In doubt, your friends are always there......

Oh my gosh, so many of you are right and observant!!! To yusukekidsister11, YOU, my friend, have GREAT eyes. I didn't notice have that stuff.....Just 'cuz I get too absorbed, I think. XD

Also, to ecurran1, when you said, "I think the character designers did this purposefully since Hiei has somewhat less screen time so he was more recognizable with the viewers." I don't think it would be that hard to spot Hiei: He's short, has REALLY tall hair, and carries around a katana. XD [Not bashing him, he's one of my fav characters in YYH. ^.^)) And his swords ARE neverending!!!!

...Although they may "bite" at times.....

Just something I had to make comment on your awesome observations....

Ok so Yusuke started out in like a mini house thing [typical Japanese space] and then it got set on fire before he returned to life, ever sence then we see his apartment.

I don't know where Atsuko is in all this but then again where does Yusuke get all the money for his cloths [both his casual T-Shirts and his more formal sports jackets like the one he wore to visit the spirit detective from before Sensui] ? What does Atsuko do for a job that would sustain Yusuke and herself for as long as it has?

Yusuke has some pretty good variety in his on-sombile for a kid from a single mom who appears never to work [but is seen going to a bar even, and drinking at home WHERES THE BOOZE MONEY?]
****

Also on the same vein as this, What does Shiori do for a living that would help a single mother in Japan hold and keep enough land to have a cherry tree in the backyard?

****

I'm sure at some point either Hiei had a contact in the demon world OR perhaps the Spirit world [as part of the agreement of general Hiei-ness] to supply him swords. If not he's magic and thats a fun thing to try and fit into the YYH-verse.

Well, the thing with the anime is that they don't explain as much as the manga does. Granted, the manga never really "explains" anything about what Yusuke's mom does for a living, however, you see enough things for hints (even just her living arrangements) to suggest that she might be involved with the Yakuza some how. There is evidence of this in volume one of the graphic novel on page 14. Keiko is speaking with her friends after they are finished hiding from Yusuke and she says: "I'll admit he's antisocial, gets into fights a lot, and some shady characters do visit his house pretty often." There is also a panel in volume three of the graphic novel page 33 Yusuke narrates: "It wasn't easy getting me back in school, but apparently Ma was up to the challenge. She told me the principal was moved by her tears... But according to Keiko, a lot of big black cars were parked around the school that day, so I bet the tears were on the principal's face." You see Yusuke's mother leaning over the desk at the principal dressed in an almost formal kimono and there are two large looking men with intimidating faces behind her. The back of the Principal's head is covered in sweat.
Those two things alone make me really sit up and go, "hey wait a minute, something doesn't smell right here." Even Yusuke seems to know of his mother's dealings, but they are never spoken aloud. There is also the matter that Yusuke(as only seen in the manga, I will find the scan later) DOES have a father, he could be paying some kind of child support to Atsuko.
The problem with the anime is that much of this information is changed or omitted. If Atsuko DOES have shady dealings with the Yakuza in the anime, Yusuke doesn't seem to know about them. His reaction to seeing the new apartment after the fire is: "WOW, Mom must have had some good fire insurance!"(quoted from the English dub, if you want the Japanese I will get it later). So I mean, hey, maybe she had AWESOME fire insurance and could get an apartment as well as new clothes and things for Yusuke. However even that really doesn't make a lot of sense, Yusuke and his mother were living in the equivalent of low income housing in Japan, so why would she have so much insurance on it? I really do think it is some how Yakuza involved, even in the anime, it's just never brought up... the manga is the one that makes it a tiny bit more obvious.

When it comes to Kurama's mom, being able to keep a house like that. You have to remember, "Shuichi's" father passed away. More than likely there was a will involved and everything was pressumably left to Shiori to help her care for the infant. That, and she DID continue to work. She had a job at a small company, that's how she met her second husband Hatanaka. So a steady income, combined with an inheritance, would allow her and Shuichi to live in such comfort for years.

With Hiei, well knowing him you could be right, there probably was a contact involved somewhere along the way. Of course keep in mind that Hiei was also a thief and a bandit. He was raised by them after all. So many people are so marveled by the fact that golden boy Kurama was a thief, that they forget Hiei was in the same trade. So it would be to my understanding, that if one of his weapons were to break, he would find a way to steal a new one.

I agree (if I'm correct in thinking that the Yakuza is some sort of Japanese mafia), and it makes me wonder if Japan has some form of the American welfare. I honestly have no idea, but maybe someone else here does, because I'm sure they'd qualify. I know Atsuko parties a lot, but I don't think she's a prostitute and probably not a drug dealer either, so those are really the only solutions that make sense.
Plus, it's not stated in either (I think) but after the Dark Tournament, maybe Atsuko gets a job, seeing as she's not around as often as she was before. It doesn't explain how they got the apartment, but it explains how they kept it.

