Pash was in the midst of changing a squirming Rekha's diaper, potty training was going to begin as soon as the green haired man could find time to go out and buy one because as a toddler it was time for Rekha to learn, when the front door opened and he heard Anao shout “ Hey dad there's a baby in a basket on the porch with a note. She doesn't look too cold but she's squirming and fussing.”

Pash paused for a moment confused, a baby was left on his doorstep? Who in their right mind left a child out in this weather and why him of all people. He had just oped his mouth when his daughter walked into the living room followed by the newly older Owen who held the dark wicker basket carefully as if it were as fragile as the egg Rekha's feline companion had come in.

Jarred out of his funk Pash finished changing Rekha and let the annoyed boy roll away while he stood and approached Owen. Taking a deep breath the guardian angel peered inside.

January 30th, 2007

I do not know what my bosses want with me but I hope I can appease them soon because I fear I'm being taxed to my limit. While it was encouraging to have both Owen and Rekha grow withing days of each other it is also confusing and taxing financially. Certainly Rekha can wear some of Owen's cast off but they will need to be altered but Owen needs new clothing now as well as new school stuff , books and toys.

On top of this I have gained another child a small girl named Connor was left in my care today. Anao of course is thrilled she's wanted a sister for a while and I think she sees the stress I'm under since she's been keeping Rekha occupied all day while doing cleaning beyond her normal chores.

The girl, Connor is a sweet little thing with light grey hair, a green right eye and silver left one. She's been quiet so far but I think she's under some stress too. At least I still have all of Rekha's and Anao's old baby stuff for her, though I'll be moving the crib into my room so I can keep an eye on her at night. There's a lot of adjusting to be done though and things aren't going to be easy. Perhaps it's time to reach out to others. Tek has been missing for years but I have a few other friends who may be able to help me because I do not think I can do this alone.

Sister

Anao gently drew a bright Aqua comb through Connor's slate Grey hair. The girl held her baby sister gently in her lap as she combed her hair. Anao loved doing this, spending time with Connor after school because Connor like her was a girl and as much as she loved her brothers Anao had always wished there had been girls for her to play with at home. Even now she wished Connor was old enough to actually play with and not just be held and fussed over. Still, it was nice to have a little sister and Anao intended to be a good older sister to her.

The redhead was in school a lot of the day but as soon as she got home she did her homework in the living room where she could watch her sister in her playpen and talk to her while she worked. Sometimes as a joke she asked for her help with the homework but was not surprised when answered with silence or unintelligible babbling.

It was moment like those though that Anao thought she was going to like best. She hadn't had her sister long but she was falling into a routine and she liked these parts. The relaxed times when she brushed Connor's hair and told her about all the fun adventures they were going to have when Connor grew up. The future she had always envisioned sharing with a sister didn't seem so far away in these moments.

Food glorious food.

As he spooned pureed pears into Connor's mouth Pash was both amazed and pleased. He come to discover over the past few weeks that there were few things his newest charge wouldn't eat Of all four of his children Connor was the least picky eater he'd ever had and the former battle and guardian angel was greatfull.

With both his sons growing recently they'd gained voracious appetites and both had things they would and wouldn't touch. This made shopping and meals tricky and expensive. Pash had applied for assistance since he now had the mandated four children required to receive it. However while he waited to be processed he still had to be careful about budgeting.

Not that Pash intended to use it forever, once all four of his children were in school full time he'd be able to get a better job and provide for them properly. It just wasn't in his nature to sit back and let others to his work for him.

Turning his attention back to Connor Pash smiled as the bi eyed girl's eyes lit up when her mouth clamped down on another spoonful of the baby dessert. Pash wondered if Connor really liked it or food in general as she'd yet to really show an overly enthusiastic response over anything.

Either way she ate practically everything he gave her and for now that was all Pash really needed to know.

Visitation

Pash was ecstatic to say the least, he had been contacted by his superiors and while his punishment was not yet over and he would not be regaining his wings quiet yet he would be given a special gift. His mother would be permitted to come and visit him for a month.

It had been far too long since Pash has seen or heard from either of his parents and while they were always capable of watching him and his makeshift family they'd never really been introduced. Their approval meant a lot to him and to have his mother there would been both frightening and yet a relief becuase he knew the woman, though long past her child rearing years would not hesitate to try and run the household as if it were her own.

