Xenostrate looked irked. Not upset, just irked. He really didn't like his name, and now she was laughing at it like the youth did. Fine.

It helped for the young and uneducated, or just the ones that had never heard the names before. However, too many knew exactly the gender to place with his name and went bawling in laughter over the subject.

Namely Xenophon.

Xenodoros look slightly put off with the question. He gave a look to his feet, perhaps they would give him the answer. The flower flopped lightly over his teeth and he switched to the pretty petals at the end.

"Well, I don't know. Mother never taught as what to do with flowers." Xenophon had taught him how to pick them to give them to people. Apparently most mares enjoyed such things.

Xenostrate rolled his eyes. "It's a symbol more than anything. Some people put in their hair, or store it somewhere safe. Others have been known to refuse a flower entirely." It really depended on the upbringing and what the flower meant. In this particular case, Xenostrate didn't thinking that Doros would mind if she ate it, so long as she took it.

The red-coated mare lent towards the flower and sniffed at it. Well, it was a nice flower and it was nice of the Bae to offer it to her. She wasn’t quite sure of how she was supposed to take it from him, but since he didn’t really seem to know how the whole thing went it probably didn’t matter too much. Shrugging internally, the gold-eyed crossbreed lent forward and, taking the flower from the stallion who held it with her teeth, worked the stem in between two feathers of her left wing.

“There,” she giggled, raising the wing a little so as to inspect it better, “isn’t that pretty?” The swirling of colour had extended from the flower to the feathers it touched. It didn’t hurt though, just tingled faintly and Annabelle wasn’t stepping in to warn her so it was probably alright. Briefly, the tall Nequus considered asking about why the colours swirled as they did but she checked herself a moment before opening her mouth; it was probably common knowledge and she didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of these two by asking a stupid question.

“Thank you,” she said after a moment, “I shall wear it as long as it looks pretty, and when it starts wilting I shall eat it because throwing it away would be a shame.”

Xenodoros grinned happily when she took the flower and placed it on her wing. It looked very pretty there, purple and soft. It matched her deep red hue very well.

He nodded at her question, because he'd just been thinking the same thing himself. Xenostrate, however, seemed to have no opinion on the matter. To him, it was a flower. The trees were trees, Nequus were Nequus. There was nothing particularily special about any of them. Annoying perhaps, but not special.

This young mare had to have been very young indeed. The way she phrased things, and the types of questions she asked. However, she had said she'd lived without parents, and that would make anyone a trifle bit off. She knew her manners well enough.

"Did you have an aunt or uncle to take care of you?" Xenostrate asked quizically. He couldn't believe he didn't walk over the subject before. Growing up with to parents left him confused to events that would occur without it.

Why would he think she had an uncle? That was a bit of an odd assumption to make... but he didn’t seem to mean anything bad by it so it was probably alright. Salomé settled her wings more comfortably against her flanks and gave a shake of his head. “No, no I had no uncle nor aunt nor grandsire or dam. It was just me by myself; I don’t know where my parents went to or why but they weren’t there when I hatched.” Privately, she thought she knew what had happened. It was obvious really; They had found out somehow that she, Salomé, would be special and so they’d taken her parents away or killed them in the hopes that her fruit would wither and die. She hadn’t though, she’d survived Them and she would continue to do so as long as she had Anna’s warnings. Anna would keep her safe, that was what friends were for, right?

Right. I wouldn’t tell them what we know though if I were you. They might know some of Them and get you into trouble on purpose or by mistake or they might just end up getting hurt for knowing about it. We don’t want that, do we?

No, no they didn’t want that. She didn’t that was, she and Anna didn’t want the nice Bae to be hurt, or to accidentally get them hurt. “So,” the red coated mare gave the pair of stallions a smile, “what’s it like having parents? I never met anyone who’d tell me before, people don’t like to talk to me usually because of my mixed blood, or maybe because I’m not even a normal mixed blood, not sure which one it really is.” Either way it didn’t matter; she was hated for being some kind of crossblood or for her magic. People always got so jealous of her magic; they tried to pretend it wasn’t there the daft things.

Xenostrate had to physically think.

There were parts of having them he hated, but he was sure somewhere there was something good about it. When he was younger he enjoyed having them, but not now. Now he was struggling to get away.