Yes, I remember something along those words, and during the first round of the DT, when Roto threatens Kurama's mother and it shows her, she appears to be walking into an office of some sort, which could explain it.

Because Hiei learned sword fighting from Shigure, it's possible that Shigure had a contact who would regularly give him swords, and that's who Hiei went to. But I otherwise agree, because for the main during the plot he couldn't return to the Makai, so he probably had to steal swords. I'm sure you can get antiques in Japan easily, but perfectly restored ones? Probably...then again, during the DT, after fighting Kuromomataru (how the HELL do you spell that?) his sword was broken, and I think he got a new one, in less than a day. (Possibly shorter.) So he might be magical, also. XD

Yeah, I remember watching the Dark Tournament and seeing Hiei pulling out a sword after his last one broke an being like "Wait wtf?" But then being forcefully distracted by his predominant hotness. XD

All right, now that I have that fan-girl moment out of me (lol) I do believe Hiei would just steal a sword if he needed one. Seeing as he was pitted in the middle of fighters, I'm sure there was at least ONE other swordsmen at the tournament. I don't think he'd have much trouble, or a conscience, stealing one.

Hiei and his infinite supply of swords XD

And Yusuke.does he carry gel with him? One second his hair is down (it looks better that way!) then it's slicked back...without any visible signs of gel..How ....does he have magic spit?

Yeah, but where would he get swords? Actual, useable swords? I mean, maybe in Japan...but they'd have to be balanced, strong, relatively new, and he would have to have a way to sharpen them (unless he carried some sort of whetstone with him...) and all that jazz.

You know what bugs me? I have never, in any canon ever, seen a sword that looks authentic. Know why? Real swords (and knives) that are made by pounding metal over and folding it over itself (which is the best way to make such items, as far as I'm concerned) have ripples in the blade; little black and gray waves instead of a smooth silver. The only canon I've heard have anything close to this was A Game of Thrones, which is a fantasy book by George R.R. Martin (a great read, if I might add.)

Oh, and eartian: I don't know about magic spit, but he will use whatever he can to gel his hair. For instance, in the second volume of the manga (it wasn't in the anime,) he gets hit over the head with a wine bottle that had some remaining. He used that to messily smooth back his hair. XD

*grabs that volume of YYH off her bookshelf and looks (i only have the first 4..*sigh*) Ah so he does! XDDDD hahaha xDDD *dies laughing*

I kind of payed more attention to the aftershocks of Hiei's sword than the sword itself. but I know what you're talking about with the waves. Me and my dad went somewhere and they had katanas and I noticed one had theses weird blackish waves near the edge. He was gonna buy it too crying but he didn't...

Yusuke is a slave to fashion...well...stuff he thinks is cool at least, in case you've noticed.

The first comment he made when he found out Shorin was Randou:
"Yeah, if you're going to disguise yourself, why not look cooler?"

*sighs* v_v;

Haha...he looked like a monk/nun thing. It was so freakin' adorable! >w<

*Randou pops up from ground*

Ew! Get away! D<

Shorin was adorable. I wanted to take him home, put a leash on him, and feed him dog biscuits. XD

Thank you for sparing my little virgin ears. ; D

Nah, Kuwabara would be funner on a leash. Probably because he acts so much like a pup already. It's strange he likes cats. o--o; Oh and is scared of mice, I think that's why he has a cat. What's her name? Eikiechi?

My Kuwabara Sim, he has a goldfish names Eikiechi. I couldn't get him a cat, so yeah. : D
PostPosted: Sun Aug 16, 2009 9:08 pm

It's spelled Eikichi I believe..maybe..

Oh and I've seen Yusuke spelled Yuusuke..is that right?

Like I can't stand when people spell Youko Yoko XD Or Keiko Kayco...i think that's how the english spelling is..some nonsense like that XD

Kuwabara should be a gold fish whee Then Hiei could be a black cat! Yusuke could be a dog! And Kurama would be a ....venus fly trap XDDD

Yeah, I can't stand weird English spellings either, though sometimes I slip up with Youko. v_v;

Eh...Hiei wouldn't want to be a black cat, and its a little too infamous for its mystery. Hiei is stoic and mocking and impatient, but not mysterious so much...Hiei would love to be lion I think. : D

Kurama's too perfect as a fox. Sorry, he just is. Lol XD

And Yusuke's a little blue penguin remember? XD
