Alana nodded, she couldn't see why they should wriggle into someones heart but each to their own.
"Oh yes she knows the jungle as well as anyone does. Though I do wonder if she will come back sometimes. She is getting older, her father is a lion and I have never hid it from her. So she might wish to be more like a lion. Her name is Heu and you might meet her, she seems to be restless all the time though. Always moving." She smiled. It was sad to think that her daughter might just leave but it was life and Alana was just happy that she had been able to give her daughter a good life.
"Hard? Yes, it isn't easy. I worry less now then I did. She has to learn to look after herself, she will probably leave one day and never come back. I will miss her but I am preparing myself for that day." She was happy to talk about it, after all Alana had been thrown into the world when her parents were killed by the two legged creatures, at least Heu had a good life before now.

"Heu..." Hera seemed to be pondering on something. "She sounds really nice. I'm glad I was born a girl, I think we were given the greatest gift of all. We give birth to children and we share a bond with them that a male could never have." She sighed dreamily.
"One day, if I ever have a cub of my own, I'll try my best to be a good mother, just like you Alana. You seem to understand your daughter so well." She smiled contentedly. "You must be so proud."
Her bushy tail flicked from side to side.
"Alana, I think I may leave the jungle in a few days. I want to go and find others, other leopards, other friends. Have you, have you been out there? Beyond the jungle?" She wanted to gather as much information as possible before she left.

Alana was flattered but just smiled, she didn't think of herself as anything special, just a mother who loved her daughter. It was true though, mothers always had a special bond with their children whether it was admitted or not.
"I am sure you would be a great mother." She smiled and then thought about the question she was being asked.
"Yes, I left rather young, but when I fell pregnant with Heu it would have been cruel to birth her out there. She is safe in here, climbing the tree's and hiding in the undergrowth." She looked in the direction she had left the jungle in. "It is harsh out there. It is nice, of course but so less predictable. Hotter as well." She was pure white and was saying that! It really was hot out there!

Blinking her eyes, Hera realised for the first time that the sun was beginning to fade. Darkness would veil them soon, veil them in her soft, comfortable cloak. She loved the dark, loved the peace that came with it and the songs of the night bugs.
"This is where we belong." Hera agreed with a nod. "I feel so at home here, just a shame that it can get a little lonely too. I know that no matter where I go, there'll be no place I feel more safe and comfortable than here. I'd want my children here too."
She shook her head. "Oh, silly of me Alana! It's getting late and your little one is still out there." She tilted her head. "I'm going to go find myself a nice spot for the night but don't worry I'll come track you again!" She purred. "It was lovely meeting you." And with a happy chirp, the red-pelted girl trotted merrily off, a skip in her step.
