Xiam Kaiserhuff Seriously, somebody find me some Steam Hippies. o_o I'm totally tempted to draw a Steam Hippie! OMG! I COULD TOTALLY DO AN AVATAR OF THAT! All I need is a cig, a Grombie skin, and some long hair. *goes to TekTek for an example* "Whoa... dude, did that always do that?" Well...I think that pretty much wins this thread.

I think it a wonderful idea. There were some rebellious people during the Roaring 20s, and it would be wonderful to see a mobster sending his bootleg drink by the use of anachronistic modes of transportation.

This Jazz-punk idea is awesome. I adore that era so very much. I've actually had a manga story in mind that kind of goes along with this. One of these days, I'll have to get work on it.
However, at the moment, nothing is beating the sheer funny of Steam Hippie. He does indeed, win the thread xd 3nodding heart

The idea borders on Diesel Punk/Pulp, although that leans a little more towards late 30's/early 40's.

I am down with any sub culture of punk which allows me to adopt the persona of a WWI aviator. Like you don't know how! (down I am...)

Sidnay I am down with any sub culture of punk which allows me to adopt the persona of a WWI aviator. Like you don't know how! (down I am...) Aweshome. ;3 I made a big list of the things of which the Jazz-ish era is famous for. If anyone has any contributions, please say so. Some aspects of the Jazz era were: Jazz (of course). The 18th Amendment, a.k.a. Prohibition, in which alcohol was made illegal. Speakeasies, in which said illegal alcohol was bootlegged and sold, illegally. A new rebellious period in which women and blacks sought for a social freedom that was previously unheard of in the past. Think flappers, and prominent black Jazz musicians. The era of the great American Authors such as Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, and Gertrude Stein. A great era of aviation, such as the transatlantic flight made by The Spirit of St. Louis flown by Charles Lindbergh (Lucky Lindy), Amelia Earhart, and widespread military use of aircraft. The Great Depression, a time of great scarcity which initiated many large scale migrations to the west, and sprouted a hobo culture, especially dealing with train stowaways. It was associated with the great stock market crash of that time period. It was the period after the first World War, and preceding the second. The onset of a new artistic culture called Art Deco, and Cubism. The introduction of the comic book! A thriving mafia and underground culture. Hollywood thrives. Zeppelins. D: Yes, I know that airships are the very flagship (harhar) of steampunk, but dirigibles were actually more widely used before the 1940s. xO The best known dirigible was of course the Hindenburg which met its fiery end in New Jersey in 1937. The 19th Amendment set forth so that women would be able to vote.

Not to mention rise in fascism, and changing political currents! Man... a 1920's Steampunk world would be friggin INTENSE!

I totally forgot about that! xD How can anyone forget about Mussolini? ;3 It was also a huge time of expatriation, when Americans would live all around the world, since the war was over and many didn't want to return home. Like those living in Paris, etc.
