Intombi didn't know it, but she had met one of Habu's cousins. If she had known that Janja was related to him, she'd be jumping up and down right now in excitement about having yet another tie to him. Running into family members was so not going to get old. In fact, she wouldn't have minded meeting more of his family. It was almost like a source of amusement for her, to see how many lions he was related to. She could easily turn it into a game, since she planned to stay in that den for a while yet. Even if that wasn't the original plan.

As the subject turned to Kiwi, Intombi winced. She knew it was a touchy subject and hadn't really meant to bring the conversation towards it, though she was starting to think that would be hard when talking about family. Maybe this wasn't such a great idea, anyway. "I don't really know any of my family that well." She shrugged a little. "I mean, I know my mom and Roho, but I was never close to them or anything." She wasn't sure if she would've prefered it to be th other way, either. Maybe she could get close to a family of sorts some day, but she didn't mind not being really tight with what little she had right now. She had other stuff to make up for it.

Habu bit his lip when Riko suddenly soured their pleasant conversation, though he didn't blame him. He'd always known Riko and Kiwi were quite the pair together, after all, their favorite game had always been pestering him. He got up and went over and sat down at his uncle's side. He wouldn't risk Riko's frustration by saying she was OK again, but instead just sat there with him.

Riko grumbled under his breath when Habu came and sat with him, not necessarily wanting to be babied over this- but he was glad Habu didn't start going on and on again about how she would be OK. The more it was said, the less he really believed it. Instead, he looked to Intombi and tried to go along with the shift in direction of the conversation.

"Why weren't you close?" he asked nosily, "You were a rogue, right? Don't rogues have close families too?"

Suddenly feeling left out, Intombi held back a pout. Habu and Riko were sitting next to eachother and there she was, by herself. This just wouldn't do. She quickly stood up and moved over to the pair, where she inserted herself inbetween them. She had to push a little, and it was a tight squeeze, but it was better than sitting staring at them, right. After several seconds of wiggling around, she settled on position and sighed contently.

Now that she was happily situated, she decided to answer Riko's question. Casting her glance over at him, which wasn't difficult since he was awfully close now, she shrugged. "I dunno. I just ran around a lot when I was a cub. My mom hunted a lot, and me and my brother just didn't connect, I guess. We just kind of all went our own way during the day and then got back together for the night." She never really gave it much thought. "Yeah, I was a rogue, but I dunno about other rogue families. I mean, they might. I ran into a wild dog once who had a giant family she was pretty tight with... although she was kind of running away from them, so I guess she only half counts."

Habu was surprised when Intombi came over and wiggled her way in between him and Riko, moving a bit back so that she would have more room- though not enough to make her think he was trying to get away or something. He just did his best to make sure that she could get comfortable again, and he was a little surprised (but mostly amused) by her joining them.

Moved over, he was happy to just listen to her explanation. He already knew a bit about her family, so he didn't bother jumping in. He did, however, think about how weird they would look if someone showed up at that very moment.

Riko was just as confused and amused by Intombi's wriggling into the spot between them, and he too moved over a bit so she could get comfortable- though he moved a bit farther, and had to fight the urge to go and move away from them. She was just trying to sit with them, he supposed that would be ok.

"Oh," he muttered, tilting his head and looking over at Intombi, "We all do our own thing during the day and stuff, but we're still close.. and I always liked coming to bother Bubu." With a grin, Riko leaned forward to grin smugly at Habu. Even without Kiwi, he could enjoy bothering him a bit.. though it would have been more fun if Kiwi was there too..

Not really realizing how odd this whole situation was, she wiggled around happily in her newly given room. "I guess you could still be close even if you - Bubu?" She cocked a brow and folowed Riko's gaze to stare at Habu. "... Bubu?" If she really gave it thought, she could've guessed who it was with great accuracy, but instead she stared at Habu with one of those 'please, do tell' looks on her face. Even as she stared at him, she was figuring that her guess was correct, but she figured she could give Habu at least a chance to defend himself.

