Celes Yes, Nobou Uematsu definately set the standard back in those midi days. To hear it orchestrated is amazing! What are some of your favorite songs? For me, its the orchestrated version of Aria de Mezzo Caraterre. With the real opera singer. *melts* And also, the vocal version of Terras Theme. Oh my god, its so beautiful. But going back to pure game music, I absolutely LOVE Techno de chocobo! And also The Magic Houses' theme, where you find Relm in the World of Ruin. So many good ones, hard to choose. The enchanted forest, and the ghost train, definately. 3nodding As for characters, you're absolutely right! 14 characters, all different and unique. The characters were one of the biggest driving factors in the game. And, at least for me, so easy to bond with.
I also like the Ghost train, Rachel's theme, Kefka's theme. . . um. . I don't know the name to a lot of them. >.< There's another I really like.
It's fun playing the Aria on the piano. . and Ghost Train. ^.^

Everyone seems to forget Ultro's theme. I loved that song! So upbeat and catchy smile

I'd love to be able to play that game. I've heard that FF IX is a "nod" to the pre-FF VII style. Whether it's true or not I can't tell.

FF9 tried to take it back to oldschool, and I think they did a really good job. Everything was really fun, and had that carefree adventure feel, while still developing the characters and story enough to hook you. It did have its flaws, which can be discussed at length. Haha. But FF9 is an amazing game, has the best ending, and BEAUTIFUL music. 3nodding
I love Ultros' theme too! Its such an adventure theme!

Celes FF9 tried to take it back to oldschool, and I think they did a really good job. Everything was really fun, and had that carefree adventure feel, while still developing the characters and story enough to hook you. It did have its flaws, which can be discussed at length. Haha. But FF9 is an amazing game, has the best ending, and BEAUTIFUL music. 3nodding I love Ultros' theme too! Its such an adventure theme! i think the best soundtrack to come from a ff game is a tie between ff6/3 and ffx

I liked Mog and Terra. Celes was pretty cool too

I have long said that FF6 is the best of all of them. ^_^ And even when people argue, when I start mentioning things from the plot, or characters... For the most part, they change their mind and say, "Oh, yeah! I forgot about that! That /was/ awesome!" ... The others are just beyond help. ^_~
My favorite character by far is Locke. But Edgar and Setzer both come very close! And Gau is so cute... They're all such tragic characters. I just now realized that none of them have had a... 'normal' life. Relm and Strago lost their family, Cyan lost his family, Terra lost her family and was an experiment, Celes was an experiment, Locke lost the love of his life, Setzer lost the love of his life, Gau's dad hates him, Shadow lost his family (kinda). Sabin and Edgar are probably the least traumatized of all of them, not counting Mog, Gogo and Umaro. ... Actually, if I were Umaro, I'd be pretty traumatized. These hairless short people come and steal his pretty stone, and then he's ordered to go on this flying ship to fight in battles with them by some white and pink fluffball. Raw deal. And Sabin did lose his master... Edgar did have to pretend to like the enemy... Kefka even got a raw deal. He was the first Magitek experiment... and it made him nuts. (or at least more nuts than he was before) And poor Leo... sad
Anyway... I wasn't intending to write an essay, so next topic!
The best song... I think the one I liked the best when I was playing the game on my SNES was the Grasslands theme. ^_^ I would sometimes just let the game run, just so I could listen to the theme. But I also like the Airship theme, Celes' Aria, The Magic House, Kefka's Theme, Mog's theme... there are so many great ones. Oh! Cyan and Shadow's themes. ^_^
When I played, I got all my characters to 99, with all the magic... it took a while. Fight cockatices for money, and fight dinosaurs for EXP. 3nodding I got to the end, fought and defeated Kefka, and I was like... "... That's it? ... There's gotta be more... Wow. That's really it." I actually had more trouble with Ultimecia than I did with Kefka.

No more adventures...no more locke...no more Celes...?" I left the tv on the "The End" screen for days, waiting for some secret message to pop up, just for me... Heh... The lovers, the dreamers and me....
