Rebel Sheep as long as they're taught as theories, and don't lead the students to believe they're solid facts, then i think it's ok
if someone says "this happened, not this" then, that's just stupid
it's the kind of subject where you have to give students the options and let them derive for themselves which they think is the best, or whatever, or they can dismiss them both *Gasp* A Fellow THG Member. O:

Evolution is Science. That's the fact of the matter. Science must be taught in schools.
And then here's what pisses me off; they say that religion is science. It's NOT. D< Religion is what you believe in. You might not necessarily believe in science, but those are your beliefs. Public schools are required to teach science.
And then if we did teach Creationism, what about all of the other religions? We're in America, where most people believe in Political Correctness s**t, yes? So then Science becomes a religion class, because we would have to teach all of these religions. (That includes Satanism, too, because it's a religion as well. I just think it's creepy, but those are just my beliefs.) And that. Would. Make. Me. ******** MAD. D< Because I like science because it has some LOGIC to it. mad
And then it comes right back to, how 'bout instead of wasting all that time, why don't we just teach science? PROBLEM SOLVED. D< There are classes that people can take that study the religions of the world.
And see, I don't see why we need to be taught religion in schools in the first place. The people who want religion to be taught are usually going for Creationism because they're Christian, and usually try and go around and shove their beliefs down other people's throats. D< It's just insane. Makes me REALLY mad. Church and state are supposed to be kept seperate; if you want to be taught Creationism, go to a ******** private school if you want to so bad. D<
I don't care if I make you mad, these are GOOD reasons. People will go and learn about religions on their own if they want to.
And thankyou MoonTree. You're my hero. : D <33333333

MoonTree Yeah, the thing is, creationism comes from Christianity, which is a belief system. Evolution comes from science, which is like an anti-belief system: it requires proof and evidence for everything.
Now, am I not wrong in saying that, just as Christianity is a belief system, so is Islam, so is Hinduism, so is every single religion on the face of this planet.
In the interest of keeping religion and public education separate, either teach none or all of those beliefs. However, evolution is science, and as such, should be presented as part of the science curriculum.
Obviously we should learn about different faiths and beliefs, but not as science.
I kind of don't give a s**t if I offend anybody. This is something that pisses me off to no end. Sorry if I did, but yeah. It hits a goddamn gigantic nerve. same...
i read one of the articles on that website, and ********, they made it sound like "beleivers" and "non-beleivers" are against eachother! ******** to my side of the beleif? i'm for evolution. it fascinates me. we're doing pleaontology in Earth Science, and i love it. i love the idea of evolution ^~^

It shouldn't be taught period. We live in a country where there is a seperation fo church and state. I may be a Christian but I respect the the Establishment clause of the First Amendment. Evolution is a science and it is proven. What basis is their for Creationism. You can't say the bible because there are so many people who misinterpret it so much that you don't know what the truth is anymore...

i believe in both evolution and creationism. i once read a book called evolution, me, and other freaks of nature. there was a character in it that believed that both dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth at times that were close to one another, and those periods of time might've overlapped at some point, too. methinks that's a pretty reasonable theory.

Religion shouldn't be taught. It should be felt. Here in Finland we have (lutheran or orthodox) religion in school. Kids who don't belong to any religious group, or other than christian either study ethics or have those classes free and study home (like muslims at my old school). I really think that learning good moral and about social skills and things like that are more important than religion. Evolution is totally different because it's part of biology and science. I mean if you start to teach about any animal or even plants you'll run into it, because it's a HUGE part of nature. It happens all the time. I mean it's not 100% sure that there is any kind of goddess or god up there so why bother? I mean what if all that hard worshipping you do goes to waste? If there were no religions this world would be a better place. We would have more languages and different cultures. When mentioning this I'm talking about the explorations that turned into exploitation of land and the natives. I believe in evolution because unlike with religion, we have real proof that something happened. Fossils and such. Though, we have proof that evolution doesn't happen; like the right wing parties and other "true-blue conservatives".
 Darwin is my homeboy!

personally, i believe neither should be taught as fact in a school.
teachers should present the idea of evolution in a way that kids can choose whether or not to believe it.
also, i think that creationism as catholics/cristians see it should not be taught in school at all, unless it's for a religion class. teaching the views of one religion, but not others seems pretty discriminating to me.

I agree with all of that, an especially that last bit. At least in the school I went to they tried to teach all realigions. But the teachers sucked and got it wrong. stressed Now I will destroy him.

And what most people don't realize when they say all religions is that they're also saying Satanism. Then they all go around saying it isn't, but they're worshipping Satan, believing that he is a god, making it a religion. Then all of a sudden everybody gets quiet... -.-

satan is, esencially, the anti-god. so, if people begin to worship him, he becomes god, rather than remaining satan.
just thought i'd throw that in there.

Okay, well then it still is a religion, because you're still worshipping something, even though it is your ownself. And so if they were to teach all of these religions, there would be SO many religions to teach, and then you wouldn't even have all of the them taught.
