I'd say it's unusual not to have a token prot pally, if not for MTing, then definitely for offtanking/trash. Hyjal and Shaz trash are really irritating without a tankadin, and divine shield trivializes debuff applications on Gurtogg.

We have a prot pally...
They just heal on the bosses where you dont need them to tank, so they're actually pretty imba.

Tanking IMO must consider
Gear = it is VERY gear heavy, good gear a prot pally or Warrior can tank well. Add-ons = Many tanks require good addon to make sure the rest of the team lives smile this is important. Player = You could have all the addon and gear, but if the player sucks, the tank will suck too sad so experience come into play.
Those are the 3 main area a tank need (pally or warrior)

lol@Max & his rerolling.
The game is moving in a direction where there is no 'best' tank, or if you want to get nit-picky; no 'best' MAIN tank. Blizz is trying to get more people into tanking, by having four different tanking classes in the game, with different playstyles. I won't bash anyone that wants to be the very best tank possible, because it's a boon to the game's community that they want to tank at all. Anyway - personal opinion.
Being serious/nice though: good luck, I hope you enjoy tanking. It's really the biggest roll-over role in the game, it's a lot of stress. But then when you pull off some miraculous s**t, it's an awesome reward, & feeling. <3

After talking to a few people, I admit I didn't know what I was talking about. Prot paladins are apparently really, really good for trash and certain bosses. I SRY.

Tips fo tankinz prz. I tried tanking BRD on my arms warr with my pimped out Aegis of Stormwind and Tooth of Eranikus with icy (lmao), and had a lot of trouble holding aggro on anything more than 2 mobs at a time. Also I was completely oblivious to the healer getting tore into hxc, but maybe that was because I had a splitting headache at the time. I asked a pally in my party who seemed to know his s**t and mentioned he had a 70 warr for some tips and he was all like 'you're not prot, you're not a tank, shut up and tank' kinda thing, after looking at my talents, so I was kinda like 'o_o;'
I had planned on respeccing prot sometime during the whole OL thing, but as spec doesnt matter pre 65, I felt I could still be a viable tank @ mid 50.
Now, am I just blowing chunks out my a** or was this guy a creamy nubcake with a generous helping of delicious failsauce?
My general rotation went 'Battlestance, Charge, Thunderclap, D Stance (all in insane quick succession, I am lightningfingerz), TabsundertabsundertabsundertabsunderREVENGEtabsundertabsunder' and so on and so forth, occasionally throwing in a thunderclap and doing shouts and whatnot. This worked at lv 30, what happened? I know endgame and lowbie tanking are different but I thought sunder still applied threat, y'know?
TL;DR I FAIL AT TANKING HALP PLZ

TL;DR I FAIL AT TANKING HALP PLZSunder is still good later. How was your rage generation, first of all? Did you have to wait between switching targets to do damage? I usually pop Bloodrage straight off for that extra boost of rage so I can get all my shouts off and everything. You really need to get your shouts off early and get at least one sunder on each target. It's hard to diagnose your problem unless you go a bit more in-depth. Another thing to note: Usually, even so low as BRD, groups will give the tank 5-10 seconds to establish aggro and sunder everything up at least once before they rush in and loldps.

I've a 60 Elf warrior who tanked MC, Onyxia and some of BWL, and my 62 Undead Warrior which I've been neglecting unfortunately.
I love Warriors. My favorite class. Tanking's fun.
And on that note, I've no problems with shredding s**t up and having a paladin tank. ;D

The grp was kinda tarded so that could account for some of it. If I charge in I have absolutely zero problems with rage generation, I'm fairly well geared for my level so I usually hit like a truck. If I range pull I have some difficulties. I try to get the fastest, hardest-hitting 1hander for the rage generation, and Tooth of Eranikus isnt bad for that.

I've been asked to tank on my elemental shaman several times. Once I got asked to tank slabs, the guy -insisted- that enhancement was my tanking tree, and that I was a terrible noob for not realizing that...
I ended up just telling him that I was elemental so he would shut up.
