The Finding....

A gentle snow was blanketing the land around the shine Sirene stood under. Her blue eyes were cast skyward as her hand rested on her beloved sword. Years of training had taught her to not only respect the simple and beautiful gifts Mother Nature but to also keep on guard at all times. Still, the light grey sky, the white ground, and the snow covered trees made it hard to focus on anything else but the nature around her.

Far above the unknowing Sirene, a messenger of above struggled to make it threw the falling snow. It was the same destiny of any being who delivered a message from above. Still, as the angel felt her wings falling to the ground with the snow, the built up determination inside of the small body made it push on. There was some hope left if it could just get to a safe place. Yet the snow blanketed ground made it hard to see what was a safe landing place and what wasn’t. Then it hit the messenger. Too many feathers had fallen from the wings to keep the being in the air.

Sirene had made her way down the steps of the shine and stood just above the ground level. Something insider her wouldn’t let her disturb the quiet and peace all around her but something else told her that she was about to being involved in something she wasn’t prepared for. That one feeling had caused her to go even more on guard than normal.

It was then that something caught Sirene’s attention from the corner of her eye. Turning her head to face it, a bright, sliver light appeared out the of clouds and was quickly falling to Earth. “A shooting star?” She questioned as her brows furrowed slightly as the light disappeared behind the trees. Was this causing the mysterious feeling of unease? Only one way to find out.

Deep in the woods, something out of this world was taking place. Slowly being covered by a pile of snow, the messenger refused to give up hope of making it somewhere safe but the cold wind had blown off the rest of its feather. Forced to remain on the ground, the messenger tried to stay awake, to wait and see what would happen to it. Still, with its strength fading fast, sleep soon claimed it.

Sirene stood in the center of a large, wooded area. Her eyes were shut as she listened for sounds of the forest. She was looking for something, anything to lead her to what caused such a light in the sky. Her ears never found a sound but the crashing of a branch under the weight of the snow.

As the woods once again fell under the silence of winter, Sirene opened her eyes and looked around. Nothing, at least, until she spotted something lying on top of the snow, some how remaining uncovered. Moving towards it, she picked it up. A feather and not just one. A trail of them dove deeper into the woods drawing the young woman’s attention towards the source of them.

The sleep of death was cold, increased by the falling snow but the small figure refused to fall once again into the trap death laid before it. Fighting for something, anything, to cling to, it reached out only to find air and snow. This couldn’t be the end. One more reach and the hand wrapped around something hard and solid. Opening the lifeless eyes, it looked upon the blackness of a sheath before looking up at the woman who stood before it, holding the weapon and wearing a smile on her face.

Suddenly, the messenger started to glow. The glow increased until the sword was also shining brightly in the snow. Moments later, the fallen one fell once more, the sword gone and the woman standing over it. She leaned down and ran a hand over the face of the fallen before her. “Rest. I will find you a place to stay.” She whispered kindly as she threw her cloak over the creature.

...and a new life

A welcome warmth...

A warm fire was lit next to the blonde haired woman. Before her, a spread fit for a queen, or at least, a noble woman. Plates were piled high with meats, cakes, all different types of greens and salads as well as fish. Yet, on the single plate before the woman, only a small serving of fish as well as green beans.

Her eyes were closed as her head was bowed. Slowly her mouth moved to form a single word “Amen.” Picking her head up, she started on the simple meal she had served herself while a pair of men stood near the wall. They were looking from the woman sitting there back to each other before sighing. Always their lady would be given a feast and always she would only eat a small amount. The rest would then be given to the shelters for their meals at night. Why she did this, no one in her service or family knew. Still, it was who she was.

Suddenly, a log in the fire dropped causing the girl to pick up her head and stare into the blaze. The warmth and glow of the fire brought about a feeling inside of her, a feeling she couldn’t identify. Slowly, her body became cold but mentally, she had no notice of it as her mind had gone elsewhere.

She was back in the snow. Back out in the woods were she had been this afternoon. Her temple, her sanctuary. It was the place she could escape everything she was and everything she wished she wasn’t. Still, it wasn’t there her mind rested. That small creature. That white haired, pale skinned winged creature.

Sirene had left it in the snow as she was terrified to move it. Yet, she had used her cloak to cover it after it had taken her sword. With both missing, she had raised a good many eyebrows upon returning to her family’s home. Still, she didn’t have to answer for them and she wouldn’t. They would never understand her.