Now that she was sitting in between them, she gave the pair a look over. She definitely thought they were both attractive males, and she loved Riko's growing pink mane. It was so adorable! She could practically reach over and ruffle it with her paw. Habu, on the other hand, was adorable in one way but more handsome in the other. She didn't feel an impulse to ruffle his mane, but she'd do it anyway if she felt like it. Just... not right now. Although one of these days, she'd probably just break down and do it. And then promptly fix it. (It was just bad bad bad to mess with someone's hair and then not fix it.)

Habu was startled when suddenly his nickname was brought up, and until Intombi looked over at him he wasn't entirely sure that she hadn't heard it before. The look on her face, however, said it hadn't come up before. He smiled sheepishly at the two sets of eyes on him at that moment.

"Yeah, Kiwi called me what once and Riko wouldn't stop," he explained with a short glare at his uncle, "So it stuck."

Despite bringing up Kiwi again, Riko couldn't help but stay rather cheerful through this. After all, it seemed what Habu had never mentioned this before, and Intombi was a bit confused by it.

"I suppose it's just something you get with close families," he added, glancing to Intombi, then looked back over to Habu, "Maybe we should give Intombi a nickname."

He grinned smugly at Bubu at this, clearly suggesting it as some sort of initiation into the family. Or, Riko hoped it would be clear from the look he gave Habu- he would simply resume a smile if Intombi looked at him.

Suddenly, the lioness burst into a fit of giggles. "Bubu?" She couldn't handle it. It was just so great. She almost felt bad about saying it, since it was a 'family' thing. Or at least, that's what she was assuming it was. "That's great." She managed to get in a couple of real breaths and steady herself enough to seem like a normal lion. Her sides hurt and her brain was pretty much shutting off, but it felt great anyway. "That's funny. I'm not sure I can let you just get away with having that nickname now."

She turned to Riko, still a little giggley. "Do you have one, too?" She suddenly wondered if all close little families had little nicknames for eachother. If she were to give her mom a nickname, she wasn't even she what it would be. Or even Roho. He was a bit on the wacky side, if you catch her drift. She couldn't come up with any cute pet names like Bubu. At the thought of a nickname for herself, she started giggling again. "Dunno what you could possibley come up with for that one."

"Yeah, ha-ha," Habu said with a sarcastic laugh, sticking out his tongue at Riko for bringing it up- though he truthfully didn't mind. It was good-natured after all, strangers making fun of him for it wouldn't have been OK but Intombi was just fine.

"Riko does not have one, actually," he announced suddenly, making it sound like this was a good idea- to give Riko one. He was trying to get back at his uncle for the look he gave him when offered to give one to Intombi, "If we're going with last syllables in names, that would make Riko 'Koko'."

He said this matter-of-factly, looking back at Intombi, "I don't know, what do you think? I kind of like Koko for him, though it seems a bit girly, maybe."

Riko was not impressed with how this had turned on him, not at all. So he stuck his tongue out at Habu for his suggestion, and did his very best to ignore it by speaking very loudly to Intombi.

"I don't know yet, but I'll think of something for you," he promised in a loud voice.

Intombi was very close to another giggling fit, but she managed to keep this one under control. Only a couple laughs escaped. "Oh, it goes with the pink." She winked back at Riko, hoping he wouldn't take it too harshly. In truth, she loved his pink markings. They sort of reminded her of her own ones, though they were completely different shapes and a different shade. It didn't take much for Intombi to be reminded of things, though. “I think Koko is a cute name. It goes along perfectly with Bubu. You guys will be quite the pair.” She turned to Habu and nudged him gently in the shoulder.

She was secretly glad to be brought in on this little nickname giving session, and would’ve voiced it if she hadn’t wanted to bring attention to how happy it made her. “I’m sure you’ll come up with something after a while. I don’t mind the wait.” For now, at least, she could just harass Bubu and Koko.

Habu couldn't hold back a chuckle when Intombi agreed with him and even called Riko pink. This turned out to be a very amusing conversation after all. It wasn't so bad being called Bubu, perhaps Riko would come to enjoy being called Koko- though something in Wahabu told him that it was very unlikely to happen, Kiwi was probably the only one who could get away with something like that.

