"Well, how many numbers are there? Because I'm not very good at learning their names. I mean, I can learn them. But I can't remember. There's no pattern."

Alamar hadn't got high enough before to note that twelve contained a 'tw' sound like two, to work out from that it was ten and two. And don't even think of the 'tw' and 'ten' in twenty.

"Numbers can go on forever. I only know a limited amount of course, only the ones my father knew. But I can work with those and things." She spoke slowly and hoped she wasn't confusing the cute little guy. "But don't worry about it, you'll understand better with age." Mia nuzzled him gently. "I'm sorry, you probably get grownups saying that all the time." She added, sympathetically. Thankfully, her father had treated her as wise when she was young, Mia had always been thirsty for knowlege.

"Yeah, it's annoying a bit, but I guess I'll understand when I'm older...like you grownups always say."

Alamar tilted his head, trying to imagine numbers going on forever. Except he had no idea what numbers looked like, so he ended up instead trying to picture things that go on forever. He kept thinking of things that didn;t, until...

"So it's like the horizon. It never ends, it just stretches so far we can no longer see it. Numbers never end - except only in one direction."

Smiling, the lioness nodded and looked impressed. "Yeah, that's right!" She loved how people could relate things to their own meanings, like she related everything to numbers, others could relate things to people or things in real life, or words or even music. She found this simply fascinating.

"Except, numbers can never end either way, but lets not get into that, it might be too complicated." She said gently.

"Wait, what?" It seemed like the younger lion did want to get into it, from the look on his face, about how numbers never ended either way. Everything had a start! How could numbers never end both ways? That was just, just....there was no way on earth was he supposed to remember them all but at least he could have learnt from the start and on a ways. But not both. That was so so so very unfair.

"So what's before zero then? You can't get less that zero, zero's nothing/"

Oh no. She didn't want to confuse the poor cub, and guessed that her teaching ability would now be questioned. "Um, well you see, instead of going up, the numbers go down in a pattern, but the numbers go higher the further along the left you go." She drew a series of lines in the ground with her paw. "Here is 0, and next to it on the left is minus one, then minus two." She moved her paw left and gave him an apprehensive and sweet look. "Basically its as if you've put a mirror through the number zero." She'd learnt a bit about mirroring from water, and glass, and hoped she was using the correct words. "Don't worry if you can't understand.." The lioness said kindly.

She giggled lightly. "Hey, Don't you think your mom will be wondering where you are?" She worried for a second.

[[We can bring it to an end now, if you want n__n They can meet again though! <3]]