“My Lady?” Came a male voice that caused Sirene to blink. Looking back over, she realized that she had gotten from her chair and was now standing just feet from the fire. “My Lady, are you alright?”

“Yes.” Sirene said as she glanced towards the window. Snow was still falling but now, it was almost like a blizzard out there. Any life should have taken cover from the cold and found shelter. But that creature couldn’t move, let alone avoid this cold. Would it still be there? Yet alone, was it still alive?

“I’m retiring for the night. See that the food is saved and give as soon as the storm clears.” Sirene called out as she turned from the fire, and left through the wood doors. As she heard the two men move behind her, she quickly turned from the hallway down to the lower stairs. This was not the way to her room but to a chamber she had used for years. Within it, she kept most of her items as well as a stock of money that she was able to access after the death of her parents.

A few moments later, Sirene had pretty much packed everything in her small room into a trunk and moved it towards the edge of the room. Pulling on a white cloak from the hook, she returned to the hall way. Tonight, that being would decide her fate.

It didn’t take long before she had found her way to the temple. Years of traveling there made it possible for her feet to simply guide her there even when her eyes were useless. From there, it was something else that led her to the rest of the way. Her path from before was completely covered but she remembered standing there and seeing the feathers. She remembered passing the old wolf’s den not to far from the clearing, and she remembered the fallen oak just before spotting…

“Oh no!” Sirene called out as she leapt over the oak and into the clearing. There, just visible by the small black corner was the cloak she had left. It hadn’t moved but was quickly being covered by a large layer of snow.

“Please, be alive.” She called out as she quickly started to throw the snow off the cloak to pull it up.

Breathing hard, Sirene felt her heart stop for a moment as there, almost matching the snow around it, was the being from before. Reaching out slowly, Sirene could feel the cold raising from the small creature. “I’m so sorry I left you.” She cried out as she moved quickly to pull off the white cloak she was currently wearing and wrapping it around the creature. It was small and light in every way she could imagine so it made it easy for her to lift into her arms. “I promise you, you will make it.” Sirene whispered as she quickly moved through the snow into a new life for both her and the being she vowed to protect.

...and starting over

A little costume fun...
LOOKIT ME! I AM A HERO/VILLIAN!

Herald: Yuki
Hero-Villian: Sailor Mars/ Rei Hino
Appearance Changes:Four outfit choices:A miko outfit, A school uniform, A princess dress , and A sailor outfit
Acquired Traits: Control over Fire and a Psychic ability
Why this character?:
While it did take me awhile to decide which hero/villain Yuki appeared to reflect, I believe Sailor Mars is an excellent image of her. Grace and beauty are traits both women possess even if Yuki is still growing into her own person.

Something both women also share is their strong distrust of almost everyone. Rei only possessed a small group of friends as well as her beloved crows. Yuki, so far, only has her guardian but even Sirene had a good deal of trouble winning over the trust and respect of the young fallen angel and sometimes, one can’t be sure if Yuki trusts her guardian or just puts up with her as she has no where to go. Yet, Yuki’s loyalty is unbreakable to those she has given her trust to, much like Rei. For Rei Hino, she would do anything in her power to protect those she loves including her grandfather and the other Sailor Senshi. Yuki is much the same way but who she protects currently is herself manly herself but she will step in and try will everything she is to protect Sirene as well.

Another reason why Rei was chosen was because of Yuki’s sharp tongue. To match the wings, Yuki can be very blunt but at the same time, graceful with the words she picks to express herself and her views on something or even someone.

Yet, something strange that truly stood out to me was Rei’s choice to remain single as she took a vow of such to her princess in one life time. While I pray that Yuki does not take this vow as well, the young girl has never expressed an interested in the usual love of “love” that most females, no matter what the age, possess. Instead, Yuki gives herself over to her practice of swords while Rei appears to study to become a priestess.

Yuki is a natural leader as she isn’t afraid to take chances and yet, protect those with her. Rei, being second in command of the Sailor Senshi, has many of the same traits but, as they both are, Rei and Yuki would rather face the danger alone than drag anyone, even enemies into a place where they could be hurt.

