Cassidy frowned but followed Aubrey inside. She was chewing viciously on her thumbnail; at this point she was basically just a bundle of nerves.
Maybe the lab owned the hotel she was working for? That had to be it. Yes. That had to be it.
If she were the praying type she'd be doing that right about now.
Cass cleared her throat and finally managed to voice her worries. "Er. Are... um... are you sure this is right? I took a job with a hotel opening here..."

The glass door opened on its own as Aubrey approached, and closed immediately after they got through. The main lobby had a grey marbled floor, several plush couches laid out on oreintal rugs. A coffee table displayed a collection of science magazines, and a few dried flower arrangements stood on small stands. A water cooler was nearby, and Aubrey motioned to it for Cassidy.
"A hotel? No no, there's no hotel here. Its a research facility." Aubrey cocked her head confused. "Don't you know, thats why you're here."
Aubrey pulled out a small cel-phone like radio and pushed a button. "Doctor Moreau - Cassidy Smith is here to see you," she gave a sympathetic look to the girl. She was sure in for a surprise.

Cassidy's mouth worked for a moment. "But... maybe I'm on the wrong island?"
Oh god. Oh god oh god oh god. This was not good. Well. Hopefully, she could talk to this Moreau fellow, and sort everything out, and everything would be fine.
Yes.
Please.
She helped herself to a drink from the water cooler. Her mouth, all of a sudden, felt very dry.

The elevator that had no buttons opened as a red-haired man in a labcoat stepped out.
He held in his hand a clipboard. "Ahhh Aubrey, thank you. I'll take it from here with young Cassidy." he said then looked back down at the clipboard.
"Welcome to my island Miss Smith, I understand your here about a position?" Moreau smiled slightly.

"Uh. Yes." Cassidy crumpled the paper cup in her hand. "I think there might be some sort of misunderstanding. I was contacted about a job at a hotel. As a housekeeper. And Aubrey here says there is no hotel? So there must be some sort of misunderstanding. I'm really very sorry."
She was starting to shake a little. She wanted to run. Quickly and far.

Aubrey nodded to Moreau as he came in, smiling broadly to him, like she always does. She took a step back, going his side and remaining silent unless spoken directly to by Moreau.

"There must have been a misunderstanding with the paper who took that ad. We don't have a hotel here, we do have a better approach to that though. Individual duplexes, of course your welcome to take the job cleaning those."
Moreau looked a little sad, thought it was a bit of an act "Of course due to the confusion I'm sure I could push forward your year raise... 25% extra on your original agreed salary. Which I understand was already very good considering the free food and board."

"Oh." Cassidy took a deep breath. "That's, well, all right, I guess."
The raise was a nice bonus, though. She was mostly just terribly relieved at having it cleared up. She had been starting to formulate weird scenarios about government conspiracies and aliens and mad scientists.
Maybe she did read too much science fiction. Stuff like that didn't happen.

"A few innoculations are of course needed, if you don't mind comming up to my lab. We wouldn't want our newest employee catching some kind of disease here, of course with all the doctors your medical expenses are free too. If there are any." Moreau smiled as he walked Cassidy and Aubrey to the elevator which opened for him. When he stepped inside he said "Floor 8" and the Elevator began to lift.
"Of course the lab is off limits, without authorization." Moreau said matter of factly. "We don't want to pay the extra insurance and we already have a cleaning crew for it."
The door opened and Moreau continued his explination "Your pay is salary, and we don't have many residents yet, meaning you should have a lot of free time. Enjoy yourself, this is a tropical island."

"It is pretty gorgeous here," Cassidy agreed.
A shot. Yick. A necessary evil. "All right. That makes sense. I suppose there's all sorts of weird tropical diseases I gotta watch out for."
It was still weird. But, all else failing, she had her swimsuit and some books and this was going to be awesome. Yes. Totally.
She was going to make herself believe this.

"Good, glad to hear that, if you'll just sit on that metal table over there I'll go get the needle." Moreau walked towards a cabet which opened as he passed his hand near a panel. He stopped for a second, as if considering something then reached and pulled out a vial which he inserted into a needle.
He walked up to Cassidey, squirting a bit of the liquid out of the top of needle. "Roll up your sleeve please, this might cause a bit of discomfort."

Cassidy sat, her ankles crossed and her teeth gritted. She wondered distantly whether the mad scientist scenario or government conspiracy theory was more likely, then dismissed them both in favour of aliens. Then she dismissed that, because that was really stupid.
"I don't like needles much," she admitted. "But I guess no one really does."

Moreau inserted the needle into her arm as there was a stinging sensation as it entered her body and began it's slow work on her D.N.A.
"You may suffer a bit of discomfort tonight, but by tomorrow you'll feel fine." Moreau scribbled something on his piece of paper with the clipboard. "You'll be housed in room 03, there will be someone above you."
He wrote some more notes "Thus far you'll only have five rooms to clean, but there will be more people on the way. You'll find the cleaning supplies in the main building, the large building in the center of the community we've set up."
"Welcome aboard, Aubrey should be able to show you out." Dr. Moreau turned back to his notes.

Aubrey smiled proudly at the doctor, who she had barely taken her eyes off since he entered her presence. "Thank you, doctor, I will."
Aubrey motioned to the elevator and stepped in after Cassidy. "Ground Floor."
Once the door closed, Aubrey smiled at Cassidy. "At least everything got all worked out, eh? This will be exciting! I have to say I love the beaches here. I've been trying to get Moreau out there all week, the weather's just been so perfect."

Cass winced and rubbed her arm. "Thank you, Doctor."
She was vaguely trying to remember back to her year of nursing school; what weird tropical diseases were in this area, anyway?
Also, Dr. Moreau gave her alien-vibes more than mad-scientist or government-conspiracy vibes.
Amazed at her own geekery, Cassidy got up from the table and followed Aubrey into the elevator. "I definitely plan on going swimming."