"Will be?" he repeated after Intombi, "We already are. Can't get the boy away from me, really.."

No, Riko did not like this at all- especially when Intombi decided to say Koko went with the pink. On this subject, Riko was very opinionated- his markings were not pink, merely a pale red. While his brothers on occasion messed with him by calling him pink, he just plain did not see it.

"It's not pink, it's red," he announced in the same loud voice, "And you-" he glared at Habu, "You know you liked when Kiwi and I came to visit. But, I can tell when I'm not wanted."

With that, Riko got to his feet and moved away from their little lion-sandwich, giving Intombi a lot more room. "I'll leave you to love birds to laugh it up," he said, sticking his tongue out.

Intombi laughed along with Habu up until Riko decided on leaving. Her laughter fizzled out very quickly, and she managed to actually have a very serious face. "Aw, Riko, I didn't mean it like that..." When he moved away from them, her side felt oddly empty, like it is after getting up from a long nap. Afterhis last comment, though, she simply stared at him. She could n longer tell if he was offended or if he was joking, and she wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen now.

One very important thing about Intombi is that has never learned to understand an awkward situation. This would be one of those times. Her only reaction to Riko was that of surprise and slight concern. She glanced at Habu as if to ask what was going on, and then quickly darted her eyes back on Riko. "Why are you leaving?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:43 pm

With a seemingly unlikely reaction, Habu only started to laugh when Riko got up- up until he called them lovebirds, which got him to calm down a bit- especially when Intombi seemed only more confused. He wasn't sure why, but her confusion made him feel odd, and not a very pleasant odd.

He supposed their fun and games was over for now, and he too got to his feet.

"Now you've ruined the fun for everyone, Riko," he said in a very mock-disappointed tone, "Guess we'll have to find something more fun to do, it's starting to get pretty bright and hot right here anyway."

"It seems a lot hotter when sitting so close," he agreed with Habu, sticking out his tongue defiantly despite this, "I'm surprised Intombi hasn't melted yet- but your fur is kind of sticking out funny from when you wiggled between us."

Riko, while somewhat displeased with the whole pink-Koko conversation, was not entirely unhappy with the pair of them. In fact, Intombi's apparent confusion at his comment rather amused him.

She wasn't at all happy that they had to get up, but she had to agree that it was getting awfully hot. She was just standing up when Riko had to mention fur sticking out at odd angles. Her eyes widened in near horror, and then quickly scanned her own fur. It needed grooming, and it needed it fast. She then glanced over at Habu's side, and was dismayed to find his fur in need of fixing as well. She almost didn't want to look at Riko's side, but she did, and once again found something wrong. "Oh gosh. Our coats! This needs to be fixed." She stared helplessly at the two of them and suddenly pivoted on her hind leg and ran into the den to launch herself into yet another hardcore grooming session.

In the few seconds it took her to get inside the cozy cave, she managed to think out about a billion steps to her next move. First, she'd groom herself. Then, she'd have to make Habu and Riko fix themselves up. If they refused, she'd have to resort to grooming one or both of them herself. They just couldn't stay with their fur sticking out like that. Absolutely not. Not while they lived with her! And so, with this in mind, she glued her tongue to her side and began.

Habu's eyes widened when Riko commented on Intombi's fur, expecting the very reaction that came from it- she freaked out. And the use of the word "our" when saying what was wrong, and that it needed fixing.. he half expected her to come over and try to fix it herself- but when she disappeared into the den, he knew that she would be back to make sure their fur was properly fixed.

"Good job, Koko," Habu said with a small laugh, "She'll be back out here, you know."

Riko had pretty well expected that reaction as well, but he did not know Intombi as well as Habu did- he wasn't entirely sure that she meant it when she said they needed to be fixed. He was OK with how his was, and he wasn't about to let someone mother him. If he wanted that, he'd be at home.

"Then I'm out of here," he said, turning to walk off.

"Well, she's not going to be finished for a while," Habu called after Riko, though he decided to follow after him. Perhaps it would be best to just go for now, she could be OCD by herself, perhaps it would be calm if they waited long enough before returning.

"Where're we going?" Habu asked, following along with his young uncle.