"I was nice, when I was young. There was always a helping hoof when I stumbled or fell." He remembered the comforting chuckles of his mother, and the warm roll of the eyes from his father. They were supportive, kind, and understanding to a large degree. But as he got older, "Its a power struggle now. Its hard to make decisions without their conscience resting on your head."

The guilt still rides with you, no matter how free you think you are. "You simply can't escape parents," he finished, frowning at the thought.

"Or siblings!" Xenodoros added with a bright smile. He was right, of course.

"Xenophon, anyway," Xenostrate answered him.

Well, it didn’t sound as though she was missing that much anyway; she wasn’t a foal anymore so the good but about having parents was over and gone already. Besides, she’d had Anna so she’d done alright really now hadn’t she? Anna kept her safe.

Xenophon.“That’s the one of you who left, yes?” the gold-maned mare quizzed with a tilt of her head, remembering again his reaction to her. He had issues. Issues. Issues to do with her. that was unsettling, she hadn’t thought about it until now. As soon as he’d taken her in, he’d left as soon as he had been able. There was something not right in that, something worrying. Just because his brothers were nice didn’t mean he was. Perhaps he had real sight just as she did and had seen her magic and run off to tell somebody. To tell Them? It was possible, quite possible and it made her twitchy.

Twitching her tails somewhat, Salomé turned her golden gaze in the direction that the third brother had gone in. Xenophon knew something, and he might return any time now. Perhaps it would be wise to move on soon, just in case he came back soon...

"Yes," Xenostrate answered her simply. That was the one who had left.

"Xenophon is kind," Xenodoros commented. "He's always teaching me things, but he went away for a while with someone and he came back very opinionated."

Xenostrate was suprised at the largeness of Xenodoros' words, but then realized he'd said the exact same thing upon the return of Ophon. The less wise of the two of them sure had a brain for storing things. It was, of course, simply a robotic regurgitation of information, but it made him sound smart. The public didn't know the difference.

"I'd call him an open person, with issues." Xenostrate was very much the same, though he hid hid issues.

Xenodoros had no opinions at all, unless it regarded the beauty of the world around him. The simplicity of it all, perhaps. To be that simple. . .

"I wouldn't worry about him. He'll be alright in a few days," Xenodoros commented, looking at the expression Salome had plastered to her face. "And Forget all about you."

The gold-eyed mare nodded slowly. “That’s good then.” Good that he’d forget. She just hoped he forgot before he did any harm. She should leave. It would not be polite. The grass was blue. The sky was green. She ought to get somewhere without grass and a bit hidden from the sky until matters resolved themselves.

Blinking and tossing her head, the crossbreed peered about. Off to her right, it looked as though the was a rocky something in the middle distance. It would have to do, she supposed. But how to leave?

Tell them you have to come and meet me, tell them you’re already late and then hurry. You don’t want to stand on the blue grass too long or you’ll go blue too and sink into it.

Salomé gulped and avoided looking at her hooves. Anna would have said if she was staining already. “Umm... well it was nice to talk to you both, but I have to go now. My friend, I’m meeting her and I’m late... So I should go now. Maybe I’ll see you both again sometime.” If she did, she hoped the third of them wouldn’t be about. She didn’t want him to remember her. He had ‘Issues’.

Xenostrate simply nodded.

"Perhaps," he answered.

Xenodoros hoped they did, Strate didn't care, and Xenophon shared Salome's upset in seeing her again.

"Goodbye Salome!" Xenodoros called, seeing her off with a broad grin. "Enjoy the flower!"

"Time to go, Doros," Xenostrate mumbled, and set off in the opposite direction.

The curve-horned mare watched them go for a few moments before wheeling about and taking off at a gallop, beating her strong wings frantically against the air. Within a few strides, she was riding up and away from the wyrd grass and the panicked racing of her heart slowed. She hadn’t gone blue and sunk in, thank all Gods for Anna’s warnings. Smiling fondly and wondering how she would ever have survived without her friend, Salomé glided on towards the rocky ground ahead and the safety that would come with it. Anna would no doubt be awaiting her there and they could have a doze. Perhaps they’d even see the Sand Nequus again. She would like that very much indeed.
