I ducked under the tape quickly, rushing to catch up with them. Smiling timidly at the man who stood guard by the door, I entered the house. I was immediately hit by a wave of stench, my stomach lurching at the strong smell. The room looked painted red from all of the blood coloring the walls, ceiling, and floor. I followed them, my hand in front of my nose with my jacket covering it, trying to ignore the flips my stomach was doing.
I couldn't tell they were bodies untill I saw a finger, miraculously un-bloodied. I looked closer then, seeing the shapes of four mangled bodies twisted into the red that I was becoming used to. Everywhere I looked, splotches of blood clung to the place. It even dripped off of the ceiling with sickening ker-plunks as it hit the surface of a puddle of the same liquid.

After a while, you'd think one would get used to the sights of blood and gore. Sure, it's only been a month, but still, I shouldn't be getting nauseous at crime scenes anymore. Especially not after the Lazarus Coven killings, as they came to be known. Yet here I was, gagging, tasting vomit at the back of my throat, at the sight of something not nearly as bad as my first crime scene. I had only seen two of four bodies then, and those two had been burned to a crisp, melted together.
Now, there were mere shapes and lumps strewn about, twisted limbs, flesh, and organs.
I gagged again, and brought an arm in front of my mouth to keep from retching.
After all, it's nothing like the movies.
"It's not all that bad," Charles said, looking around as though he were in an art museum. "I've seen worse."
I glared at him. "Worse than people torn to shreds?"
He glanced at me, smiled. "Yes. I've seen it actually happen in front of me."
Hey, I couldn't exactly argue with that. And it was kind of pointless to play rock, paper, scissors to see who had seen the worse; I'd been a Watcher for a month, Charles had been alive for over a thousand years.
No contest.

I tried to simply breath and ignore the scent stinging my nose and my stomach flipping uncontrollably. If I threw up now, I would contaminate evidence, and that would be BAD.
"Do you know what happened?" I asked, coughing as the taste of blood filled my mouth. The stuff was everywhere, how do you escape it? I turned toward Lucas, the one who seemed to be nice. The other one, Charles if I remember correctly, had no manners whatsoever.
What am I even doing here, I wondered as I watched the blood dripping down the walls and off the ceiling, simply puddling on top of the carpet that was already soaked through with the same thick red liquid.
"How can you stand this?" I asked, shuddering as the taste of blood rushed into my mouth agan, and my stomach threatenned to vomit up what little contents I had inside of it. I had a gronola bar for breakfast around 6am when I left for school, and I hadn't eaten since. Last time I had checked the clock was right before I left work, and it had said 6:30pm. It was most likely around 7:00 now.

Before I could answer, the bloodsucker just had to put his two cents in, as always.
"Whatever did this made a very clean getaway," he said, as he had outside. "There is no foreign scent, aside from the four humans. Which means that this is a very strong beastie we have on our hands."
Joy.
"So, do you know exactly what kind of beastie?" I asked. He shook his head.
Ah-ha! Mr. Smarty-Pants-Know-It-All-Look-At-Me-I'm-A-Sexy-Vampire didn't have an answer for that one. And point for me...
"No, but looking around here will definitely narrow it down. One things for sure: It's not a draugr, ghoul, or death hound, like in our last case."
"Oh, that's reassuring," I snorted. "Especially if it made a mess like this."
We came to the basement door and paused. It was cracked open. If the police had investgated,it would still be all the way open. Why hadn't they looked down here?
As Charles opened the door, I saw why. There was no blood anywhere on the stairway. But still, they should've investigated it...
Or maybe they were saving the worst for us.
The worst is always down in the basement.
Even though there was no blood as we descended, there was a body lying in the middle of the floor. Well, most of a body. It had been torn limb from limb, bits and pieces strewn about like upstairs. So why was there no blood?
"You said you smelled blood from four victims," I said. "Then who's this?"
"This," Charles said, staring at the pieces of the body in shock, "Is a surprise, even to me."
I looked at him, mouth agape. "What?"
"This victim must have been drained dry before they ripped it to shreds."
"So you're saying we have a rogue vamp on our hands?" I asked.
"It's very possible."
s**t.

I listened to them bicker, my face a mask of confusion. Shaking my head, I followed them to the basement, afraid of what might be down there. I had seen many movies, and the worst things were always in the basement.
I winced as they opened the door, expecting to see more blood and gore, maybe even a couple of torture devices. I was wrong. Looking past the two, the smell of blood wasn't down here, and I breathed in the clean air gratefully.
Seeing the body, I couldn't help but allow my confusion to be voiced. "Why is there no blood?" I asked, feeling stupid once I realised I hadn't been listening to what they were saying. I think they already answered that, I thought as I studdied the pieces, finding the marks of strong, rather large, hands.
"Whatever it was, it was big." I said, not caring if anyone was paying attention to me. Keeping my distance but bending down, I looked closer at the marks of a set of large hands. Bruises forming in their shape on the body.

