"Fair enough... As long as she doesn't say no." Evan studied the little boy and then shrugged. "Though I've gotta say most toys are more fun when you don't have to put 'em back together. Unless it's a puzzle." He grinned. "Though I'm not any good at puzzles. I don't have the head for it or something. What about you, Roth?"

Merroth did not know the word "puzzle" and tried to ignore it while simultaneously yearning to have its definition, especially if it was a new kind of toy he could break. "I have a head," he informed Evan fiercely, and thought Evan rather stupid for failing to realize he had a head, too. You needed a head to have eyes and nose and a mouth, how could Evan possible not realize his head existed?

Evan grinned, oblivious to the misunderstanding. "I should've figured you were a smart guy," he chuckled. "You're really clear about everything you want." He motioned towards a shelf filled with brightly colored boxes. "The puzzles are over there if you're interested," he added. Secretly, he was grateful that he had managed to talk Xi into stocking nothing with more than 100 pieces in the nursery. He had a feeling that Roth would like to play mix and match. "I don't know if you're more into animals or trains but we've got a couple pretty cool ones with space ships that I like."

Merroth did not know puzzles or trains, but he knew ships. He squinted in the direction of the boxes, looking for a dinghy or at the very least one of those ship-in-a-bottles he had broken. If there was a boat, maybe he could capture it like Nerys's tales of conquest on the high seas. It would give him something to boast about that might actually impress Generys.

Boy, was he going to be disappointed.

Evan followed the little boy's gaze and smiled to himself. Oh, this was much better. Crossing to the shelves, he crouched and touched the second shelf from the bottom. "Here they are, Roth," he offered. "Whichever one you like, have a blast."

Merroth studied carefully the little pictures on the spines of the puzzle boxes. "I want the ship one," he said sharply. He even knew all the parts on a ship, from the crow's nest to the rudder. He would demonstrate just how much he knew to Evan, thus proving once and for all that he was Master of All (Things Ship-Related). Since he didn't see any seafaring ships, he was beginning to think Evan really was criminally stupid, or worse: a girl. (Nerys and Black weren't girls, of course, they were something else entirely. Girls were Wisp the Rainbow Vomit and her mother Beatrix the Infinite. Girls were icky.)