Looking past her personality, Yuki and Rei have a few similar traits as well. For a background, well, even if Yuki remembers her own, the young angel refuses to speak of it where as Rei’s mother died leaving only her and her political, workaholic father. But as to Rei, her past also is part of being the Princess of Mars. If Yuki was some form of royalty, no one is truly sure.

Both of their favorite colors are black and Yuki does like red a little, though she is more in favor of white. As for subjects of interest, both share a love of history, the classics and the past. Yuki’s favorite is more of the history of martial arts while Rei is over all.

A lesson to learn...

It's now time for your Herald to learn about the birds and the bees- and how hard they sting! What a neglecting guardian... How does your Herald react to a bee-sting, and how did it happen?

Night was just starting to take the sky as the young fallen angel stood at the backdoor to her home. Creatures of the night were just starting to make their calls to each other as those of the day headed for home. Yet this being of both the day and night had her eyes on a certain bush she waiting for just the right moment.

The moment came quick enough as the sun kissed the horizon. As quick as a blink, a flash appeared and disappeared just in the distance. That was her cue.

Jumping up, Yuki grabbed the jar that was resting next to her and took off towards the bush. With each passing moment, more lights flickered on and off around the body of the angel. Yet she remained quiet as she took the top off the jar. She had one chance before they would all break and she would have to wait for another night. Timing was everything…

SNAP!

The jar shut around the small creature as the others flew off towards other bushes. Yuki’s face wore a smile as she held up the glass jar to watch it shine. Yet, no light came from the bug.

Shaking it for a moment, she walked back towards the house and the light from the windows. Holding up the jaw, she noticed something black and yellow in the jar.

“You aren’t a firefly.” She sighed opening the jaw and turning it upside down to shake out the bug. Yet, it wouldn’t move. “Oh get out of there!” She called out turning it right side up and shaking it again. This time, the bug did fly out and start buzzing around the angel’s head. It wouldn’t leave her alone until it landed on her shoulder and…

“AH!”

The scream caused a the door to slam open as a blonde haired woman stood, her eyes wide as she looked for her daughter.

“It hurts!” Yuki cried out, tears in her eyes but her stubborn ways refusing to let her cry as her hand covered her shoulder.

“What happened?” Sirene asked leaping down the steps of the door and scooping up her daughter to bring her inside and look at her shoulder as it grew red.

“This yellow and black buzzing thing stung me.” She whispered out making Sirene put her down.

“A bee?” Sirene said looking outside. It was late and she was amazed one would still be out. Yet, it wouldn’t the first time something made her wonder since she found Yuki. “Come on. Let’s take care of it.” She spoke with a smile as she walked towards the kitchen and grabbed some baking soda and vinegar.

“What are you doing with that?” Yuki cried out as she backed away from Sirene who came to reach her.

“I’m going to get that stinger out and stop the pain.” She said reaching down and picking up her angel to place her on the counter. “Now, hold still and move your hand.” Sirene said pulling her hand away and dumping some baking soda into her hand. Placing some onto Yuki’s shoulder, she brushed off the rest into the sink and grabbed the vinegar. “Now this might sound strange.” She laughed before letting a few drops fall onto it as it started to bubble.

“What?” Yuki asked looking at it as it bubbled and popped on her shoulder. “What is it doing?”

“Taking out that stinger. You were stung by a bee so this should help.” She smiled and placed Yuki back on the floor. “Now, leave that on until your bath. It will harden but let it be.” Sirene called out as she watched Yuki run back out into the back yard to try her luck again.

Within moments, Sirene was peacefully reading before she was jarred up again by another…

“AH!”

To take flight...

Time has passed almost like a dream. The winter snow was no longer and in it’s place, the warmth of the sun and the new growth all around the small home Sirene and her herald, Yuki shared. But this day, no joy or laughter was being shared between the two females.

“MOMMA!”

The scream ran through the house causing Sirene to drop the plate she had been washing so carefully and run out of the run. Just before the plate hit the ground and shattered, Sirene was leaping up the stairs. Throwing open Yuki’s bedroom door, Sirene looked around for any sign of danger.

“It hurts…” Yuki’s voice was broken by tears and sobs. She was laying on her stomach, chewing on the edge of her pillow and her small nails digging into the side of her bed. Anyone who knew the small Herald knew that tears were not her. She could be in complete pain and still not shed on. The bee sting had taught Sirene that.

