knees. She was attemopting to clean her room. Attempting being the operative word. So far she had only managed to stir up enough dust to kill a asmathitc.

"So your parents don't have a clue? How are you getting out of doing those gymnastics classes of yours?" Raven asked as she unfolded a sheet of paper with one hand. Her eyes trailed over the messily written words before crumpling it into a ball and tossing it towards the garbage can she had dragged into her room.

"Oh. I just told mom I have cramps. Mom understands cramps. I don't have to do any chores or go to my classes for now. Of course, Gymnastics is only twice a week so it is no big deal." Joy's lips quirked slightly as she continued. "Mom even bought a quart of chocolate ice cream just for me. I'll share it with Ace while she's at work though."

Raven's chuckle sounded light hearted to Joy over the phone. "Cramps? You lieing to your folks now Joy? Seems my wicked plans are bareing fruit! Muwahaahaa. What next? Shall we steal candy from babies tomorrow?"

Joy responded with a giggle. "Oh stop it! It's not like it will hurt anyone if I lay here a few days. I'm on vacation after all, and I'm sure Ace will like not having to baby sit me."

"Yeah but do you like not being baby sat?" Raven teased Joy as she crouched down to peer under her bed. Raven's nose wrinkled at the wall of clothing that seemed to have bricked itself in place under the boxspring. Cringing she reached under with one hand and began to haul stuff out.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Just what I said. Do you have any idea how often you bring your brother up in conversation? Your like...a walking advertisement to the greatness of Ace." Joy was not certain but Raven's voice had changed just a little bit. It had that odd edge to it that Raven sometimes got when discussing the 'traits of Joy'.

"Well...he is my big brother." Joy uncomfortably explained. " And I guess I look up to him a lot."

"Girl. I have heard of Daddies Girls and Mommas Boys. But I have never heard of Brothers Girls. I swear. You need to stop tagging him and start thinking more about yourself."

It was easier for Joy to frown when alone in her room, as it also was for her to get a little agitated. There was no one to see after all, and that normally made a person a bit braver.

"I don't 'tag'."

"Yes. Yes Joy you do. Whever we hang out you mention Ace at least once an hour, you are so tagging. Your like in love with your brother or something."

"I am not! That is so gross! I can't believe you would say---"

Raven's cackling laughter on the other end of the line cut Joy off. She shifted slightly, uncomfortably, on her bed until she was in a sitting position. Joy's features were pinched with a frustrated confusion.

"What is so funny Raven?"

"You! You are way easy to push sometimes Joy. Seriously."

"Well it wasn't funny."

"Yes it was. It was funny that you'd get all up in arms about something stupid like that. You love your brother, but don't love your brother. I get it, really. But I still think your way too wrapped up in your family. You need to come spend the weekend with me."

"Raven...I would die if I tried to spend the night in your room. Something would rise up out of the corner and devoure me as we slept." Now it was Joy's turn to grin as she heard the affronted sounds made by Raven.

"Hey. I'm working on it. I still don't think it's fair."

"What isn't fair? You really do need to clean your room. I can't imagin how you manage to find anything in there."

"Yeah, but dropping it on me like out of no-where? They could at least have given me a few days to work on it rather then telling me I couldn't leave the house till it was done." Raven muttered and picked up some dirty cloths. Giving them a small shake she listened as some loose change fell to the floor. Amid the coins something agonizingly pink sparkled out of place amid the dark colors of Raven's cloths.

Rolling her eyes Joy admonished her friend. "Raven, they caught you with cigaretts in your jacket. I think you got off pretty easy with just having to clean your room"

"Yeah...yeah I guess your right...hey Joy. I found that butterfly hair pin you thought you lost in gym." Raven spoke as she pluched the pink thing from the pile. She smiled slightly as she heard the expected exclamation of her friend on the phone.

"Really? Thats great!" Joy shifted on her bed and rose as the CD played out it's final lyrics. Crossing over to it Joy popped the 'replay' button.

"So how about it?" Raven tucked the butterfly into her pants pocket and resumed working on her room. "You can come over tomorrow and find out what color my floor is."

Joy hesitated as she considered Raven's request. It wouldn't be so bad hanging out with Raven for the day. Though she worried about what Ace would think...well...it was only for a day...

"Okay fine. I'll come over tomorrow and we can hang out a bit. But I don't think I should ask about spending the night yet."

"Still afraid to let me meet your parent's aren't you?" Raven's voice on the phone had that odd edge again. Joy was not certain if the girl was offended or amused.

"No no...it's just...well..."

"Naw, it's fine. You don't have to explain. I'll see you tomorrow."