"The victim was drained dry before being torn to shreds," I said before Charles could. "That's why he only smelled four different bodies, not this one. It's dried up like a prune. That's why we think it's a rouge vamp. A damn powreful one at that. Not necessarily big," I said in response to her comment. "Just old and powerful. As old as Charles here."
He shook his head. "There were only three vampires as powerful as me; Rector, Secuutus, and Mortacai. All three of which you, me, Terry, and Daniel took down two weeks ago."
"Are you sure they're dead?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. Charles stared hard at me.
"No," he said.

((TERRY, IT WOULD BE NICE OF YOU TO JOIN US!! xd ))

My mouth got ahead of mind again as I stood, rudely asking. "Are the vampire steriotypes true? Like sunlight and nighttime, and ohter things?" I asked, blushing a light pink color when my mind caught up to my mouth.
"I'm sorry, that was rude." I said, looking down at my feet as my blush deepened in color. I wasn't one for uncomfortable situations, and I could feel tension in the air already. Last thing I need to do is piss him off, I thought looking at him apologetically.
My mouth got me into trouble often, moving before my mind realised what it was saying. It put me into a lot of tough situations, mainly with my teachers. They didn't like it when I questioned their teaching skills...

"What do you mean, no?" I cried. Even though I had asked the question in all seriousness, I hadn't exactly expected Charles to answer as he did. "The way we killed them... they have to be dead!"
"Anything is possible," was all Charles said as he walked up the stairs. I stared after him in utter awe and partial terror, before following him to the main level and out the front door.
"What'd you find?" Jamison asked.
"Possible vampiric killings," Charles said. "There's a dismembered body in the basement that was drained of all blood before it was chopped up."
Jamison paled. "What?"
"Yeah," I said. "Believe me, it was a surprise to us, too. We're thinking rogue vampire. Then, of course, Mr. Early had to drop the bombshell that one of the three vampires from two weeks ago might not be dead after all."
"How can you know that?" Jamison asked, in partial shock.
"Anything is possible," Charles said again.

Charles' mind must've just caught up with what was going on, because he turned to Nova to answer he question.
"Yes, they are," he said. "Sunlight burns us. We can only thrive outdoors at night. However, holy items don't harm us, such as holy water and crosses." He put a hand down his shirt and pulled out a white gold cross on a gold chain. "See?" he said. "I would've liked to have gotten this in silver, but vampires are in fact, allergic to it. And anything you may have heard about white roses and running water is false. Only stakes, sunlight, and fire harm us." He smirked and walked past Jamison, before vanishing.
I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god he's gone," I said. "Of course, knowing him, he's gone til this case is over. a*****e." I shook my head.

I laughed, feeling some of the tension released as he left. "Maybe he has a stick up his a**?" I suggested, looking at the spot where he disapeared.
"What are you here for anyway? And how did you know I wasn't human? And what are you? What do you do for a living?" I asked. The words flew from my mouth quickly, all of the questions on my mind rushing out.

I smirked at her remark. "It's possible," I said. As the questions flew from her lips, I readied myself with answers.
"I'm here because I'm a member of the Watcher's Private Investigation Society. Charles was the one who knew you weren't human. I am a Watcher, obviously, because I'm a member of the W.P.I.S. I investigate supernatural crimes with my partner Daniel Torrance and ally Terry Nichols." I gestured to Terry, who waved. ((sorry for godmodding a bit; just since she's not here, i needed to do that little thing)).

((I don't mind. It's only a little wave, not like your making her character do much.))

I was confused. "Watcher's watcha-ma-call-it?" I asked, looking at him. I only caught about half of what he had said, and I wasn't sure what he meant. (Writers block stressed )

((Haha, it's okay mrgreen ))

"You've never heard of it?" I said, looking at Nova, raising an eyebrow. "It's pretty well-known. No one considers us official, but the way I see it, we're law enforcement - supernatural law enforcement, but law enforcement nonetheless. And the fact that the people pay their taxes to support us. So, that should make us official, but whatever, people are stupid." I smirked. "Anyway, we're basically glorified babysitters of the supernatural. We keep the balance between them and the real world."

A loud whimper was heard from the side of the house; on further inspection, there was to be found a small wooden tool shed, and hushed whispers came through soft and sweet.
Behind the closed door, fifteen year old Mave held her little sister close and kissed the top of her head. "Shh, shh, it's all right, Fey, they can't hurt you... I won't let them hurt you..." The young girl sobbed uncontrollably, but quietly.
"I d-don't want them to c-come baaack..." she hiccupped miserably.
"They won't, baby, it's all right..." Mave cooed. Her hair fell into her face just as she heard footsteps from a couple of yards to the door. Phoenix became tense under Mave's embrace as her darkened blue eyes narrowed to mere slits. "They will not come back." The footsteps stopped, and Mave let out a breath of relief.
Then, the door swung open.