But this was completely different. The young herald was in tears and the reason wasn’t showing itself, at first.

“Yuki, talk to me.” Sirene whispered as she quickly crossed the room and sat on the edge of Yuki’s bed. Reaching up, she brushed some of Yuki’s long hair out of her face to find her head covered in beads of sweat. “Yuki, what happened?” Her voice was more concerned than it had ever been as her hand brushed down Yuki’s neck and back.

“ACK!”

The scream Yuki gave out was confirmation enough for the female guardian. Standing, up, Sirene grabbed the top of Yuki’s night shirt and pulled with all over her strength.

There, appearing out of Yuki’s back was two large bumps that appeared to want to break her daughter in half.

Worry appeared on Sirene’s face as she glanced from one side to another. In honesty, she had no clue what was going on but just knew that Yuki was in so much pain. But the pain was over taking the small herald and now, she had to at least try and make her comfortable.

Standing up, Sirene ran out the room and down into her own bedroom. From her wooden closet, she pulled an old leather belt and ran back out of her room.

Back in Yuki’s room, she knelt down before the small girl.

“Yuki, open your mouth and bite on this. I don’t want you to bite your tongue.” Sirene whispered as she held out a part of the belt to the little girl.

Yuki’s eyes opened softly as her deep blue eyes met Sirene’s. Slowly, she let go of the pillow in her mouth and sunk her teeth into the soft leather just as another shock of pain shot through her body and sent her nails digging into the bed.

Sirene looked up once more just to see the bumps on her back getting bigger. Suddenly, a small trail of blood ran down the girl’s back. The source was soon seen as a small cut that almost flashed silver.

“Hang on Yuki.” Sirene whispered before disappearing again.

Please stop the pain…momma…
Yuki shut her eyes tightly as she felt another blast of pain through her back. She felt like a complete wuss but she couldn’t help it. The tears just continued to run down her face. But something wet fell onto her back. Snapping her eyes open, she realized that what she felt was a soft cloth Sirene had gotten and placed on her forehead. Another one was running across her back to cool the pain.

“It’s alright Yuki. I’m here and I won’t leave you.” Sirene smiled weakly as she pulled the cloth from her back and ran it through a bowl of warm water again before putting it back on her back.

With a small nod, Yuki closed her eyes and started to wince again as Sirene brushed her hair.

---
Hours passed by with the mother and daughter pair sitting like this. Dusk was falling and Sirene knew that Yuki was wearing out. Over the day, the bumps had increased in size and more trails of blood had started to run down her back. But still, it wasn’t over yet but the time was coming.

With Yuki laying on the bed, gasping in pain, Sirene stood up to go and empty out the now cold water and replace it with warm again.

Just as she was coming back up the stairs, Sirene’s ears heard a scream that made her blood run cold.

“Yuki!” Sirene called out rushing back into the room in time to see Yuki sitting up in bed, her arms wrapped around her shoulders.

In what felt like a life time, Yuki let out one more, blood curling scream as she arched her back and Sirene watched the events unfold. From the small child’s being, two large, silver objects flashed out of her body coming with blood as well.

As quickly as they came, Yuki was back on her bed, panting, sweating and exhausted.

“Mom.” Yukie cried out seeing Sirene standing there before passing out into a deep sleep she needed more than anything.

Sirene was frozen for a moment before she crossed the room and took a look at the silver and red wings. Grabbing the cloth, she reached to clean her herald’s back and new wings. But, just as she reached across, Sirene pulled her hand back, her own blood running down her finger. “Ow…”

Looking at Yuki’s body and wings, she realized that at the base of each wing was half of a yin-yang. Eyes wide, she realized that these wings were a reflect of the sword that the angel had taken.

“Well now, aren’t you a little weapon.” Sirene laughed before moving to be more careful in cleaning.

Something broken...

“Yuki, darling, could you come here please.” Sirene’s voice called up the stairway that led towards the angel’s room. As soon as her voice rang out, she could hear the tiny footsteps of the girl up there leaping from her bed and walking across the floor to the flat opening that served as a divider between her room and the rest of the house.

Slowly, a shadow of the tiny girl appeared falling down the stair was as Yuki’s light eyes looked at her guardian with a wondering look. Still, the fact that her wings looked a little flat and not their normal raised, ready to slice appearance told the woman that she had taken Yuki away from something. With a smile on her face, Sirene leaned forward, using the hand rail and the wall to keep herself up.

