Sirius followed her lead and plopped down on the sofa, looking at the hearth. After a few moments, he let go of her hand and put his arm around her shoulders.

Mar fought a shiver of happiness, and instead looked up at him, contemplating doing something that would be spontaneous and appropriate. So, she stretched her neck as far as it would and quickly pecked a kiss onto the side of his nose, before lowering her head onto his shoulder.

Sirius let his eyelids drop, enjoying the full effect of one simple gesture. The place where she had kissed him stung in a way - a pleasant way, if that made sense. Had his arm not been wrapped around Marketa, he would have tentatively reached up and touched the spot, trying to decide whether or not it was real.
He opened his eyes and smiled. With a satisfied sigh, he put his head on top of hers and buried his nose in her hair. Had this been his own common room, he would have felt comfortable enough to fall asleep there.

This was, however, Marketa's Common Room, and she was perfectly comfortable here, especially with Sirius's arm around her. Enveloped by the warmth of the roaring fire in front of her, and Sirius's warmth all around her, her previous weariness that had been interrupted by adrenaline came rushing back. She felt herself start drifting off, nuzzling into Sirius's shoulder and feeling more secure than she ever had before at Hogwarts.

Sirius sighed contentedly and stretched out his impossibly long legs, letting his feet kick of his trainers. He felt Marketa relaxing, afterall, so he might as well get comfortable in case she fell asleep.
And, despite the feeling of romance and relaxation and content, he couldn't help thinking Ha. I'm in the Hufflepuff Common Room; beat that Prongs!

As she felt Sirius relax beneath her, Marketa slid into a hazy dream.
She, thirteen years old, was walking down the street with a basket of flowers, asking random people if they would like to buy one. She heard a snatch of music, and turned to see a young man with copper-colored curls singing and playing guitar. She took her only Muggle coin out of her pocket and placed it into his guitar case. He peered in after his song was finished and put his hands into the air as if in celebration.
"Ten cents. Brilliant," he sarcastically said with a distinct Irish accent. Marketa's previous delight toward his music faded.
"So you play for de money, den?" she asked challengingly. "Why don't you get a job in a shop like everyone else?"
"I 'ave a job in a shop. I work in a Hoover repair shop," countered the boy. At Mar's obvious lack of hoover-related knowledge, he mimed a vacuum cleaner.
"You fix vacuum cleaners?" she asked. He nodded. "I 'ave a broken vacuum cleaner! You will fix it for me?"
"Okay."
"I will bring it tomorrow?" The boy nodded. "Okay! Tomorrow?" He nodded again, and she grinned. "Dis is great! Bye!" And as her thirteen year old self walked away, her sixteen year old self woke up again. She wasn't sure how much time had passed. She sighed quietly, wondering if Sirius was awake but not wanting to move in case he was sleeping.

"You alright," Sirius asked in response to her sigh. It was probably just a botched yawn or gas, but he wanted to be sure. He wanted to personally make sure that everything was okay when it came to Marketa Prochazka. And he still wasn't sure exactly why.

Mar's eyes moved up to try to peer at Sirius, but her head was heavy with half-sleep, and it was placed right between his shoulder and jaw, so instead she simply roved her eyes around the Common Room to find the clock. "I'm OK," she said quietly. "Just...in a half-state of sleep and dreaming." She took in a deep breath and let it out in another sigh, but this time it was a sleepy one as she reached across Sirius's lap for his free hand.

Sirius's eyes widened and he slid his hand over discreetly so that she would grasp it. That was oddly close to... he thought, giving her hand a squeeze. "M'kay. Go on to sleep, then; I don't mind."

"No, no," Mar said, giving his hand a squeeze. "I would radder be awake. Odderwise I'll just dream the same ting I've been dreaming for monts." She rubbed her eyes, suddenly knowing that maybe it wasn't just her studies keeping her up at night, but also her dreams of her Mum being careless, leaving the door open, and Yvonne toppling headfirst down the stairs to her death. She fought a shiver at the mere thought.

Sirius wrinkled his brow. "Nightmares shouldn't be an excuse to miss a good night's sleep. I'll wake you if I think you're having one..."

Mar shook her head as much as she could while still keeping it on Sirius's shoulder. "But waking odders who are having nightmares is no good excuse for you to miss sleep eider, silly," she said with a small smile.

Sirius chuckled. "There's no way I could sleep here like this if I wanted to... no excuse, it's a fact."

Sirius waved his hand, banishing her comment away. "That would make our company formal. We don't want that."
