Alas eyes widened in horror as she realized why, why the last pup hadn't made noise, why it didn't squirm.

Musketeer smiled his tail wagging joyfully as he heard Necrala's soft tone. Another... she said? How many pups was he father to! Eagerly he edged closer to try and see for himself.

Musketeer halted and frowned at the snarl, he saw her stand over Alas shoulder and saw three pups drop into a wriggling mass. He looked at her hurt, conflicted. How could she tell him to leave now? Wouldn't she see reason? He licked his lips and backed up a bit not wanting to upset her.

"Necrala..."

Alas bent low over the pup to ensure and let out a soft low whimper of pain. Dead, a stillborn pup, she couldn't bring life where there was none. Still she tried she gently shook the little body and breathed over it warmly. She gasped softly at her failed efforts and whirled around. "It's...dead..." She moved to Necrala prepared to comfort her. She gazed up at Musketeer almost accusingly.

Alas frowned at the silver male as his posture changed, suddenly her anger seemed misplaced, but how could she help be upset at the life lost?

"Dead?!" Musketeer scrambled forward a look of panic on his face trying to get around Alas and Necrala.

--- "I don't care about whatever you're going to say. Leave.Now." She spat, fur bristling like a porcupines. Of ALL the times to be here, why now? Of all the times to be here, never would be the best.

--- All these little monsters, they were his curse, his pox upon her. And he expected to be welcomed here? 'Don't make me laugh...' she thought cynically.

--- The news of the dead pup fell upon deaf ears it seemed, even when the devastated father echoed the cry it didn't phase Necrala a bit. "You're not coming any closer..." She growled, putting a foot out to move in front of his path.

"Necrala!" He looked at her shocked, didn't she hear what Alas had said? Their pup was dead! He gave a shallow gasp at the image burned into his mind, he had to see it, he had to make sure. What if it was alive? Couldn't Alas be confused? Wrong? She had to be wrong!

He shoved past the two females uncaring now if Necrala was upset and leaping over her foot. He quickly lowered his nose to the still pup that lay away from the wriggling mass that searched for milk. He closed his eyes and pressed closer wishing it to life, but Alas had been right. It was dead. For a moment rage floated to the surface he turned to Necrala and growled deeply stepping forward. He would kill her for killing their child.

He halted in place and gulped down the cold air in the den, slowly he tried to regain his usual calm demeanor. It wasn't Necrala's fault...she was just confused and tired. It wasn't her fault...
Still he watched her carefully waiting for her to show some sign of grief, didn't she care? At all?

Alas slipped back out of the den to let the parents console each other. Yet she turned shocked at Necrala's words. Didn't she understand? Was she confused? Why was she acting this way towards Musketeer? What was wrong with them?

She moved to sit outside the den and gasped at the growls that emited from within. Alas contemplated stepping in, yet it seemed wrong to interfere in such a matter.

--- Necrala let out a cynical laugh in reply to his shock, staring his back as he pushed back her. "As if you never expected it!" All that came from her was death! And this being her first litter, in the middle of winter, in an unprotected den by herself, well, it wasn't completely impossible. It was almost sure.

--- What she didn't expect was the hostility from him, of all wolves. The femme took a wary step back, a glance around her enough to watch Alas leave the den. She couldn't exact blame the wolf (though of course she full-heartedly did at that moment), the mood inside the now seemingly cramped den was less than forgiving.

--- With a quick gesture of her paw that caused her swollen tits to sway lightly towards the pups, Necrala sneered at the silver male. "You have what you want. Take them and leave." She rumbled.

Musketeer gulped down his anger as it flared again at her laughter. His paws dug into the ground beneath him. "If you would have listened...come to safety..." The silver wolf was always so good natured it was hard for him to hold back this newfound anger. Yet his tone held the growls that he refused to express directly.

He snarled as she motioned towards the pups. "They need you, they need their mothers milk to live...would you deny them their lives in the same careless manner you deny you loved me...at least for one night..." He advanced on her anger fueling him.

He pressed her against the wall and growled softly into her ear. "I love you Necrala...but I love those pups more...you WILL take care of them for at least a week...and if I come back and single one of them is in anything but less than perfect condition..." He gently nipped her ear. The silver wolf gazed at her a long moment and despite his cold words his eyes still held the pain and love he bore for her. He slipped out of the den muttering something to Alas and heading back to the pack.

Alas frowned and slid her nose back into the den. "Necrala? Are you okay? Do you need help?"

--- "What would it have mattered? One more sin to live with!" She growled in reply, hysterics beginning to get to her. "Denied that I loved you? That love was never yours to have in the first place! It still isn't, and has never been yours! Where I stand these pups are none of mine! They are dead to me, as are you, wolf." She snapped, despite her stiff position moving back as he advanced.

--- Necrala attempted to move when she found herself cornered, but she had no-where to go, and grudgingly for the moment she allowed herself to be still, head pulled down against her chest to cover her vulnerable neck, deep growls still rumbling despite his threats. "
"You will what? Take me once more to bear your children? Surely the healer of yours will oblige to this 'love' of yours!" The cadaver-like femme snapped to his retreating form once more as he left the den.

--- By the time Alas had returned she was visibly shaking, the action of which she soon braced herself against in the other femme's presence. "I'm fine. Leave." She muttered through clenched jawls.

Alas frowned and watched Necrala a long moment uncertain if she should heed the corpse colored females words. Yet it seemed unfair to press her, since Musketeer seemed so upset and she seemed...shaken. Still Alas couldn't help but wonder if it was because of her dead pup or her mate?

"Alright...if you need me just call for me...I..." hope your alright... Somehow Alas was at a loss for words. She was going to tell Necrala to move the dead pup to avoid decay in the den, but she couldn't bear to think it let alone speak it. She turned away and headed for Agua Azual stopping to gaze longingly at Crunch's packlands. How she wanted to go there to the peace and refuge of her friends. Still Twist had faltered in her trust and Alas finally understood the dangerous ground she moved on.

--- The femme gave a dismissive nod, not even bothering to face the pink female as she began to clean herself of blood and numerous fluids that'd somehow come to accumulate on her pelt from birthing. Necrala heard her leave, waiting a few minutes as the paw-steps in the dirty snow faded before allowing a pent up shudder to wrack her body.

--- Swallowing, the new mother turned her attention to the pile of shivering, whimpering pups that, for the entire time of the argument, had been forgotten. The dead pup had been picked out of the litter by Musketeer and laid off to the side when he checked for it's breathing, and thus was far away from the others to keep from being noticed. Stepping ever closer to her children (oh god did she ever hate to think of them as that), Necrala curled up around them, nosing the newborns closer to her breasts to suckle before laying her head on her paws, a pained expression on her face. Did everything have to go wrong?
