"Well, li'l lady, that's what they mean by 'lighten' up,'" the stallion replied happily. "An' that's why it's better ta just laugh yore way through life - if yore already laughin', they have ta be laughin' with ya!" he told her and laughed himself, tossing his head a bit.
No, he hadn't really answered her question. But he didn't really understand how she couldn't find it funny. Really, she was way too serious if she couldn't see the hilarity.

Her beady little eyes narrowed at his comment. "Lighten up, you tell me, Paul Revere? Are you implying that I'm FAT?!"
She'd been prepared to stomp her hoof on his forehead once more, but as he tossed his head back, she struggled to remain standing instead.
"I like to do other things than laugh, though," she said curtly, debating on whether or not to ignore his rude comment about her weight, "Like... smell flowers, for instance!"

Paul Revere laughed even harder. "Li'l lady, it's yore thoughts that're heavy, not yore body!"
He calmed a bit though as he replied to her other statement. "Oh aye, flowers smell nice, but it'd be funny indeed, tryin'a smell flowers in winter when there are none a'course!" The stallion's sides shook with suppressed laughter.

She scrunched up her nose, thinking hard on what he said. "Thoughts can be heavy? But... I've never seen a thought before! You speak nothing but nonsense, Paul."
Small hooves paced to and fro on his nose, contemplating the idea of what a thought would look like. "And I'm sure there are some winter flowers somewhere. That's a horrible thing to say, suggesting there's no flowers around! Why... flowers are so pretty, why wouldn't they be around this time of the year?"

"Why Miss Zahara, how can it be that such an intelligent li'l lady such as yourself can become so confused on such an...such an elementary concept?" The stallion wasn't laughing, but his tone showed more amusement than concern at this lack.
"An' shore, there are flowers bloomin' somewhere right now. But it ain't here li'l lady. It shore ain't here. The closest thing to a flower here is probably yore pretty li'l self," he told her, chuckling.

"I'm not confused you silly giant!" she squeaked, her wings spreading out as she began to grow fussy, "I dont see why flowers can't bloom ALL the time. They're pretty enough to, so they SHOULD. I bet you've been picking them all away, haven't you, Paul Revere?"
She frowned at him, only slightly enlightened at the compliment sent in her direction.

The stallion shook his head. "Flowers cain't bloom all the time, li'l lady. An' how ever would they grow through such deep snow? Nah, the flowers won't come back for some months yet. It's just how things are." Paul Revere chuckled. "Though I do like flowers myself, I certainly don't spend my time picking them!"

She leaned over his nose and stared at his long buck teeth. "I bet you eat 'em, that's what you do." She scowled, turning around to face him face-to-face once again. "And I don't see how flowers can just disappear and then simply reappear on a whim. You're just trying to trick me again, aren't you, Paul Revere?"

"Shall I explain the seasons of growth and decay to ya, li'l lady?" Paul Revere asked, still highly amused. "It seems ta be the only way of answering yore accusations, seein' as I don't much like eatin' flowers."

She huffed at him, spread her small butterfly wings, and darted off of his nose. "I know things die, everything dies, but I refuse to believe that all flowers die and then more just come up out of NOWHERE!"
Flitting around, she kept close to his head, wary of his large set of teeth. "I bet you I could find a flower. Come come come, I will show you!"
And with that, she fluttered off, turning back every now and then to beckon him to hurry up.

Well, okay, that wasn't a bad question. Though not such a good one.
Chuckling to himself, Paul Revere followed the little flutter. "Sure...whateva you want ta do." He didn't bother mentioning this was a wild goose chase. Eventually she'd figure it out, and it would be quite funny.

He seemed like he disbelieved her. WELL. She would sure show him a thing or two about flowers! After all, she was a flutter. And flutters knew flowers!
She zipped from side to side, her reddish head glancing about as she looked around for any sign of green life among the endless white of winter. There just had to be something out there!

The stallion followed Zahara good-naturedly, seemingly uncaring of the snow he was plodding through. Actually, he really didn't mind at all, since the flutter's quick movements from side to side were endlessly amusing to him. She was so feisty, and so dead set on proving him wrong!
His sides were actually starting to ache a bit from suppressing his laughter.

She frowned as she noticed the stallion was kicking up snow with every careless tromp he took. Taking a mental note, her wings beat harder, bringing her elevation much higher and further away from the flinging snow.
Now.... now where would flowers be hiding, this time of year?
She squinted her eyes as she thought, searching the seemingly endless white environment for any sign of color. A patch of white, more white.. white white white... shadows?
Her ears perked. The forest! It was bound to have some sort of flower!
"Come onnnnn!" She urged the orange stallion, pushing herself to go faster as she headed towards the barren trees that lay ahead of their path.

Paul Revere continued following the little Flutter, still chuckling to himself at her antics. He wasn't exactly sure what prompted her to head for the forest, but it was okay. The trees would provide some shelter from the cold wind of the grassland.
"Impatient, aren't you?" he commented laughingly. "Or do you just like to laugh at me as I hike through this snow?"
