"I was a two legger's mount..." Colonel snorted softly, almost appalled that he had been used to the idea at any point in his life. "My two legger was injured when we went out to explore the land we had come to. I bolted when he fell of my back and no one except the Kawani came after me." He paused and looked over at her, ears perked wondering what she thought of him. Even Daisy had never asked about such things.

She mulled in silence for a while, stepping carefully. "I'm sorry to hear things began so roughly for you here," she replied after a time. Another pause passed before she continued. "I would assume life with the Kawani was more to your liking, than that with the other two-leggers?" She cast him an inquiring look. "I hope things have smoothed out for you since then."

Oddly enough, the more she walked on it, the more stable her fetlock was feeling. It didn't exactly hurt any less, but it felt less as if it were about to collapse. She could put a little more weight on it for a little longer. The scent of woodsmoke and humans drifted to her, and she turned to look ahead again with pricked ears. This was sure to prove intriguing. Another glance sideways at the stallion gave the thought a double meaning.

"Indeed, and it has smoothed out for the most part. I have three children, long since grown, and two I have not seen for quite some time." Colonel whickered softly, offering her a sort of smile. "Just showing my age, I suppose."

He sniffed the air, grateful to catch the scent of woodsmoke. It was nice to be back home after a good outing. "Just a little further, my two-legger lives toward the edge of the village."

She followed him sedately, limping along whilst considering what to say to his comment on age. It would have been one thing if he'd been a grizzled and graying oldster, but he was not. Aside from that, she saw no reason to distinguish one adult soquili from another according to how old they were or how many children they had. Quietly she absorbed his words concerning himself, letting his view of himself sink in. She always found it intriguing to listen and watch how others acted in reference to themselves. It often revealed much about them, without needing to grill that individual with delicate questions.

"Age is whatever you make of it," she finally responded, her voice quiet and steady. "Wisdom can reside in the words of the youngest colt, and foolishness can be found in an old and spiteful nag." They came within sight of the village, and she stopped, eyes wide and ears twitching to catch all the sounds. Her nostrils flared to better take in the scents that were all mixed together. What a place this was!

"I think I'd like to rest here for a moment, if you don't mind," she informed Colonel. Partly it was because her ankle was heating up, but also it was to give herself time to adjust to the new environment. She watched as dogs and children scurried around, screaming and barking and generally having what clearly was a good time. Female two-leggers chatted and worked with their strange hands, while males strode around and looked important. It really was rather mezmerizing. How odd to live among these creatures! "Are they always so busy?" she asked curiously, watching one industrious youngster chasing a chicken.

Colonel paused, waiting patiently for when she was ready to continue. "Indeed, I know I am no colt, but there is still much yet for me to see and learn." About many things. He watched her, amused by her reaction to the villagers. Maybe she hadn't been around many two-leggers before, if at all?

"When the seasons change, then it will slow and pick up again when the cold comes." The stallion's gaze turned to the village. This had been home for him so long now he could hardly imagine being anywhere else.

Having caught her breath and become at least somewhat accustomed to the noise and movement ahead of them, she limped on. The pain wasn't lancing anymore, but she could feelt much heat from it, and suspected it was swelling. She certainly hoped his two-legger could indeed do something to ease it. She swished her short tail and glanced towards the grasslands near the village, a waving plane of green. This wouldn't be such a bad place to stay for a while, until her fetlock healed. She knew better than to think it could be patched up swiftly and that she'd be able to go on her way.

"What do you call your two-legger?" she asked in the meantime, as she followed where he led. It seemed impolite somehow to keep referring to this person as just "two-legger". Everyone had a name, didn't they? She hoped it wasn't far, though. She was going to need another rest sooner than she'd thought. Apparently though it wasn't going to collapse on her, walking on the injured limb hadn't been the wisest choice.

"I call him 'Wind'." Colonel had named his two-legger that on the day they had met. He had been kept up with the stallion, despite his limitations. "We take care of each other." He trotted along at a gentle pace so she could keep up and eventually stopped in front of tepee, a small distance in from the edge of the village.

"Here we are."