Nevertheless Pash intended to put as little burden on her as possible and was already planning things for all of them to go see and do together to keep his mother from spending too much time in the house.

" What if she doesn't like us?"

Pash was jarred out of his thoughts by the sound of a nervous Anao's voice. The usually confident amber eyed girl seems distressed and was staring at a watch on her wrist as if the steady movement of the second hand ticking soother her.

With a smile Pash reached out and ruffled her cranberry red hair. " Your grandmother will like you" he reassured her " there's nothing not to like."

Anao only frowned and played with some of Connors hair . " But what if she doesn't. What if she hates us becuase.. becuase we're not really her grandchildren." Here Anao's voice dropped to a whisper.

Pash sighed softly " Family is more than blood Anao" he looked over at Owen and Rekha to make sure they got the message as well. " You're her grandchildren becuase you are my children blood or not. Beyond that you are good children and there is no reason for her not to like you. Just be yourself and i promise things will be fine."

Pash knew there was something deeper in all of this and he would need to talk with his children before his mother came but for now Anao seemed placated and the other children were voicing no concerns.

March 2nd

Lack of understanding.

At her tender young age there was a lot that Connor simply didn't understand. This was not to say that she knew nothing, oh she knew how to tell time in a way, she knew instinctually when her meals would come. She knew what awake and sleeping times were and most importantly she knew which sounds to make to get what she wanted. In her small inexperienced life what Connor knew was enough to keep her happy. Still there was a lot that went over her head and many more things that the infant girl noticed but did not understand.

One such thing was occurring right now. Not only had another tall person entered the house not long ago apparently to stay but suddenly there were many smaller people like her siblings coming in and bringing brightly colored boxes. Why where they here and what was the point of the boxes?

More important was why her father was late with her bottle, if he didn't come soon Connor was going to have to give her loud shrill wail of hunger. The cry always got responses and quickly but bothered even her ears and the young silver haired girl would rather not do it if not required. Why did things have to be different today?

March 2nd , 2008

Dear Journal,

So today was Owen's birthday and we had afairly small party, Raven Arrikanez and her children were invited over to help us celebrate since Owen gets along well with her girl Madeline a fellow Eden project. Even with my mother we were still outnumbered greatly by the children but we kept them all rather well behaved. There was good food courtesy of my mother, games which all the children seemed to have varying luck with, and gifts bags given out at the end.

Even Connor joined in somewhat. I gave her a tiny bit of carrot cake mushed together so she could eat it. I'm not sure she loved it but she didn't spit it out or make an annoyed face at me meaning she didn't hate it. I tried to put a little party hat on her but she was having none of that and broke the elastic on it rather quickly trying to pull it off. I don't think she really understands birthday parties yet but at least she will be familiar with them when she grows.

All in all I think the day was a success.

Quiet time

Pash was for the moment alone with Connor, his mother had taken Rekha out for some grandmotherly bonding time and Owen and Anao were at school. This left Pash alone with his youngest. It also left the house entirely too quiet.

Pash enjoyed a relaxing lack of chaos every now and then but this was almost eerily quiet. Connor lay silently on her belly in the playpen, she stared at him green and silver eyes blinking occasionally. Every now and then she would shift position or left out a breathy exhale, otherwise the infant girl was still and silent. Pash noticed she blinked most often when her growing bangs fell into her eyes and he made a mental note to have his mother cur her hair when she got back.

The Guardian angel had wondered if she was ok but the doctor declared her perfectly healthy and just where she should be for her estimated age. Connor was simply put the quiet girl taking the position opposite of Rekha who was the quiet boy. Not that Owen was particularly loud though he'd become more talkative and energetic as he aged.

Suddenly, there was a a rustling in Connors direction an angry hiss and then Zephyr zipped past Pash, yellow eyes flashing in anger. Pash's own seagreen eyes went from the white cat to Connor in an instant. The moment they landed on her the girl began to thrash and ball and the relative peace the house had been in was gone. It hadn't lasted long and though it had been disturbing he'd rather it have not ended quite this way

Picking her up Pash noticed a new small red scratch on Connor's arm. Once again she's gone for the cat's tail when he'd poked it through the netting and once again she'd been fast enough to get it but not fast enough to avoid Zephyr's claws. It was a game the two seemed to play but not once Pash liked. Sometimes he wondered if Connor stayed still just to lure zephyr close. It seemed unlikely though she was far too young for such complex thoughts.

