The gilded mare couldn't help but laugh at how much his manner had changed; it felt good to see Aitumn in such a good mood. It still astounded her how much he'd changed since they first arrived at the tree. He'd gone from a serious stallion of few words and restless spirits to an amusing silly thing who loved to tease and joke with her. "They can be jealous all they want," she teased self-importantly with a light chuckle.
"In that case," she said after a thoughtful pause, "we should depart at once! But let's make this interesting - last one to the tree has to do whatever the other tells them to for a day. Okay? Go!" Not waiting for a response, as that wouldn't be as much fun, the gilded mare danced to the side with a grin before bolting towards the tree, laughing. She hadn't any idea what either of them would ask the other to do, but the thought was amusing all the same.

Was the stallion the least bit worried about this race? Not at all, he knew his speed, he knew his balance, and he had yet to find the limits he could push himself to; however it would be no fun to blow past and win like that. If he even wanted to win at all. Oh, the sly devil he was, pranced in a place for a stride longer, his knees jutting up in turn before both planted themselves into the ground as his rump tilted itself sideways to right himself and push forward after the golden mare. "Its a deal!" he called after her, flinging a lengthy midnight tail upwards like a streaming banner to keep it from dragging on the ground; a thick mane growing wild with movement along his neck and withers.
Sure, his movement wasn't up to par at the moment, and his left shoulder jutted out further than normal to keep it from hurting, but the blood bay was able to keep a mild pace with fairly steady strides. It took some doing, quite a bit of doing, to catch up and perhaps more than he would have liked, but that did not stop the coy flip of his forelock as he pulled up, nor the prancey bobbing of his head that held itself erect and on a light arch.
Movement, oh how Aitumn enjoyed such tools to use at his dispossal and upon his own whim, and how easily such things had always been the Jala. With a bit of a chuckle however, he pushed himself just a little bit further, hoping to keep the race neck-to-neck or strides behind/ahead till the end. When the end did come, he hadn't a clue who would win.

She laughed, galloping towards the trees of Shrilal. Her strides were still a bit off, and there was a dull pain in her side with every stride, but she ignored it and grinned at her partner, as she'd come to think of him. And there he was, at her side, still being as silly as ever and teasing her. She tossed her head and grinned at him as she chuckled again, extending her strides and taking the lead as she rushed around a group of trees towards Tucker's. It had been so long, too long, since she'd had a good run, and, though she was a bit rusty, it still felt absolutely wonderful. She didn't think she could ask for anyone better to race with, either.
As it was a race, she figured the blood bay would probably best her, though she hadn't thought of it at the time. She was a fast runner, she knew, but she figured Aitumn would probably be faster than she, although the gilded mare didn't know for sure. It didn't matter though, she decided with an ecstatic grin. Tucker was fine, she'd met with her mother again, she was racing Aitumn, and they were all going to the ocean. She didn't see how things could get any better.

The thought occured to him that he too should compete for the front position, but his gaze lingered slightly as she came into view from the side. It was by no accident he had singled out her golden sheen in that little bout of poetic justice earlier, for he did find the mare to be rather beautiful in appearance. Since when had that ever attracted him to someone though? With some pondering, Aitumn concluded the reason he enjoyed her company so much- terribly understated he knew- wasn't because of her beauty, or even his obligation to Tucker. He liked her. Fiery, playful, and with a good head on her shoulders that he could bounce ideas off. Accountable as well, trust worthy, and indeed a partner in the protecting of their dear son. All in all, he had no desire to leave her side. Whereas, earlier in the raising of Tucker he had pondered over why the usual whims of travel neither reached his mind nor pulled at his heart, but now it was as clear as spring water. Cressida herself was an adventure. An endless depth to be explored and held with affection. Satsified with his thoughts, he returned his mind to the race at hoof, his smirk sliding into a full on grin as it was his turn to up the anty.
They were close to the tree now, and though he had kept his mild pace he saw her now fairly ahead of him, and leapt into a totally different gear. It was as if a switch had been pushed in the stallion's sleek form, mild strides lengthening and well-formed muscles that were like pistons shot out from their sleepy restraints. With quickened pace he was able to catch up once again, his shoulder close to her barrel now with his head still raised in that playful manner.
As he edged forward a single sting shot up from his shoulder to travel his wither, making the blood bay wince slightly as his stride hesitated in a tender catch to the ground. Without thought he switched his lead, taking the pressure from said leg and placing into a slightly less stressful position; his strides staying to match the golden mare.

"I'll beat you!" She called with a grin, despite the fact she could see he was swiftly catching up to her. That was alright, though; she didn't think she'd actually beat him, but teasing him was one of her favorite things to do. In fact, teasing and joking was one of her favorite things to do, but she'd found there weren't many she could do it with. Not only did he mind her teasing, he joined in tenfold with his name-calling and taunting. All in good fun, of course, and the thought made her smile. She thoroughly enjoyed his company, and beyond that, she thoroughly enjoyed being around him. His stories were wonderful, he was affectionate, he loved their son dearly, and beyond that he was willing to protect the both of them from anything, not simply from the green brute. She sincerely hoped that once Zak left them alone and once Tucker was fully grown, that she and the blood bay would stick together, although she hesitated upon saying such a thing in conversation.
A mischievous grin formed on her muzzle as a sudden thought struck her. As Aitumn's shoulder became level with her barrel, one of her muscular tails snaked out and snapped him lightly on the flank with a grin. Not hard, of course; just enough to startle him, perhaps.
She thereafter lengthened her strides, flying over the hard ground as fast as her golden hooves could carry her. However, the throbbing spot on her side disagreed with this action and sent a painfully sharp stab through her side, causing her to cringe slightly and slow down a bit. That's what she got for running as fast as possible after getting landed on by a brute a foot taller and twice as heavy as she.

