I dunno if we are getting through to this dude, has his mind pretty set on a line6. Maybe after a few years then he will realize tubes are the only way to go.
A few years...*shudders at the thought* It seems like you're right.

IF you get the Spider, DO NOT buy pick-ups. Hell, buy a BIGGER Spider. Just know you're buying a bigger starter amp, same goes for the Marshall. Marshall MG's blow chunks, hell, I don't even use mine for practice anymore, I use it as a drink-holder.

There's a reason i'm not going for tubes... all the one's i've seen are a bit out of my price range ($600+ are the one's I see... those are the cheapest i've seen). My price range is a bit below $400... Maybe not even that much.
That's why a lot of us are telling you not to get the pickups at the moment. If 400 is all you have to spend at the moment on both, then if you get good pickups your 400 will be cut in half, especially if you are not planning on installing them yourself. But if you have the budget for 400 + money for pickups, then you can get something pretty decent.

A rule that is pretty good to follow, is that if you are getting an amp that has buttons like metal, insane, crunch on it for different types of distortion, then you are pretty much getting a starter amp. They are pretty much telling you that you are not creative enough to create your own sound. Also these amps have a lot of computer stuff in them, and if you think about it what is the life span of a normal computer, only a couple of years. I think my JCM combo is like close to 10 yrs old and still works great.

Just trying to keep you from doing something you may regret in the future when you do actually want something better.
