Tammy ate her cake happily, being more careful to get it in her mouth than on her face than she had when eating lunch.
Astraea handed Carlisle his cake, and a fork as well. Shaking her head at Tammy's exuberant eating, Astraea sat back down by Bella.
"Many, many years I have lived, so I hope that I get it right with Tammy. You do well with Carlisle, so it would not be much of a stretch for you to do the same with your child."
Finishing her cake, Tammy licked her finger's clean. Turning to Carlisle, a big smile on her face, Tammy stood up and tried to tug on his hair.
"Go outside?"

He didn't notice Tammy standing up until she'd already tugged on his hair. "Ow," he whispered more as a reflex than any actual expression of pain, and he put his half-eaten cake to the side. "Outside," Carlisle agreed, brushing off his clean hands. "Wan' play?"
"He's so sweet, it's easy," she said. "But I'll take your word for it all the same." Bella leant over and picked up Carlisle's piece of cake, then placed it on the nearby table.

Tammy pushed on the back door, but it wouldn't open. Astraea rarely locked the back door, as the yard was enclosed and not easy to harm Tammy with any pointy objects but Astraea hadn't opened it since the night before.
"Momma, open!" Tammy called, and Astraea unlocked the back door.
Stumbling outside, Tammy giggled in the midday sun.
"Look, flowers over der. Pretty, only grow here. Magic!"
Tammy pointed over the lurid pink flowers growing in the corner. The backyard was much warmer than what it should be, and Tammy threw her cardigan on the lawn. Grabbing Carlisle's hand, Tammy smiled toothily. She only had a few teeth, but they were cute and white.
"Common. Flowers pretty!"

"Magic," he echoed, tossing his red jacket on the ground next to Tammy's cardigan. He still wore a lot- a black blouse and long red pants- but it was something else he didn't have to worry about getting dirty. He followed Tammy, but looked at the flowers. "Very pretty. Red?" Carlisle reached out towards the bright pink flowers, but didn't try to touch them. "No. They is pink. Tammy likes pink?"

Tammy knelt down next to the flowers, and breathed deeply. They smelled very nice, more like a lovely dessert than plants.
"I like pink. I like red. I like blue. I like... all?"
Tammy sat on the ground beneath the flowers.
"What you like?"

Carlisle sat with her, and nodded each time she read off a color. "I like red," he said, with a lilt at the end to reflect his relative unsurety. "Tammy also likes red." That he knew, because she had told him. "I remember. 'Kay?"

"kay." Tammy nodded, forgetting what they were talking about almost as fast as Carlisle said it. It was helpful that Carlisle said he would remember it for both of them.
"Moar magic." Tammy said brightly, a tiny figure on her finger. She showed it to Carlisle.
"See? Issa fairy. Momma likes to keep them, make flowers happy."
The tiny figure beamed at Carlisle, recognizing him as a boy, but not realizing he was a baby.

He hadn't seen a person so small before. So he smiled back at the 'fairy', practically glowing; Tammy was nice, the flowers smelled pretty and weren't dead, and now there was a little person. "I heared story 'bout fairies," he said. "Wanna hear't?"
