The chirping and stink of wood chips filled the air. At first Kaine had found it slightly unsettling, but now he found that he had gotten accustomed to the weird odor. When the tubby man had waddled off, the lord had started arts and crafts. It had been awhile since he had carved any bone runes, so he wanted to get a little practice in before he started on the real thing. After cleaning the meat from the shin, he began to chisel out the forms onto the white canvass using a pointed metal throwing spike. It was the only weapon he kept on his person while still within the confines of the lab.
Kaine had quite a bit of skill in necromancy, but he didn't have much use for shambling zombies and frail ghouls. His studies specialized in the manipulation and growth of the bones of the dead. As he finished his carving, he felt sad that he didn't have anything else to practice on. As it was, he charged the scratches in the bone with a bit of energy. The item began to mutate and grow to about four feet in length, coming to a point at the end. He whistled, satisfied.
The door creaked opened a little bit, and Kaine heard a tiny voice. "Oooo~oh, you're back! heart " He walked to the door with his spear in hand and began to open it the rest of the way. "This won't take very long my little dumplings...." He said as the door swung open wide enough to allow him a view of Amir. "You don't look very cuddly." His tone had become very flat.
Kaine cleared his throat before he continued speaking. "All you have to do is think of your charge's pretty little face until I tell you to stop. 'Kay, pumpkin?" He held out his hand towards the thing's face to help him focus. His modified genes had given him many abilities, but this was the only one he had before the splicing. His mind reached out to caress the surface of Amir's, waiting for the image of his prey to pop into his mind.

The pudgy tech quickly moved aside to allow Kaine assess to Amir. Once out of the way he settled himself on watching to see what was going to happen. With Kaine’s focus now on the attendant Matthew felt a little more relieved. Maybe he would make it back and finish his work for the day. There was always hope.
As Kaine approached and reached up a hand toward Amir’s face the clicking noise resounded from his throat once again but he didn’t move away. He did as he was told and pictured the white haired wolf girl in his mind. Small, frail structure, long white locks of hair, fluffy wolf tail, and large round crimson eyes.

Kaine had felt the memory come to the surface of the creature's mind, and he copied it. It would have felt like a tingling sensation. Slowly pulling the fragile wisp of ether through the air, he placed it into his own mind. "Wonderful, cupcake! You can go about your business." He said as he lowered his hand to his side. He threw Matthew a playful glance, and spoke before he could scurry off. "I still ne~eed you, so keep your a** handy."
The black birds grew a little excited as he neared their cages. "Hello my pretties." He stuck his finger in the cage, repeatedly jerking it out just before one of the sharp beaks could snap down on it. It looked like he was provoking them. "Here are your instructions." He spoke, but mostly he was touching their minds. Their thoughts were much easier to manipulate than a human's. "I want you to fan out and travel in the direction of the setting sun in groups of three. Mix, mingle, and make friends, but leave no corner unchecked. No window unpeered in. Find her." He said as he placed the image of the girl into their minds. "If you find her, one comes here. One follows her, and the other stays where you found her. Got it?" All two dozen birds squaked in unison. "Wonderful."
Kaine moved to the window after opening the cages. As soon as he slid the window open, the birds (crow and raven alike) swarmed out of the cages and through the window. Needless to say, it was a storm of feathers and talons.
With that bit of work done, Kaine turned to Matthew. He almost squeeled with glee. He wanted to have a little fun with the guy. He had time to think of a few more things he needed, and they were all icky. The squeemish little man was about to get his hands dirty. "I need a few more things, my little piglet. A demon's heart, fresh, about a cup of vampire bat saliva, and an imp's liver. If you would put them in my workshop, I'd be most appreciative. I'm sure you'll find everything in the lab area, just don't get in anyone's way." He shut the window while grinning behind his scarf. Somehow, he doubted the tubby man could manage.

Amir gave a bow to Kaine before he took his leave. Without saying a word he walked past Matthew and left. The lab tech was about to follow but Kaine gained his attention and explained that he was still needed. Nervously he nodded his head, trying his best to keep from showing his emotions.
The tech watched carefully as Kaine spoke to his birds giving them careful instruction on finding the girl. He wasn’t sure how a bunch of birds would really help but it seemed like they understood as they all flocked to the window and left. When Kaine turned his attention back to the tech he almost flinched as he called him yet another pet name. Little piglet? Not exactly comforting. It wasn’t until the list of things that Kaine needed started to roll out of his mouth that the tech looked panicked. “A…a demon’s heart? A fresh one?” Matthew squeaked uncontrollably. “A cup of vampire bat saliva? And…an imp’s liver?” These were rather odd things to fetch, Matthew had never been called to do this kind of work.
“I…I’ll be back as soon as I can, Lord Markaine,” Matthew gave a steep bow before he took his leave in a hurry almost running back to the lab. What was he going to do? He had no idea how he was going to go about getting any of these things, but Markaine said they would be in the lab so that’s where he headed.

"MMMMmmmmm-MMMMMmmmmmm." Kaine said after he estimated Matthew was out of earshot. He chuckled mirthlessly and exited the aviary, closing the door behind him. Tapping the blunt end of his bone spear against the ground in a rythm, he made his way towards his workshop.
This place never slept. Most of the humans used stimulants to stay awake for days at a time, fulfilling their duties at breakneck pace. The drugs weren't without drawbacks. The eyes looked sunken, as if the sockets tried to swallow them up hungrily. Most of the inhumans he had seen, however, worked around the clock for days without the aid of stimulants. Either way, it was almost always like navigating through a sea of meat going one way or the other in any of the well-travelled halls.
Once he had entered his workshop, Kaine was surprised to see that all of the items he had asked his personal assistant for were all lying on the slab of metal that served as a table. The sleek steel was originally used for autopsies, but like many other rooms in the lab it had become obsolete due to its small size. He had adopted it as his own shortly after. He had two sets of carving knives in a rollable cloth case sitting on a counter nearby. One he rolled and tethered closed using the strings meant for that purpose, and placed it in his satchel. The other, he eyed with care. His nimble fingers plucked one of the cruel looking blades out of its holster, and went to work carving on the sternum.
