The gender of the percussionist doesn't matter; it's their skill level.

you should because what you said is so true. i'm on the drumline at my school during marching season and i got for alot of things that the other drummers did. i admit the section leader hated me but i stuck it out. and the drum major and the director said i was probably the best female bass drum player to play. but the guys did cause alot of drama on the line. and they ignored me and gave me all the ITTY BITTY percussion parts. is that fair i ask you of the band nerds guild??????????

I'm a girl drummer and if I had stayed out of band this term, my section would have fallen apart. As it is I have to take the entire snare line outside three times a week to learn their parts and theyre ALL guys. *death glares the cocky little snots*

im a percussionist in band(yes i probably spelled it wrong) and there is only 4 percussionists and 3 of them are girls (including me) the band teacher is always constantly yelling at the clairinets and trombones. but i think girl percussionist are helpful because some boys who were going to be in percussion are bad behaved and big jerks.that is the truth but im not mentioning any names. one of these guys is my exboyfreind and so i know what i mean.

This up coming marching season, our bass line is going to be all chicks. No doubt there will be a lot of drama, but I don't really get into that. sweatdrop

Aiight, well, I'm a female percussionist, and I think we're great help, there's no real difference between female and male percussionsts, I think. :l

You know, some of today's leading percussionists are women, and it seems they are heavily geared towards marimba. Keiko Abe, She-e Wui and Nanae Mimura stick out in my mind.
And then there's Evelyn Glennie. Could there possibly be any more of an amazing percussionist than her?
Point is: women are great percussionists. When it comes to marching in a drumline, girls just have to make sure they can physically handle workload of playing while wearing heavy equipment, and most of them can.
I was at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Columbus a few months ago and sat through the ENTIRE college division marimba solo competition. Out of about 30-40 contestants, only 7 or so were female. The winner was a girl wink

Hey our pit's all girls save for the one guy who's the most annoying out of all the rest, Drum line's got a pretty good mix of guys and girls though and we hardly ever hear any drama comin' from the percussion end to be honest it's usually in the other sections.

The three girls on our line, including me, work just as hard as the boys do.