Joy heard the abrupt click of Raven's phone hanging up. She pulled the cell phone from her ear and looked at the little flashing 75 min 22 sec on the phone. She had just spent over a hour chatting with Raven. It was wrong of her to try and keep her parents from meeting Raven. Yet she was worried that her parents wouldn't like...no..she knew her parents wouldn't like Raven. If Ace reacted the way he had, she was certain her father and mother would have the same response. She didn't want them forbidding her to see Raven. So if they did not know her, they couldn't tell Joy not to see her...it was a uneasy means to keeping her friend. Joy just hoped that Raven wouldn't feel too upset over it...

Solo- Joy and Raven
2804 Words

Joy did NOT know how she had let Raven talk her into this. The two girls had taken the bus to the mall. Joy had told her mother that she was going to go and spend some time with a friend from school. Alice, trusting her daughter, had not asked for too many details. Just a phone number, name, and address of the friend Joy was going to see. Raven lived close enough for Joy to bike her way over to the girls house. It was only a 45 minute ride after all. Joy had not wanted to ask Ace for a ride just in case he got all gloomy on her.

Raven had greeted Joy with a Coke and a surprised look when Joy explained she had ridden her bike over to her house. Joy in turn had been surprised when she entered Raven's room to find that her friend had indeed cleaned the place up to a acceptable standard. Raven's room had wood flooring.

After a hour though Raven declared that she was going 'crazy' stuck in the house and asked if Joy had any cash. Of course she did, Joy carefully monitored her allowance useage so she always tended to have a bit left over each week. Raven had declared in her usual brash fashion that money was not meant to be cloistered away in a wallet, it was meant to be spent on frivolus things like ice cream sundaes and new video games.

And so it was that Raven had goaded Joy into calling for a cab and riding over to the mall. Joy supposed it was no big deal really. There was no law stating she had to stay at Raven's house all day. Joy liked the mall too.

"So I say we get you a make over! Let's hit the salon." Raven raised her voice a little to be heard over the din of the mall. The two girls had decided to share a sundae as Joy didn't want to eat a full one on her own. So the icecream dish was held by Joy as the two meandered through the throng taking turns spooning out globs of slowly melting goo into their mouths.

"Mmmm..no. I like my hair the way it is." Joy declined with a small shake of her head. She suspected that the make over Raven had in mind included lots of cutting and dying. Raven was not deterred with her suggestion being turned down, rather she turned Joy's attention to a nearby botique.

"Let's get you a new outfit!" Joy's eyes flickered over the clothing depicted in the window. Leather... netting.... metal....

"I..don't think...that is much my taste Raven." Joy slowly spoke. A small 'humph' sound came from Raven, and Joy turned her head to look at her friend.

Raven had taken a new scoop of ice cream onto her spoon and waited for Joy to turn her head back towards her. With a wicked little slash of a smile, Raven dabbed the cold dessert across Joy's cheek, resulting in Joy yelping in surprise. Joy jumped, and the sundae toppled backwards from her hand. Raven's loud laughter momentarily reminded Joy of her choosen namesake.

"Agh! Raven! Look at what you made me do! I've got icecream and chocolate on my shirt!" Joy pulled her sullied white shirt away from her chest as she shot Raven as scathing a look as she could.

"Lighten up Joy! Ha ha! You have to buy a new shirt now! C'mmon!" Raven thrust a napkin from her pocket onto Joy's stained shirt, then grabbed her by the upper arm to drag her into the botique.

"Ah! You planned this!" Joy accused Raven as she wiped the icecream from her shirt and crumpled it up. "Raven what about the icecream dish? We can't just leave it---"

"Ah, they got janitors to clean up messes like that. Oooh! How about this one? It's cute like you." Raven cut Joy off as she began to browse a circular rack of shirts. Joy reluculantly allowed Raven to deter her from going back to clean up their mess and turned her attention to the shirt.

"Ugh...no." Joy immediatly responded. "I am not wearing that."

"Why not?" Raven's voice was far more innocent then the text on the shirt. She flipped it about and laid it across her own chest to 'model' the shirt to Joy.

"Because I am not wearing a shirt that says 'Highest Bidder Wins This'. That is utterly demeaning."

"Well I think it's cute. Fine though...what about this one?" Raven put the shirt back and pulled out another shirt. Her brows wiggled teaseingly as she flipped it to show Joy a sparkling red cherry.

"Oh...well that's not so bad." Joy mused until Raven began to laugh again. "What? What is it?" Joy did not get the meaning behind the shirt, though Raven, for all her teaseing, had the decency to put the shirt back.

"Maybe nothing from this rack. Let's try another..."