She slowed and stopped hesitantly, eyeing the strange thing which she'd been seeing the two-leggers pop in and out of throughout the village. It didn't resemble anything she was familiar with... it stood tall, like a tree, but only had a few stubby branches up at the top, which were leafless. Then the sides of the thing belled and rippled with the breeze that ruffled the grasses nearby. She peered uncertainly at the dark hole that led to the mysterious interior of the thing, waiting for this Wind to blow out.

There was a rustling from within and after a few moments Niyol emerged. He was a fairly tall two legger, though slightly shortened from leaning a little on his walking stick until he got his balance again. "You came back...and not alone." He voice was deep, but gentle sounding.

The two-legger took a few steps toward Colonel and petted his muzzle lightly before turning his attention to Damara. "Hello there..." He held out a hand toward Damara, so she could could sniff and examine it.

"This is Wind, my two-legger." Colonel bumped his nose against the two-legger's hand in greeting. "He's just trying to say hello."

Cautiously, Damara extended her neck and flared her nostrils, not quite touching the hand extended to her. She inhaled in huffs, blowing warm breath against the two-legger's skin. He smelled harmless enough. Leather, plants, and a few other scents she couldn't quite name. Nothing to indicate he was threatening, no scent of blood. She gave a last blow of breath and delicately lipped his hand in greeting, moving another limping step nearer Wind.

"You brought a very pretty girl home, is she a friend?" Niyol smiled warmly and rubbed a hand over her muzzle. She reminded him of one of a forest creature, but with a better temper it seemed. He withdrew his hand and took a step back, looking her over throughly, only then noticing her favoring a hoof.

"Hurt yourself, have you?" His gaze drifted back to Damara's eyes. "I can help with this..."

Colonel whickered softly, though it sounded a little like a laugh. "I wish I could understand Wind sometimes...it might make things easier. He will help you, though it might take a little time, as you have seen it's harder for him to move."

She let the strange creature before her touch her, though her ears spoke of her continuing uncertainty. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, or Colonel. This was just so different, and her instincts were warning her of letting a two-legger so close.

Even so, she held herself still and watched as Wind looked her over. She glanced over at her companion when he spoke, uncharacteriscially showing her nervousness by the slight show of white around her eyes. "I certainly don't mind if he is slow. I much prefer slow to fast," she replied, switching her attention back to the gentle-handed human.

Niyol disappeared into the tent to gather flowers and things he would need to clean up the small wounds on her leg. It looked like one of those metal traps the settlers used had gotten a hold of her leg, thankfully not too well.

As an afterthought before he left the tent, he grabbed a couple apples from a basket, dropping them into a supply bag. They were some of the first apples of the new season, so they were a little small but hopefully the soquili would enjoy the treats.

"He does his best." Colonel turned his head and gave her a little nuzzle of reassurance. "Everyone is this village is good to our kind..." He righted himself after that, hoping the action would not be taken in offense. Damara was a strong able mare, he did not want her to believe that he thought otherwise.

She watched the human disappear again, and turned to regard Colonel. His nuzzle warmed her, helping her to relax more than his words ever could. She gave a faint appreciative sigh, her ears slowly becoming less rigid, and the white leaving her eyes entirely. She kept her weight off the swelling fetlock. Apparently it hadn't liked the pressure put upon it by the metal jaws of the trap. The scrapes now felt minimal compared to the heat and pressure of the injured joint. When the two-legger approached again, she lowered her head and relaxed herself further, though she still watched him, turning eyes and ears to follow his movements.

Colonel stepped forward and to offer Wind assistance, using his muzzle to support the two legger on his way to the ground.

Niyol offered an apple to the mare first, happy to see she had calmed down somewhat, and Colonel afterward. After that he shifted to settled himself on the ground. His movements were somewhat stiff but with Colonel's he managed to plunk himself down comfortably and he began to work.

He pulled a small carved wood bowl from his basket of supplies, along with a few small flowers and leaves and deposited them in the bowl. Then he fished out a river rounded stone from the basket and crushed the blooms and foliage into a pulp.

"This may sting a little..."

Niyol dipped two fingers into the pulp and reached over to dab it onto a cut on to the mare's leg that the trap had made.
