I mean actual warfare. Real combat situations. You very rarly see soldiers on the battlefield come to fists and knives, I'm sure it happens when that clip runs empty... but for the most part guns are the swords of the day.

Too true. Unfortunatley (sp?) the retards running around with guns these days calling themselves "gangztaz" have an aim worse than a Stephen Hawking trying to run a marathon while taking some of his speed, thats what gives guns a bad name. I, myself work in a program run by the youth division of the NYPD and so they teach us the usage of guns and thereof. One thing I learned is that most of these street punks leave the safety on when they threaten to kill you. WTF?

Now why would the NYPD want to go and teach kids how to kill other kids?!?! Makes absolutely no sense.

So that when one kid pulls a gun on you, you will know how to defend yourself.

Personally, I think they should ban pistols. Pistols are useless in most situations. Most people who own them can't shoot them accuratly enough to save their life, and all the do is cause crimes, domestic violence and accidental deaths. 99% of gun crimes are with pistols.

Nothing can beat a 12 guage for home defence. And a nice rifle covers everything else.

I'm talking more of a survivalist standpoint. It may seem like fantasy when you live in a tightly regulated country, sheltered subdivision or city. However, there are places where a good rifle and skill with said weapon means survival. Third world countries have children training with a trusty AK or SKS, knowing that they will need to use it in the future.

Basically, the gun is the ultimate self defence. It may be hard in the UK, but in Amerieca almost anyone with a clean record can carry a concealed firearm, and the ultimate home invasion protection is a twelve guage pump. Just as an expert martial artist trains and does cerimony for his combat skill, a marksman must know how to properly aim, fire, maintain and move with a firearm.

People need to know that there is more to guns than point and click.

I live in New York, a cesspool of crime. I have been mugged with a gun before and ill tell you, owning a gun wouldnt have helped me in any way. This is because you dont know when you are going to be mugged and whe you do, you have a higher chance of getting shot reaching for your gun rather than performing a krav maga technique or best move yet, just give him what he wants. Also you have to realize that even if youi are getting mugged and you shoot the mugger and kill him all hell will be broken loose on your a** by the law, or lets say your skilled and somehow manage to grab your gun without him noticing and shoot out a knee, you still get a lawsuit, especially because he can claim he was defending himself and you were mugging him (this is if you run) so guns are a very sticky situation and in my opinion should only be brough out for war where law for the most part doesnt apply. And yes there where incidents like columbine that MA wouldnt have helped, but do you think that if there was kid with a gun there who began defending the school with his ability, that it would have made the situation better? I think not. While I agree that knowing how to use a gun is important, I dont agree thats its useful for everyday life in anyway aside from a hobby. Plus guns arent useful for many situations and cant do s**t about a mortar shell or airplane bomb. And if america was attacked in such a way where the need to know how to skillfully us an AK or SKS, it wouldnt be with a huge attack with troops, it would be done with nuclear and biological arms, then when most of those skilled people were dead then the troops would come. So I do not in anyway agree that using a gun in any place but war would help.

I would cary a gun but I live in Kansas and they havent let the concealed carry law pass here yet one thing I don't like about guns is the fact that the bullet may not hit the intended target I know how to shoot but there is always that posibility.

Like Saajei said about being muged it's not a good idea to reach for a gun. If the muger is in front of you he can see what you are doing there is a chance that he is not alown I would most likely go for a disarming technique and if I felt it necessary pull out my knife.

Again the law is going to be on the side of the one who was hurt in most casses that I have read about the law sucks but I do what I need to survive.

Of course I'm not stupid, and would never jump at the chance to shoot somebody, even if I was getting mugged... However, I am simply talking about practicality reasons. Guns are the swords of the day, and there is no reason not to be able to wield them as effectivly as practitioners of kinjitsu, kendo or fencing are able to wield swords... or any weapon for that matter.

Once again, I am not one of those gung-ho kill or be killed types... In fact I am fully against pistols outside of any use other than possibly a sidearm for bow hunting. (for the bears)

I am simply stating, if people find piece of mind in learning weapon arts, why not shooting?

We are geting concealed carry here in Kansas and I plan to go for it. I may not ever use it but I will have it if I need it. If some one has a gun on you and they are close useing your hand to hand is much faster and ther are ways of turning the weapon back on them carrying is just back up.

"You flash your piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, stick it up your a** and pull the trigger til it goes ... click"

"Thats right mon, nobody ******** with tha jesus"

There are some realy dumb people who just stick the gun in your face or up to your back. My cousin stuck a bb gun in my back and I took it from him befor he could pull the triger. Alot of people say you don't have time to do that sort of thing but I would rather try it than have my life in some one elsses hands.

If anyone knows how to handle a gun, they arn't going to let you wrestle it away from them. It may happen... and it's better then nothing if you know they are going to shoot you... but it's a long-shot... and will get you killed more often then not. Now a knife may give you a better chance, but it's still risky. Your best bet would be to brush the berrel of the gun away from you with your left hand while you slice their neck with the knife, hoping it's fast enough. Knife vs gun combat was common in ww1 and even parts of ww2. I've even heard stories of soldiers in Iraq getting a few frantic knife kills in.

There are ways of holding a gun on some one you keep it out of there reach and close to you. Normaly I would stay a few steps away from some one they would need to walk over to me to hit me and my gun would be held closer to my body.

Recently my dad remarried and my step brother and I have been hanging out. One of his friends said some one they know who is over seas now was attacked walking down some stairs he killed the guy with his combat knife. From what I heard he stuck the guy in the head with it.

Guns are not realy needed these days it would solve alot of the problems we have if they were made illegal. But because of the way we are here in America it won't happen and I wouldnt realy want it to happen. Its one of those things that I agree and disagree with.
