Dahak smiled and nodded to the mare’s words. “I’m sure you would be a good teacher, thus far you seem like the kind patient sort and many foals are less aware of rank than adults are so the sucking up problem might not be so bad.” Some of them of course were savvy to such things from a very early age. He had been for one, and the small crowd of colts and fillies that had wanted to befriend himself and his siblings when they discovered their lineage had presumably been aware... Or perhaps not, perhaps they had been told by their parents that they should be friends with him and his and had come to realize why themselves over time. Still, either way foals were less obsessed with rank than adults, and that sounded like something the princess would be glad of.

“I don’t know very much about my art yet,” the stallion went on after a moment, pleased to find that he could speak openly of what he meant and be thought to be speaking of something different. “Still, we must all start somewhere and practice, as they say, makes perfect. I’ve had a little theoretical instruction now, so with a bit of work I’m sure I shall be able to achieve my aims soon.” Ha, and then he would get to tell everyone! He really was getting exited about that. He couldn’t wait to the the look on his sister’s face especially. He just hoped his mother didn’t find a use for him down in her battles. He would be happy to go about healing soldiers afterwards but he had not interest in braving all those lashing hooves to put a warrior back in action.

She grinned at the tri-colored stallion, ruffling her feathered wings a bit and shifting her weight so she'd be more comfortable. "Thank you, Dahak," she said with a bob of her head, smiling warmly. Whether it was meant to be one or not, the brindled mare took his first statement as a compliment. Real ones were a bit hard to come by, she'd found, as many of the ones who clung to her flooded her with meaningless ones. She listened to his explanations, nodding politely with a smile. "Yes, I've found that, too. I can say for certain that not all foals know much of rank, because as a foal I hadn't a clue," she said with a grin and an amused giggle. She hadn't known why she or her siblings were referred to as little princes and princesses until they had returned to the herd.

"Oh, yes," Lucina smiled warmly, stretching a wing absent-mindedly to relieve a bit of the tension that had built up in it. "I'm sure that, with a little practice, you'll do absolutely wonderfully. You've a good head on your shoulders, I must say, and a little help from someone else -- whoever gave you theoretical instruction, as it were -- will do wonders, I'm sure."

Dahak smiled back and nodded. Yes, he did have a good head on his shoulders and talent and a good teacher. He had no doubts in himself in this respect, not a one. It would take some kind to natural disaster to stop him now, and even that wouldn’t work unless it killed him before he could magic himself healed. He was sure he’d be able to do it again in a pinch as he had in that blasted river. There was perhaps something about extreme stress that had helped him there, he’d have to bring it up with Mordre next he went to see the old stallion.

“Well, good, dealing with foals will be a refreshing break for you I’m sure.” He could just imagine the fights between parents to get their foals into her classes. It would be a sight worth watching for sure, and perhaps one that would require his special skills in its aftermath. “I suggest,” he went on after a moment with a lopsided smile, “that you get somebody very large to preside over assignments to your classes. The foals might not be aware of who you are, but their parents certainly will be.”

"I certainly hope so," the brindled mare mused, shifting onto her side before extending her other wing, stretching it to dispatch the stiffness in it. She'd have to go for a good flight at some point soon, she decided. It had much too long since her last, and she very much enjoyed the habit. She ruffled her wings again before folding both comfortably against her flanks, and she stared at the crystal clear water a bit before offering Dahak a grin. It had taken her but a moment to figure out what he meant, and the result was a light giggle. "I hadn't thought about that before, but now that you've brought it to my attention I'll have to see about it," she chuckled, shaking her slender head a bit. "I wouldn't want any arguments or fights to break out over who gets into my classes. Or, rather, the classes I hope to have," she added after a slight pause. She'd have to speak with mother about it.

However, the stiffness in both wings quickly returned, and she attempted to dispel it with a ruffling of her wings. Perhaps....

A broad grin formed on her face as she turned to Dahak, flicking her curly tail. "Say -- you wouldn't want to go for a flight with me, would you?" She certainly hoped so; he was such wonderful company, but she would certainly understand if he didn't want to. He probably had better things to do, at any rate, but it was always nice to ask.

Dahak smiled at the small mare and clambered gracefully back to his hooves, giving himself a shake. “I should be glad to,” he said with a nod, “it has been a while since I have taken the time to stretch my wings properly. Oh, and I am glad to have raised a useful point.” The brindled creature chuckled softly and shook his head. “I should hate to think of you getting mobbed by eager parents or somesuch. People can be so pushy when they think they smell power.” Perhaps it was cruel, no actually he knew it was, but he rather enjoyed toying with those weak and stupid enough to try to get ahead in life off another’s back.

The amusing thing was that they never seemed to get annoyed with him for his behavior; they didn’t care that he ignored them at times, all that seemed to matter were the times when he did not ignore them. Stupid, fat-headed laziness that was what it was, hoping that somebody would toss them a sweet fruit to eat rather than seeking out their own. Still, he supposed there had to be an underclass for society to continue to function properly. Certainly there were annoying little twerps, but they were also necessary little twerps. If everybody had the potential for rank there wasn’t really much point left in having it; the whole point of rank was that you were better than the people below you. Well, he thought of Mavasu, in general you were at any rate.

"Oh, wonderful!" She said with glee before she quickly and gracefully got to her hooves. She stretched her wings a bit and turned towards the entrance of the secluded area. Certainly Dahak would follow her into the air? Yes, of course; she was ahead of him, after all. That that assurance in mind, the pale brindled mare set off at a brisk trot as she extended her wings, then lengthened her strides before leaping into the air, allowing the winds to flow under her up-turned wings and carry her higher into the air. It was such a magnificent feeling, flight.

She turned her head and beat her wings once or twice as she half-circled, waiting for the tri-colored stallion to catch up fully before they could continue. Of course there wasn't much distance to catch up on, she'd just wanted them to fly together instead of her leading and him following. That was always so boring.

But that wasn't what they were going to do; no, they were going to fly around together and talk more, of course. The sun was shining, everyone was fine, and it was, so far, a brilliant day in her mind.

Dahak was right behind her and, once she had a little height, he too spread his wings and took to the air; he hadn’t wanted to risk colliding with her by following her up too closely. Now that they were aloft however he wasted no time in soaring to the princess’ side.

It was good to feel the wind under his wings again, to have his curling mane and tail tugged out behind him like pennants. For a long time now he had been so focused on improving his magic that he had forgotten to take moments just to live. Now that he was firmly on the way to being able to reveal himself to the herd however, it was easier to just relax for a while.

His time was coming, coming soon and taking time out to tread the air in pleasant company wasn’t going to delay it in the least. Smiling to himself, the blue-eyed Katilenuck changed the angle of his wings slightly and soared onward.

Today was a good day.
