Apathetic, by the time Riddle returned, was emerging from the stone framework, having done another quick survey of the interior; as he saw the others, he said, "The rubble isn't that bad; it's largely concentrated in the first few rooms, though, so I haven't been able to get to the rear rooms yet."

Pausing a moment, to turn and regard the building, he mused, "I wonder what could have caused this, though? From what I saw, the building's definitely old and weathered, but the damage was done before erosion started to take it's toll."

"Let me take a look," Riddle said, walking towards the building.

"By all means," replied Apathetic, stepping aside so that Riddle could have clear access to the building.

Riddle stared hard at the ceiling and walls. Yes, it did look like erosion was taking it's effect, but something had damaged the building...something big. It was hard to tell though, because the traces along the edges had long eroded away. He turned to one of the undamaged walls. He spotted a...no, it couldn't be...a scorch mark? He examined it closer. "It is indeed a scorch mark. Something large attacked this place, or maybe a crude form of bombs?" he exited and told Apathetic about the damaged walls and the scorch mark.

Apathetic's eyes focused on some distant point as he mused, "A scorch-mark, eh... ? If it were surrounded by a different element, perhaps, I might chalk it up to carelessness on the part of former inhabitants, but if it was some kind of crude bomb, then..."

Apathetic momentarily paused to glance down at his wrist, where Proteus had been twisting for some time in what seemed like a middling-powered breeze... except that the stone wall was effectively blocking any wind that might be causing it. Filing the note away for later, Apathetic, continued, "... Then clearly, this place has some kind of history; fortunately, though, it'd seem that whatever caused it has long burnt itself out by now."

"Let''s get rid of some of this rubble, and see if we can find anything else around," Riddle said, lifting some of the boulders out of the way.

"It'll have to be done anyway," agreed Apathetic, proceeding to move some of the rubble in his immediate area, clearing a path so that the rest of the debris would be more easily removed from the building.

"That was quick," Riddle mumbled, after removing the last of the rubble from the left side of the path. He shrugged and went through.

Apathetic lingered for a few moments longer, eyeing some of the marble that had been removed; there were remnants of what had once been intricate carvings on several, though all he could make out at the moment was some curving lines he assumed represented water.

Making a mental note to mention it later, he shrugged and went to go see about those other rooms as well.

Riddle made a motion to stop. "Be careful Apathy. Just because some went off doesn't mean others haven't, and if they haven't, it doesn't mean they aren't working," he said, trying to see the object ahead of him.

'Oh, right... The potential-bombs.' Apathetic decided to err on the side of caution, double-checking the floor for signs of discrepancies with the rest before stepping on it. If it wasn't for the fact that he didn't know what might set off... whatever it was might still be here...

Still, Apathetic noted that the damage to these back rooms weren't nearly as extensive as he had thought they'd be, and he said as much:

"You know, it's strange, but these areas don't seem to be as damaged as I'd assumed they'd be. The roof is still intact... No windows, but the rubble was primarily back there, across the threshold between the inner and outer house. As though it was an intentionally blockage... or barricade?"

"Possibly," Riddle said. "I do think you're right." Riddle scanned the floor and spotted an odd stone in the back, shaped like a Hououza feather. "Look at this..."

Picking his way carefully across the floor, Apathetic got a look at the stone; indeed, the stone Riddle was calling his attention to was shaped like a Hououza feather, though time and weather had worn away much of the detail.

Proteus twisted in the window-less room, and Apathetic - noticing for the first time how airless it really was, suddenly said, "Do you know what time it is? There aren't any windows, so I've no idea how late it's gotten."

While Proteus was twisting, faint humming could be heard coming from Riddle's direction. "Something's happening, that these two pick up. Takato doesn't hum unless he feels something, and the song is fast and in a minor beat, so he's probably anxious, scared, or angry," Riddle said.

"If this place was somewhere they knew in their last life, then that might explain it," suggested Apathetic, lightly cupping his hand around the feather to prevent it twisting free from the leather strap. "It might just be the place being so run-down, or maybe they know what caused it... and they didn't like it."
