well it does but the thing is that the ship is kryptonian and it had been under the red sun and so it neutralized that tiny little piece of kryptonite but i couldnt handle as much as the kryptonite key. but the ship didnt neutralize lana's necklace to save clark it was to save itself.

Being a HUGE Superman fan for my entire life, I wanted to say a few things in regards to what was being asked.

Superman's vision. In the comic books, Superman can use his Xray vision, his heat ray vision, as well as telescopic vision and night vision. He can also see things in an ultraviolet spectrum, infrared and electromagnetic spectrums.

As far as Superman's powers and how they work, the explanations have been changed so many times it would be hard to get two people to agree on any one thing. When Superman first came out it was determined that all Krytonians had super powers on Krypton, but then it was said Krypton's gravity was intense and led to the super strength and the ability to "leap" tall buildings in a single bound.

But it eventually was changed to Earth's Yellow sun reacting with Superman's biochemistry to give him his abiities, which is when his "leaping" tall buildings, became flying. His body basically was said to act like a battery, soaking in and storing the sun's ray's to give Supers his powers. (Which is why Superman can use his powers at night and fly across the galaxy.) Over the years, this one has stuck.

Smallville seems to be going with the Earth's Yellow Sun explanation.

On the subject of Kryptonite, it wasn't always harmful to them. When Krypton was destroyed, the debris became radiated. (And who knows how much radiation it had been bombarded with traveling across the galaxy.) It's the radiation that weakens Superman, not the contents of the rock. This radiation also effects people, Lex Luthor had cancer from wearing his Kryptonite ring constantly over the years.

This seems to be the same kind of explanation in Smallville. For example, when Clark arrived the radiation from the Meteor rocks, caused seemingly random mutations in a portion of Smallville's population. Also, the Kryptonite key's radiation affected the internal circuitry of the ship, which is why it overloaded and blew up.

Just wanted to clear up any confusions, but for the most part when your dealing with comics it just depends what era you're talking about in regards to his powers and how they work.

The above is a generalization of ALL ages of Superman. There were basically three explanations of Superman's powers. (I you really wanna get technical there was a lot more than that, but the BIG three were the most widely accepted and built upon. biggrin )

Superman started out as just having a few powers, the vision, the strength, speed, invulnerability and the ability to jump really high! By around the mid 80'2, Superman was almost a God. Then the comic companies wanted to tone it down, and clean up the continuity, so they invented the Crises on Infinite Earths, in order to get one version of each character. And Superman was knocked back down a peg. But over the years he built back up to his almost godlike self. He's even come back from the dead..........

Well if you wanted to stick with the general "canon" the only thing that would matter by today's comic standards would be the post infinities explanations. Which is that Superman is fueled by Earth's Yellow Sun. And that Kryptonite is radiated pieces of Krypton.

And I don't know if you realize it or not, but your comming off as highly defensive and hostile when there is no need to be. If you aren't interested in discussing Superman and Smallville with me...I'll be happy to STFU and leave.
