"Where my Eri used to be, there were bad people. They wanted her back, but she fought, so they took me. She came with friends and got me back, and they can't come for us anymore." Shammi nodded. Ah, they had been bad people.
"Shammi is a.... Magic mishap." Or something like that. "A spell gone wrong, they said. But, Shammi has her grabby tail, and her grabby hands and claws, and her funny eyes, and can make her skin change colors. Not like in the movies, though. I can't blend into the CD racks. But I can be other colors that are pretty."

Aaah. So that was what had happened. Beatz understood where Shammi was coming from, especially with the bad people thing. It wasn't necessarily that she thought the guild Bantu was running was wrong, but it was definitely not the best place to find high-class people with good morals. A den for thieves always had its riff-raff and bad people. Still, Bantu did encourage her guild members to try and stay on the good side of the law in all regards but stealing.
"A magical mishap? Oooh, so you mean like from a wizard or a witch?" She had hear of such people, but she had never actually met one. This was getting interesting. "Sounds like you have lots of abilities! Very nice! I'm still waiting to see what this little one can do when he gets older."

"I think so. He made a mistake, and I was made, and then I went to a place that was dark. And then Eri came, and they gave me to her. But I was little, so I don't remember what exactly happened." Shammi smiled, tongue snaking slightly out of her mouth. Looks like it was chameleon like as well.
"Well, Fuzzy will probably do ratty things, like Shammi does lizard things. Maybe running fast and seeking into tight spots? That's what Ratties that Shammi has seen has done."

"Sounds almost like a fairy tale to me," Beatz replied with a small smile. Born in a dark place and then rescued by her guardian. Sure there was some kidnapping and other not so nice events in the mix there, but that was very fairy tale-like too. The kid looked like she had a good life.
"Ratty things... that would make sense. And he could probably fit into small spaces, seeing as he is quite small himself." A small "cuckoo" noise came from inside her pocket, and Beatz reached in hastily to pull out her clock. "Oh shoot, we're going to be late getting home. Well, it was very nice meeting you Shammi. I hope that we can meet again when Fuzzy here is a little older and can actually speak up for himself."
Kibarango gave a small giggle and a peep, as though that were conversation enough. Beatz gave the child a small wave, before setting off in the direction of the counter. She had to buy her CDs and make it back home before Bantu started sending the ermines out to find her. That woman was a bit too paranoid about her baby.

"Bye, Ratbaby! Bye Beatz!" Shammi called. Ziggy's head popped back up out of her overalls. "ZiggyDog, you need to learn how to be polite!"
Ziggydog growled.
