My band uses those shoulder mounted convertable contra tubas which also happen to have detachable bells like sousaphones. Anyway, they carry those things horns down similar to the way baritones do it and snap up the same way.
Well, the detachable bells were starting to get loose on some of the tubas and one day a tuba did a horn snap and the bell flung off of it. After that, they decided to drill into the bell to keep it on, but it didn't work for some reason. At the last moment before a competition, they used half a roll of yellow electrical tape to keep the bell on the horn....

That was... (for lack of a better word) ghetto. ninja

i have two
one: my friend (also a tubist) answered a question right. our director had a ton of candy so he threw candy to the kids who got the answers. so he tossed a mint at my friend. who jumped out of his seat, dropping his tuba, to catch the damn mint. it fell and he fell onto the floor taking out a couple chairs with him. and the fallen tuba took out a few as well.

two: i was curious to see if i could fit my head into my tuba bell. enough said.

Well, at our school, we love our tubas. We have five, and three players, but all are in pretty good condition.

Therefor, I only know of one incident, though I wasn't there to see it.

One of our tuba players, Doug, was running across the muddy feild to set back up during practice, and he tripped and did a faceplant. In a huge mud hole.

I'm pretty sure they had to clean the Sousaphone after that.

Some band kids spell tuba tooba. My sis was at a basketball game and then this tuba player got up the huge hill top corner of a huge stand. Last row, highest up, to discover someone jammed a water bottle in his tuba. They had to fetch a replacement tuba and take his to the shop to get the bottle out. Then anotherone my sis told me. The bandroom at my school has a insterment storage leve and stairs and stuff. This player didn't want to carry his insterment down all those stairs, so he told his buddy to stand under him and catch his insterment. His buddy missed and the insterment got dented. then the may 3rd tornado a player brought his tuba home. The tornado struck his house and the tuba stayed put where it was, but was flat as a pancake. My sis says the band director still has it too.

Our freshman tuba has fallen over a few times in practice... but otherwise we don't have too many stories.

One of our baritones fell during half-time, but got right back up and finished teh show. The best part is that we have it on tape xd !!!

At a different game something happened to me... My section leader thought my hat wasn't on right so she told Tisha to fix it...Tisha shoved it down on my head, and my hat had a peice that stuck out on the inside, so as she pushes it down, it scratches my face. I went through the whole show on the verge of going crazy because I started bleeding, and it was of course running down the side of my face..... Just goes to show that we band people are alot tougher than we look!!

I got... Nearly ran over by a Tuba once during one of our field-shows. :<
We had to run and skip in our field-show, and I've never had a problem skipping past the Tubas before. This time, I don't know why, I nearly collided with him. D:
But then I skipped and ducked down under him and sprung back up when he already skipped to his spot. It was so awkward, I could hear people in the crowd laughing. ">_<

At our high school the the MB comes out at half time almost every game the "special" tuba comes out and they light the bell on fire the the player'll swing it around and stuff. One lucky guy accidentally flung his tuba and almost caught the whole field on fire. But he didn't and the band even finished the music and stuff... XDXDXD

:O! I wanna tuba that will do that!

OMFG. Me too!

Oh my goodness.
So there's this kid in my band, Steve, he's a sophomore, he's my section leader now (low woodwinds).
Last year, he decided to switch from tenor to tuba. BAD IDEA.
So I'm a freshman now, and so I wasn't there to see this.
But.
Our marching band made it into a pretty big parade at night that's lighted with flourescent lights up in Portland, Oregon.
The tuba's have a "dance" that they do while marching. Now, the two upperclassmen tubas got this DOWN. They've got it covered. Steve thought he did, too. Nooo.
So Steve FELL DOWN in a HUGE parade WITH a tuba!
And I really don't know if he WAS hurt, because Steve says yes, that there was blood everywhere, that it stained his white gloves. But the upperclassmen tubas say differently, and I trust them more than Steve.
But he fell down and was able to get right back up again, and plus, it was RIGHT before our band hit the camera, too. Only some of the crowd saw it anyway, and the drumline.
But hey, at least Steve quit tuba!

I have two.

A couple years ago at my old school we used buckets to mark our field so we could tell what yardline we were on. Well one of the tuba girls in the second movement had to back up and she did right into the bucket that was right infront of me. It wasn't a pretty sight and she had to sit out for most of the rehearsal sad

My second one just happened last season. Our last competition before states was at a school that had a terrible field. There were pot holes and all of us swear the field is slanted...anyways, it had rained earlier that day so the field was wet too...

One of the tuba players fell and the two tubas behind him followed suit right on top of him. The first person who fell wasn't hurt at all, but the third person twisted his ankle and the second person was kicked in the ribs by the third person. What made this worse was that it was in the middle of the first movement so they were brave sports and finished out the performance.

What made me ticked though was that someone from my section was laughing at them when we were still just before starting the second movement...my section leader and i were sooo enraged but the director didn't make us punish the guy because it was a week before states. Lame.

When I started, my Tuba used to ALWAYS fall on my head. I'd be playing and then... BAM!!! It hurt so bad... D:

One time, after I safely navigated down the bleachers with my Sousaphone, there are these three retarded concrete steps of pointlessness. I tripped, saved my Sousaphone, but managed to sprain my foot. How, in the name of my beautiful Dutch Warmblood/Thoroughbred, 17.2 hh, Liver-ish Chestnut horse, and my beautifully polished and oiled Tuba, does one sprain their FOOT?! I didn't sprain my ankle, like normal people, but my foot. Dx< I was on crutches for, like, a week and a half to two weeks.

Also, at my old middle school (it was a public school), there was this horrific-looking tuba that, apparently, had been run over by a car at least four times. o_o;;

And, one of the WORST THINGS EVER... is walking around, holding your tuba, wearing, like, five-inch heels. They're pretty shoes. That's why I have them, but uih9s87fv!!!! I nearly DIED. >_
There's more, so if I remember them I'll post 'em.

I have a non-tuba accident that's pretty funny. I wasn't in the marching band at the time, but during a part where the band was close together, a trombone hit a judge in the face and the judge fell into the rest of the band and everyone tripped over him. We don't have trombones in the band anymore... XD
