Yakuti was always surprised by Shira's mood swings, but he enjoyed them all the same. If Shira wanted to play rough, Yakuti wanted nothing more than to satisfy her.
"You're sure you want your beast unleashed?" He teased, trotting briskly around the perimeter of the den while keeping an eye on his mate. "As you wish, love."
Yakuti flashed her a grin in response to her statement, "I'm fully confident in your abilities to fend off any other." He wagged his tail in a tauntingly playful manner, "But you know I can out-muscle you."
The male quickly realized that Shira was not merely playing, and soon her form was speeding toward his at full force. Yaku braced himself for the impact and flattened his ears back, taking the blow without flinching. The both of them ended up sprawled on the ground, but very little damage was done. Yaku twisted his muscular form around and quickly stood over her, jaws poised to clamp down on the scruff of her neck if given the chance, though he doubted that victory would come so easily from Shira.

She knew he can, there was no doubt in her mind that Yakuti could not not outpower her. He was a male, that was a simple fact of looking down, the scent he gave off, his voice, and that handsome, rugged feature. Not only that, while she was in heat, she knew he was driven by testosterones and that just made him even stronger and more feral.
However, she liked things rough, gave her a challenge.
With a snap of her jaws, only missing because of the jaw firmly clamped around his neck. Unable to get at his neck or shoulder, leg or foot, she aimed for the closest thing to her.
His face.
With a few bites and a snarl, she kicked up hard with her hind feet to get at his belly, conscious as to where the blows were delt and landed. She did not want to hit too low or all of this would have been utterly pointless.

Yaku growled as Shira's jaws narrowly missed his face, and reluctantly released her as the hard blows to his belly hit again and again.
The rush of such a good fight made him even more determined to win, but he made sure to remember not to hurt his mate too severely. His aim was to prove himself, not to injure or kill.
Keeping that in mind, he backed off slightly, out of range of both Shira's snapping jaws and her kicking legs, before lunging at her in an attempt to gain the upper hand.

Shira nearly rolled away to get away from the oncoming mass of a hyena coming at her. She let out a loud snarl before snapping her jaws at him again. She was slipping into a more of a disadvantage than she thought. He was becoming out of paw for her. Out-muscling and the scent was becoming distracting.
At a last attempt to win, she was going to chance a risk. Quickly running into the dark tunnel, she hopped her nose was better than Yakuti's.

Yaku smirked as Shira avoided his blow, and scampered after her down the tunnel. He knew the tunnel as well as she did, but he did not want to risk taking it too fast and running into anything.
Following Shira's scent, now quite strong due to her heat, Yaku slowly and quietly made his way around in the darkness. He sniffed around for Shira, but didn't feel that he was close enough to strike accurately. He pressed on, doing his best to keep quiet so that he would not reveal his position if Shira decided to turn around and attack him in the dark.
Of course, there was always his scent, but he had hardly taken that into account.

Shira knew this tunnel inside in out. In fact, this whole thing was just like the previous mating they had that resulted in pups. She frantically ran down the tunnel where a beam of light shown down from the moon light above. It was outside there she was taken. However, this was different. She knew her mistake and she wasn't gonna be taken again.
She sniffed the air for Yakuti's musky scent, easily picked out from Ophos' odor. She was glad that Ophos liked sleeping in the dark otherwise, she wouldn't be able to pick out her mate's scent so easily. Shira lunged forth but landed upon the soft ground. Missed. As she lifted her head to sniff again, her nose touched a single bristle of Yakuti's fur sending her into a fit, a quick reaction. The female lunged at Yaku and hammered into his side before quickly making away further down the tunnel.
Attack and run.

Yaku heard Shira's first failed attempt to attack, and froze. Due to this mistake, however, she managed to hit him hard. He grunted and scrambled to his feet. There was no more messing around now.
Yaku tore after her, barely avoiding tripping several times before he finally decided to attack.
He sniffed the air and smelled where Shira was, or at least had been only moments before, and flung himself at the spot blindly. He missed, but felt one of his paws brush against her fur. With lightning reflexes he twisted his neck and snapped his jaws, hoping to snag one of her legs or perhaps her tail.

Half her body was illuminated by the moonlight falling down from the tunnel's exit, at least their exit and an entrance to those coming. She gave a yelp as she turned back with a scowl at the slight form of another latched onto her tail. She turned around on the spot and sat down where she was, facing him whilst her tail in his maw.
With a firm smack to his head she snarled.
"DON'T BITE MY TAIL LIKE THAT," normally, she liked it but when she is in heat, he might have missed and bitten something else, something she did not appreciate even if he did miss and gotten something else. Her tail was simply off limits for the time.
It seemed like the game was on but she wasn't all that willing to retaliate anymore.

Yaku felt something hit his head followed by Shira's voice, and released her tail. He stood up and looked at her apologetically, though it was probably too dark for her to see it fully.
"Sorry, it was dark."
He couldn't help but think that this all could have been avoided if Shira hadn't run into the tunnel, but he kept quiet. He knew that Shira's mood swings were more random than ever when she was in heat, and he knew better than to argue with her over something so small.
He paused. Were they still going to fight?
"So, now what?"

She still growled and moved back into the light at the end of the tunnel and sat herself down, head raised to the sky.
"It won't be too long now and soon enough, we'll hear the pitter patter of your pups running around. Then the family will came back for a visit. You know, it was alright when they were all around, less work for us but more food to bring home. At least they were there to help catch what we could," She spoke, thinking of the future. How her life was as a hyena and a mate. Everyone had a side of them that was different from what they really are. She saw this side as weak, vulnerable. Why she only shows it to Yakuti is because he understands her, because he is able to protect her when she may not be able to.
Her tail flicked around her paws. Then a glint from a toothy smirk.
"Then we can dump the entire litter on all of them while we go back to our ways. Alone together."

Yaku followed silently, and sat himself down beside her. He looked up at the moon, and then to Shira as he listened to her talking.
He listened intently, and was surprised to hear that she sounded almost... Lonely? She had shown her soft side to him earlier, and he enjoyed how open she was to sharing with him, but it was a bit odd to hear Shira speak in such a way. Either way, he was ready to fight for Shira, and defend her from what ever might come after her; be it males or lions or even one of the lion gods. He'd protect her at any cost.
Yaku smiled, "Of course." He sort of liked the idea his children taking care of their younger siblings. Perhaps if Ophos had something to occupy him, he'd be less headstrong, and if Zua had a pup or two with her, the male would be off-put from her.
"Alone together. My two favorite words."

She nudged him and snapped her jaws at his neck. "Of course I'm right, when aren't I?" she gave a bark and began to wag again. Perhaps the fight was over, at least it got their bodies moving and their hearts racing again. Now, as they settled down some, she was beside her mate again.
She wondered how much longer will they be able to do things like this. Having litters after litters, she wanted to if it made Yakuti happy, but she had no idea how many times before it begins to become troublesome. Someone was going to have to watch the pups at some point and she knew she wasn't all that good at it.
The last thing she wanted to do was disappoint Yakuti.
Nuzzling him semi-softly, she began to lean on him. However, smirking.
"We are now..."