Joy and Ravens shirt hunting continued for a good hour. A few of the shirts Joy selected became objects of scoffing and ridicule for Raven. Joy on the other hand staunchly refused to wear anything that Raven selected half the time.

"You won't wear anything with too low a V neck. You won't wear anything that has words on it--"

"It's -tacky- Raven." Joy protested.

"The fact you even use the word Tacky scares me." Raven countered from across a table of folded shirts.

Joy rolled her eyes and flipped her fingers through a different rack. "Oh hey...I really like this one..."

Raven looked up as Joy lifted a shirt and held it before her. Her features wrinkled at first as she noted that it was the white Joy typically wore. However, Joy seemed rather pleased with her selection.

"Look, isn't the kitty so cute?" Joy gushed while Raven let her eyes sweep over the poofy white cat with it's wide blue eyes. Stamped across the shoulder was a blue and white logo with a wing on it.

"What is Gaiaonline?" Raven asked with a curious look.

"I think it is a online chatsite. I'll have to check it out sometime. Isn't the kitty the most adoreable thing?" Joy had made up her mind to purchase the shirt reguardless of whether Raven approved or not.

Raven lingered by the shirts and wandered her way over to a selection of novelty pieces of jewelry while Joy went and purchased the shirt. She soon returned to Raven while holding a small white plastic bag.

"Lets head to the restroom so I can change out of this. Then maybe we can check out the used game store for a new game?" Joy suggested. Raven nodded her head and together the two girls exited the botique.

Raven waited outside the bathroom stall while Joy changed shirts. Her arms folded as she stared vacantly up at the ceiling.

"Hey Joy. Your brother dating anyone?" Raven casually questioned.

"Hmmm, no I don't think so." Joy replied as she folded her ice cream dabbed shirt up and slipped it into the bag her new shirt had come in. "Why?"

"Eh, just curious is all." Raven's tone of voice was forcibly casual. Joy was able to pick up on it, and as she pulled her new shirt on she wondered if she ought to follow through with the most obvious comment.

"Course he does go to a different school then me. So he might have someone he's interested in there. I sort of hedge in on his life more then enough as it is. I try to give him some privacy so he won't get upset about being a baby sitter or something." Joy slipped the latch out of it's locked position and tugged the door backwards.

Raven had a shrug already prepared for Joy, so she assumed that this was a topic that ought to be forgotten for now. Maybe if they had a sleepover or something then she could get a bit more out of Raven. But seriously...she doubted Raven had a chance at all of even getting a car ride alone with Ace.

"Let's check out the video games next, then hit the food court. I really am craving a orange smoothie." Joy flipped her bag around her wrist and flicked her fingers over her cute kitty shirt.

"You are a smoothie Joy." Raven's lips and eyes were alight with her usual spark, so Joy knew there would be no storm coming anytime too soon from her moody friend.

"If I am a smoothie, then you must be.... A marshmallow cookie." Joy decided after a moment of thought.

"What!? marshmallow cookie!? Are you saying I'm fat?" Raven jerked her elbow into Joy's side as the two girls walked through the mall's crowded corridores once again. Together they giggled, and Joy lightly tapped Raven back with her own elbow.

"No! But I've seen all those wrappers in your room. There are enough cookie wrappers to wall paper your room with!" she teased Raven.

"Okay, okay, you got a point there. But they are called Moon Pies. At least get that part right." Raven's smile had not faltered once. If anything it had grown wider as they walked.

"Ugh. They look more like wax pies if you ask me." Joy commented, though Raven's attention drifted immediatly once they entered the game store. The two girls parted and wandered on their own. Each looking at the different games on the shelves. Joy was only partly interested in the game shopping, as she thought maybe she'd fijnd a game that her brother might enjoy. Though...she wasn't certain...a RPG? Or a fighting game? or a army game?

A game featuring her brothers hero, Flashcharge, caught her eye for a minute. It would seem like a obvious win in choices. However, since it did have something to do with Flashcharge, Joy was pretty certain he probably already had it...maybe she should get one of those online games? Then she could maybe get her brother to play it with her?

Joy's eventual descion was not to buy anything at all. She just didn't want to waste the money purchasing something she or her brother would not enjoy. She was browsing some books alone in a aisle Raven came up and stood beside her. Without looking directly at her, Raven set a CD on a lower shelf by Joy.

"Joy....put that in your bag." Raven spoke in a hushed voice as she picked up a book and flipped through it.

"What?" Joy murmured back. Her green eyes blinked at Raven in minor surprise.