Despite himself and his shoulder he couldn't help but quirk his upper lip up in a silent laughter, nostrils flaring and unflaring briefly. "That's not what the clouds tell me!" he chimed, playing on the earlier jokes of before, however not at all serious. If clouds could talk, he severely doubted it would be anything like this, and they probably wouldn't talk to him either. Nonetheless, in his musings he would remain, and a grin he would keep plastered to his muzzle.
He was getting back into the pace of even strides now that he was on a different lead leg, but the sudden snapping of a tail on his flank had his hind quarters juttering out in a surprised kick to the air- however he needed to give a partial leap in order to do so. With that out of the way he gave an sharp snort of amusement, dull dark eyes shifting over to the golden mare once more. Oh she would pay for that! With a devious smirk, the blood bay pushed himself further to catch up again; the tree now in sight wit a clear stretch to its reaches.
Calmly, innocently, he pulled up beside her again, giving her a flip of his forelock as if waving goodbye, and digging in further into his reserves. However, he merely pulled up slightly, enough to keep her close... before unfurling a single wing to block her view. He wasn't totally mean though, for the tips of his feathers spread out enough for her to see through at least a little bit. Last thing he wanted was to have her run into a tree.

She smirked, amused that she'd caused him to buck a little, and tried to push herself further despite the sharp pain in her side. She laughed a bit as he flipped his forelock but nearly balked as she suddenly found her vision blocked, and she tossed her head, pulling back a bit with a snort. She smirked again, and merely pulled up closer to the blood bay and slid her neck out, nipping at his neck at the same time a tail snaked out to snap him on the flank again. "The clouds must be wrong, then!" She hadn't any idea how clouds could actually talk to anyone, anyway, and if they could she doubted they'd be wrong, but still.
She pulled the last bit of her energy to sprint forward a few paces to stay next to him, maybe pass him just a tad, and she grinned over at him with a toss of her head. Two could play at his game. She unfurled one wing, extending it to block his vision. She did, however, make sure he wouldn't run into trees or anything by keeping it slightly higher, so if he were to duck his head a bit he'd be able to see. She didn't want him running into anything or tripping and falling because she'd been too playful. She could see her mother now, or what she knew was her mother at least; laying down beside the tree with Tucker next to her, fast asleep. Good, he hadn't missed them much, then.

He had just about been ready to sprout some other odd form of expression when he caught her reaction, an light snicker of a snort escaping him as the blood bay lingered in his pace slightly. He had no goal in racing with Cress, no desire to win, no hunger to blow past with a burst of speed. However, he did want to continue their teasing game and messing with each other over and over again. And that required him to stay close to the Reya mare at all times. With great ease and glee, Aitumn remained happily in his idling gallop when he heard her come up behind him again.
Sure, he wanted her next to him, but he should have expected the rebuttle in such a berage! Nipping, swatting, and him nearly starting when a membrane came out of nowhere. Good gosh! Lucky for him he finally gave up his high headed run to drop his gaze slightly, able to peak out under the wing for a good view of what was in front of him. "Silly Imp!" he spoofed in a mock triumphant manner, attempting to 'sneak' under the wing with stretched out neck and tightly folded wings.

"I could say the same to you!" She said with a devious grin, ears perked forward as she laughed and pulled her wing away. No sense in keeping it over his back since he was simply going underneath it. "Mischievous devil!" She laughed, snaking a tail out to snap him on the flank a third time.
Just then, however, her constant strides were suddenly interrupted by a shallow hole in the ground, causing the gilded mare to stumble a bit. The instant she did, a sharp pain shot up her leg and spread into her side, making her wince. She shook her head and continued, albeit a bit slower, and studied the stallion who was now ahead of her.
It didn't matter who won, in her mind, but dammit she wanted to play around and it was hard to do because of the still-sore spots, and the damned pain in her side.
Damned green Aeri..

Haha! It was truely wonderful to be running around like this and playing games on one another. Aitumn loved to run and to work his muscles to keep in shape, but adding in the twist of the silly golden imp made it all the more enjoyable. Though the snapping of a tail, again, to his flank merely had him fling his tail upwards in a coy manner as its length was tossed to the side to gleam jet black in the sunlight. Had he perhaps a tail like her he would have done the same and snapped it out, but in fact he didn't. Mere feathered wings was what he possessed, however their excellent use could be just as pleasingly used.
It was when she suddenly slowed down that the blood bay Jala threw a sideways glance in her direction, checking to see what she was doing- he noticed the tailend of a wince and then a shake. He had felt the sting earlier from his shoulder, and so he wasn't hard to imagine what might have gone on. Unwilling to take the battle just like that, and again unwilling to run without her, he slowed himself considerably till she was able to catch up, nosing a muzzle out to tap her neck.