“Yuki, go pack a bag for the weekend. You and I are taking a little trip. Make sure the clothes are comfortable.” She added with a wink before turning to walk back to her own room where a small bag lay unzipped on her bed. Next to it, two long items were wrapped in cloth. A smile was on the woman’s face as she reached out and took hold of the larger one. Slowly removing the cloth, Sirene revealed a black sheath and sword to match. The hilt of the sword fit perfectly in her hand as she picked up the sword and sheath. Quickly, a sly smiled appeared on the woman’s face as she drew the sharpened blade, dropped the sheath and lined the blade up perfectly in her sight. “It is the perfect time.”

Yuki stood in her room, looking at her closet where most of her clothes hung. Hands on her hips, she hated admitting that this sudden surprise had taken her completely off guard. Sirene had never done anything like this before. Every trip they had gone on, mostly two and from small temples and such, had been planned out long before hand as to ensure that they were respectful. Yet this was a shock. Leaning her head to the side, the angel hated to admit it but she wasn’t sure what to pack. It was early in the afternoon on a Friday so she guessed that meant she needed at least two days worth of clothes. Yet what?

After twenty minutes, way too long spent on packing in Yuki’s mind, she had decided on bring two of her white dresses and then two pairs of the soft, stretchy pants Sirene had gotten her not long ago. Quickly placing them in her small, blue duffle bag, she grabbed the white bear that rested on her bed as well as the small chapter book she begged Sirene to give her. Child or not, the children’s books had no point to her.

Dragging the bag down the stairs, Yuki was met with a smile from her guardian who had just finished locking the house. “Ready?” She smiled reaching out to take the angel’s bag and walking towards the front door.

Yuki was completely confused now. The aura she got from the woman was of pride and happiness but about what, she had no clue. Best to wait and see. She sighed walking after Sirene and hopping into the car.

The drive was long and the landscape changed greatly. All around, buildings of their home town faded behind them and trees became the new sky scrapers and small animals, the inhabitants. Yet what caught Yuki’s attention the most was that the farther they drove, the more it appeared they were going up and down hills. Her ears needing to ‘pop’ was the true test to that feeling of the ever changing landscape. But when she set her eyes on Sirene, the woman seemed to be beaming with a strange glow the girl had never seen before.

Sirene drove the same path she had known since child hood. There was little to know doubt in her mind that this route had confused the child next to her but she had her own reasons why she was keeping the location from her ‘daughter’ and all was to be revealed.

The road they were one was quickly becoming completely deserted and soon, became a one way, dirt path leading into what appeared to be an almost mountain-like area. Still, it was only hills but to anyone first seeing them, they were huge. Yuki looked from the trees down to the road and something caught her eye as they passed. She didn’t have a chance to look back at it but as they went forward, she saw more and more on each side of the path. Stone figures were lining then road and coming up before them, one in the direct center.

“Sirene…” Yuki spoke, for the first time being a little nervous as her guardian did not slow. Instead, Sirene smiled and pulled to the left of the statue where she hit the brakes and placed the car in park just outside of the view of the road.

“I had hoped you might sleep this ride.” Sirene admitted as she opened her door and slid out into nature. There was a smile on her face as she looked around them. Memories were flooding back to her. “But now that we are here, we have a bit of a hike before we reach our destination. Grab you bag.” Her smiled throwing her own bag over her shoulder and starting for the woods across from the center statue.

Yuki followed her guardian, the entire time, giving Sirene’s back nasty looks for making her walk in the woods. Why were they hiking? Where were they? And what in the world was that huge stair case they were coming up to.

Before the pair, a giant stone stair case rose up the side of a large hill. Before it, an orange gate marked with strange symbols stood as their welcome.

“Come on. We are almost there.” Sirene beamed out as she shifted her bag up to her shoulder and took off on a very high spirited run up the side of the stairs. The blue eyes of the guardian glanced back every now and then to meet Yuki’s own. The girl seemed out of breath but was keeping pace pretty well with the help of her sharp wings catching the light every now and then. But it was Yuki’s face that made Sirene laugh slightly. The girl was really smiling. She had feared that Yuki would hate it from the moment they got there but no. She was beaming a radiant smile.