"Put it in your bag. I think the clerks been watching me. I'll see you out by the fountain." Raven murmured again softly before putting the book down. She meandered towards the enterance, then paused to look at a display with false interest.

Joy looked down at the CD on the shelf. She lowered the book she had been holding to cover over the CD as thoughts raced through her head.

Joy wasn't a fool, she knew Raven had just asked her to help her shop lift. Which of course was utterly wrong. Joy didn't even know what the game was, or how much it cost. Was Raven taking it because she didn't have the cash for it? For a thrill? Raven wasn't even the one taking it at this point. She was asking Joy to do it.

Joy could feel the CD under the book when she slipped her hand beneath it. It would be quite easy to slip it into her bag and just walk out the doors. It was only about seven steps away and Raven was right. The clerk was watching her, though he was doing a poor job of hiding the fact.

Ace would just kill her if she took it. And Joy slowly realized that this was something that Ace had probably been afraid of. Maybe not this exact same thing, but something close to it. Joy's hesitation had nothing to do with a warring of conscious verses the desire to remain friends with Raven. She hesitated because this was something she honestly had never thought she'd have to deal with. You hear about peer pressure and the temptation to do what was 'cool' to impress others. Joy simply had never thought it would one day happen to her.

Joy lifted the book and replaced it on the shelf. Picking the CD up, she placed that on the top shelf in open sight. Then Joy turned and exited the store. Just as Raven had said, she was hanging out near the fountain by a potted plam tree. She seemed to be calm, but Joy thought perhaps there was some anxiety exhibted in the way Raven rubbed her thumb over one of her rings.

"Joy! Great!" Raven grinned as Joy sat down next to her.

"No." Joy countered Raven. "Not great."

The edge in Joy's voice surprised both herself and Raven. The next few seconds ticked by silently as Raven eyed Joy, and Joy refused to meet Raven's eyes.

"What you just asked me to do...that was wrong Raven. I can't believe you would ask me that." She wasn't going to say aloud that it was. The last thing Joy wanted was someone overhearding them speaking of something like this.

"Oh come on Joy." Raven's voice was light, her shoiulders and Joy assumed her eyes, rolled in a exsaperated sigh. "It's not like it was going to hurt anybody."

Joy turned to finally look at Raven, and raven gave a slight start at the expression on Joy's face. A unusual fierce look was reflected in Joy's green eyes, and her mouth was set in a ver determined line.

"If you honestly believe that, then your stupid Raven. It would have hurt me at the very least. What you did was put me in a situation that was wrong. It is immoral. It is illegale. Reguardless of how little it might have cost the company. You were asking me to lower myself with such a...a...demeaning act of selfishness!" Joy fought to keep her voice under control. She had never wanted to shout so badly at someone before. Raven seemed put out by both the tone and the weight of Joy's words.

"Look...Joy...I'm sorry..." Raven started slowly, but Joy cut in.

"Don't apologize unless you actually mean it Raven. Don't tell me your sorry unless you really are. I don't want you to say things just to calm me down and smooth over this whole thing. If you really are sorry you won't ever -ever- do that again. Not to me, and not by yourself."

Joy had managed to quickly calm herself down. She no longer felt like shouting anymore. After getting out her angry words, and making Raven listen to them, Joy felt much better. Raven however looked as if she might be sick. Her eyes had small wrinkles in the corners and her lips were turned down into a tight unhappy frown.

"I mean it... I am sorry Joy. I just...I figured it was nothing. The shop wouldn't really take a hit from it. It was only one CD. I didn't think... I didn't think that it would bother you this much." Raven's words felt rather lame to herself as she spoke them, but by the softening of the look in Joy's eyes she knew her friend was not so angry anymore.

"It does bother me, and it will keep bothering me if I feel that your still doing stuff like that. Raven... I can't be your friend if you are going to keep doing stuff like that. I won't be your friend." For a moment Joy was afraid that her words were too harsh. Perhaps they were too demanding or something like that. What if she forced Raven away from her because of her own personal demand? Joy's fear was quickly abated, as Raven would give her head a slight jerk.

"All right...I'll do it your way. I won't take anything I haven't paid for. Promise..." Raven's voice had a weird note to it, but Joy decided not to press. The fact that Raven had agreed at all without a fight made her feel incredibly relieved.

"Okay then...we were going to get smoothies next right? I'll pay though, it'll be my treat. Maybe we can hit another game store before heading home and we can find a game to play together." Joy knew she was just trying to butter Raven up now. Just a little spoiling of her friend to quickly erase this uncomforatble feeling between them. Raven's head nodded and a wry grin pulled at her lips.

"What do you mean your treat? I was gunna mooch off you anyways."