As her bright emerald eyes flitted up to study the blood bay, she couldn't help but smile as she noticed his slowed pace. She grinned and tossed her head as she felt him tap her neck with his muzzle, kicking out her back legs a bit in more of a playful mood than for any other reason. She didn't quite know why he'd slowed down to match her pace, but she had a feeling it was similar to her opinion; playing and teasing each other was more enjoyable and desirable than seeing who the fastest one was. Just blowing past wasn't much fun at all.
She reached out and nipped at his neck gently before grinning, lengthening her strides for one final burst of energy as she took the lead, ignoring the pain in her side for the time being. As she pulled ahead of him, she snaked a tail out to flick him on the nose. She'd taken the lead, and that was about as much as she could do at this point, she figured, as she noted her severe lack of energy. She still hadn't fully recovered from everything quite yet. Her recovery from the tree had been delayed by their visit from Zak, and so she didn't have as much energy she she figured she would have if the big green idiot hadn't come barreling into their lives. Oh well; the most she could do was ignore him for now, and try to let her injuries heal, and keep the lead while not blowing past the blood bay Jala.

The stallion had to wrinkle his nose at that, feeling the snap of the tail at the end of his velvet muzzle. What to do about her going up ahead? Well, he figured any more stress on his shoulder would have it throbbing again, so he did the only thing he could do at the moment with a fair... er unfair outcome. With some maneuvering in his position and glancing around to see the path they were traveling was wide enough, the blood bay silently opened his feathered wings and with a burst from his hind legs leapt upwards into the air to quickly catch himself with some rather loud flaps of his wings.
He didn't fly very high, in fact he seemed to float above the mare as she ran, a grin plastered onto his face as he moved upwards; lengthy midnight tail draping itself down, out and in front of her for a brief moment. As if in a game of leap frong he touched down a bit of a ways in front of her and continued his loping strides to the last stretch towards the tree.

The mare snorted in amusement as she found herself quite ahead of the stallion, wondering why he wasn't attempting to come up alongside her this time. That was, until his hoofsteps stopped. Completely and utterly confused as to why, she looked to either side of her for any sign of him. She nearly balked at hearing the beat of his wings directly above her, and right as she looked upwards she got a face full of tail.
She couldn't help but grin at his cleverness, and she tossed her head to get a clear view of the world in front of her before releasing an amused whinny. She snaked her neck out and nipped at his tail, managing to grab a small bit before giving it a good tug. She let go as he landed and quickly peered around him, trying to see if she had room to do the same. She'd need quite a bit more room than he did; she wasn't sure if she could fly faster than he could run, and even if she could, she wouldn't be able to in cold weather. So, she instead settled for pushing herself further, ignoring the dull throb in her side to increase her pace, and she came up alongside the blood bay. With an amused grin, she reached out to n** at his neck again.

He had felt the tug to his tail, and yet he had been unable to do anything while in flight. Nonetheless it made for a fun game, and as such he couldn't wait for the mare to come up beside him again, hoping to continue their little exchange of tricks and good-humored antics. Though, it would be terribly outlived, for the tree was just ahead of them, a good twenty strides or so it appeared, but Aitumn was hardly ever able to figure such things out.
Taking a n** to the neck with a shake of his great mane in rebutle, the blood bay Jala attempted to push his muzzle into her cheek, lipping at her golden coat before finally having to slow himself to a lope, and there after a trot and finally a walk to approach the tree. He had noticed Tucker had been asleep once they had gotten closer, and he wasn't sure he wanted to wake the boy. Sure, he would have loved to play games with the little colt, but foals needed sleep as well, and he wasn't sure how tired Tucker had been earlier. With a devious smirk he turned a triumphant face to the golden sheen Reya; as if it had been he who won the game.

The gilded mare snorted in amusement, shaking her slender head at the feeling of the velvet muzzle on her cheek. She slowed as he did, her tired body grateful for the slowed pace while her mind disliked the fact they could no longer run and tease each other. Oh well; there still remained the ability to tease while standing. With a sly smirk, she snaked her nose out and--
"Had fun?" The white mare asked with a grin as she turned her head to see them both better, refusing the urge to shift her weight as the little colt was still fast asleep at her side.
Cress quickly retracted her head, offering her dam a sheepish grin. "Yeah, we had to talk about a few important matters." Which was true, of course, just not the whole truth.
Still....
She offered her mother a smile, taking a step forward and angling herself so her dam wouldn't notice. "How was Tucker while we were gone?" She snaked a tail out, snapping it on Aitumn's flank while she asked the question of her mother.
"Of course, dear," she chuckled, shaking her head a bit. "He was fine, he hasn't woken up at all since you'd left." Just because she no longer had a mate didn't mean she couldn't tell when two twitterpated nequus were fooling around, as they seemed to be. If Cress was trying to hide her teasings, it wasn't working at all. Oh well; she'd let the younger mare think it was.
