The best thing to do is ignore them. I get harassed for just being a Police officer. Like one of the officers I work with said to me " There not making fun of you, there just insulting your job. They dont know you or name or your family, they just hate your job."

@FWIW: They should make a TV show of that civilians trying to do military jobs. They should have to do the job for a month it'd be awesome to watch 'cause they couldn't take it.
Maybe they say the things they do because they're jealous because they know they could never do what you peoples do?

Panzer Jager Ok, so, I have a problem, and I am sure most of you have this same problem. Civilians who don't know what freedom cost's, and blame the military/government for whats wrong in the world. Well, this is what you get when you cross a U.S. Army soldier, ignorant civilians, and a really long day. Enjoy, tell me what you think. "Personally, as a soldier in the U.S. Army, alot of you ignorant fools piss me off. If only our government had some balls, it would suck to be you, the ones who say "drop your weapons, let them win." But, I guess I have to deal with it, don't I? I have to deal with your attacks against me, against my friends, my family? I guess I do. Thats why I get paid, to defend freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, habius corpus, the right to life. You all enjoy it so freely, yet, you forget who bought you those rights. Wasn't it the Continental Army, under Gen. George Washington who bled, and died, for your freedom of speech? The Devil Dogs of World War One, the war to end all wars, wasn't it they who died so you could practice your own religion? The right to vote? Maybe it was the sailors of World War Two, at Pearl Harbor, those men who were innocent of any crime, other than loving their nation, wasn't it they who were straffed, bombed, burned, and drowned, so you could burn the flag that they so valiantly defended? Maybe it was the Airmen of Korea, Veitnam, maybe it was they, who met they earth at high speed, their planes burning, their chute unresponsive. Maybe it was they, as the thought of their family's, the ones they would never see again, who paid for your right to harrass soldiers, mob their families, soil their graves? I guess you just don't know what it feels like, to buy other's rights, with your life. If you support YOUR soldiers, let us know, we appreaciate it. If you don't, may God help you, because I won't want to. But hey, it's my job." hey man im in the navy and theres alot of people used to the navy here in chicago because of recruits, but i tend to get alot of respect and they are used to us and i finally figured it out, its when you open a door unexpected for a person and they actually are nice to you so try that and if it dont work then i guess were you are at is where they hate military but just remind them that you volunteerd for the souls lost during 9/11 and many wars before you

You realize that the people whom are offended by your presence are also the type that "Can't believe you bought into that 9/11 Bullshit" and pretty much mock you over it. It's not worth our time to try to change their minds. Nor is it worth our energy to pound them into the ground like so many nails on a board.

I'm only an AFJROTC cadet, but I face this s**t everyday. People are always disrespecting me and my fellow cadets while we are drilling or in uniform, including while we are in parades! scream My Uncle faced the same stuff when he got back from Afghanistan. He saw a car with a bumpersticker that said " Murder is only legal when commited by the government". He waited for the owner and asked her if she spoke German. She said no, and he said," Thats because of people like me"

America, country of the free and ignorant, when civilians harass soldiers when it is the government's fault is completely unnecisary. My Uncled served in the US Army during Vietnam,he was wounded in action and shiped back to the states before he left they told him to wear civilian clothing at all times,he didn't understant what they meant and went back proudly wearig his uniform, when he got off the plane people threw rock, calling him a baby killer, and all sorts of other thing. This si a prime example of why civilians are dicks, you may not agree with the war, hell you can opose it,but when you see a soldier always show them respect, salute them for giving you the right and others to harass them and next time you try that, remember that they make it so you aren't living in a country of Communism or under a dictator,to have a say in the goverment, and so you can practice a religion freely and not fearing that the police will raid your house and have you hanged in public for being a jew,or a christian,or buddist or whatever,I don't support the decisionns we made in Iraq, but it is not the soldier's fault, they are doing their job so they can feed their family and put kids through colledge,so I always salute a soldier if I see one,and it would disgrace my family which has had people serve in the armed forces since the begining of this country

Violent crimes are natural in a society whose advances are limited by its technology. The basic behavior of the modern human is hardly different from that of its primitive ancestors. The only noticeable changes are trends. Whether in a suit, or in a loincloth, people are ignorant little thorns, cutting into each other. They seem incapable of advancing beyond the violent tendencies, which at one time were necessary for survival. I agree whole heartedly. As for protecting people, well that's a bit of a paradox-at least from what I know. I'm sure that if you searched into the lives of some of these victims, you would find out that they themselves were the cause of their very deaths. In those cases, the so-called "victim", at some earlier time, played some part in the creation of their "killer." I believe that the life ended was ended for the fact that it was wasted on something that would never evolve beyond the childish cruelty so many never cast off.

this is caused by the lack of patroitism caused by the underminding of our countries fighting force. when the media gets away with tring soldiers through the press, we lose. this all started when the allowed, for the first time, the press to take footage of the war in viatnam. that, in there mind gives them the right to prostitute the sacrifices soldiers make for more viewers or whatnot. they dont understand war, mental or physical. butas soldiers we just do our job and preserve the freedoms for the few who actually believe in them pirate

I'm Air Force. Though I haven't seen many people criticize me for what I've made a commitment to, I have seen many people thank me personally.
On several occasions, people have approached me and shook my hand or hugged me for volunteering. I must say, it brings a tear to my eye each and every time...

America is filled with smart-dumb people, spoiled people and just plain old idiots. I live in louisiana and far as iv seen.... military personnel are respected by most down here. Im not in the military but a LOT of people i am friends with and went to high school with joined up. (I graduated in '04) Not joining the military is something i regret and have felt guilty for since i finished HS but... i support the troops wholeheartedly. I constantly feel like i owe something (possibly because some members of my family served during WWII? IDK maybe i was supposed to join up cause its in my blood...?).... its hard to explain but i think im not alone in this... at least i hope not... Anyway, I am a civilian but if i EVER see anyone disrespect a member of the armed forces... I WILL, gladly break their jaw. You guys give up more than your share of freedoms so pieces of s**t like that can have the freedom to talk their s**t. Men and women DIED horrifically painful and horrible deaths so lil jimmy can sport the newest pair of nikes every month... AT THE VERY LEAST.... respect should be shown... not only to the men and women currently serving... but for what they stand for and those that gave there lives for those rights and privileges we civilians enjoy on a daily basis! When i see people talkin s**t on tv, or i hear about assholes being disrespectful...... i get soooo freakin pissed i could break a blood vessel.

Sometimes I have to wonder why American people are so rude to the ones defending them while they sleep safely. I come from a military family; I had two uncles in the Marines, one in the army, my great-grandfather served in the Navy in WW2, and I currently have two cousins in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, along with one who just got home from his tour in the Army, and it makes me so freaking pissed to know that people Don't Care! I mean it! I respect every single one of them over there and yet I see comments on how " They're causing a bigger bill for Americans to pay" and things like that. I've heard so many rude things about the military that I slugged one or two people at school and work because they didn't know what they were talking about! I mean really! I've never been in an airport and seen somebody walk up to a man or woman in uniform and go "Hey, thanks for everything you've done for our country." Yes, I've done it once, but why can't other people do it? Maybe if they get out there, they'll realize how much they really do deserve our respect and support.

My grandfather was in Vietnam. The way the civilians probably treated him badly when he returned. I assume this 'cause he isn't proud of serving there (put is still proud to have been a Marine). That and he might of been through some tough stuff... but he won't talk about it and I have do desire to ask him.