Carrying Connor away to his room Pash shoot Zephyr a look that promised declawing as soon as the kitten was old enough for it.

Dear Journal:

For the first time in my career as a parent I feel like I have truly failed. All of my children have moments when they don't like what I say or do but none of them have ever shown or said that they hated me. Until now that is. The worst thing is there's nothing I can do to erase that anger and a part of me wants to try and justify my reasons why it occurred.

I suppose I should explain.

Today I took Connor to the doctors for a set of inoculations. with so many new diseases appearing on Gaia every day it's best in my opinion to immunize Connor. She doesn't get out to socialize as much as other children, which I am hoping to change soon, but the others do between going to school and other places and they unknowingly bring the germs home with them. There's no sense in just letting her possibly get sick when a quick set of shots could help prevent it. At least that was what I thought.

I took her to the doctor's, the same doctor we saw before when she had her first checkup so it's not like there was anything new about it and she'd been fine that time. I let her play with another baby who was in for her own shots and aside from having a small tug of war over who owned a plastic block things went fine. Everything was fine until the needles.

Long story short Connor hates me becuase I let the doctor stick her with needs, despite both of us and nurse trying to reassure her and keep her mind occupied and happy she seemed to zero in on the fact they she was being jabbed and produced a wail louder than anything I've ever heard.

Now she won't look at me, won't respond to me and won't even let me feed her, thankfully she was willing to let Anao do that becuase otherwise I would have had to try force feeding and the though scares me. Plus I doubt it would endear me to her any.

She hates me now and it's not even really my fault, she needed those shots and i tried my hardest to let her know it was ok. Still, I feel like I should have done more found a surefire way to get her to trust it and me. For now all I can do is hope she doesn't hate me forever.

Hell Hath no Fury

"Eeeah" Connor squealed from her highchair and threw a green plastic spoon at her father as hard as her little body would let her. She didn't care how nice he was trying to be right now he had taken her to that horrible place there they had poked her and made her cry. She was never going back there and she still hadn't forgiven him.

Originally she'd just ignored him but now she was done sulking and was taking a more aggressive role in displaying her displeasure.

Amber eyes flashing with amusement Anao slid out of her own chair and grabbed the fallen spoon that had missed her father. " I should probably feed her again today, but at least she'd acknowledging you're here." The young pre-teen wondered how long her little sister was going to hold a grudge against their father. Not that she didn't have a reason exactly but it wasn't like getting your shots was the end of the world. Of course Connor was just a baby and thus less logical thinking than someone her age.

At least it meant that she got to spend more time with her sister, on the flip side it meant she was usually the one spending time with her which cut into her homework time as well as what little free afternoon time she had.

Owen spent time with Connor as well but he had his own schoolwork to do as well as watching Rekha and gardening at that weird place he always went to. Plus when watching them Anao saw that they practically never really interacted the same way. They would watch t.v or Owen would brush her slate coloured hair and they would just be silent as if they didn't need words. Anao couldn't comprehend not talking to people and still being able to understand them.

After cleaning the spoon off, the redhead approached her sister's highchair and used the utensil to scoop some baby food out of a small pink ceramic bowl. " Come on Connor, be good and let me feed you ok, I don't wanna be late for school so you have to work with me on this." Even though Connor wasn't mad with Anao she was still sometimes a bit fussy especially after getting upset in their father's presence.

Fortunately today she seemed to be willing to co-operate and simply
opened her mouth and waited for the spoon to be inserted.

Anao grinned ans shot her father an apologetic look, hopefully this would all be over soon.

The first steps forward

Pash watched silently as Connor made her way across the length of the couch. Not really walking but pulling herself along, still it was improvement and the first initiative he'd seen her take in that department. The young girl had hit all her other developmental markers and this was the last one left. Pash felt a tug at his heart as her legs unsteadily carried er along her path. He wanted to help Connor but there was nothing he could do, not to mention that she still seemed irritated with him.

The anger she'd been displaying over the doctor's office incident seemed to have faded but Pash still wasn't his youngest daughter's favorite person.

( fwee section to be filled in)

Eyes screwed with determination Connor released the couch and took and few stumbling steps towards Pash. She'd started to lean in the process but managed to remain upright until her hand were caught in his and she was held steady. For all intents and purposes it was a success and the pair smiled at each other

It was the first of many steps forward.
