The K2 helicopter approached the island... the view was beautiful, the skies clear in the aftermath of the horrible storm yesterday. As the helicopter flew overhead a bird's eye view could be seen of the island, it's mountain, research lab, and huge mansion, in addition to the natural beauty.

The Helicopter touched down on the Helipad. Waiting there were four armed guards and a man in a sweater with red hair, fairly handsome he odviously was in charge of the guards.

"James! Ask the good man to step out of the helicopter" the red haired man said.

"Good luck man" the large man patted Pyroth on the back. The strong pat almost more of a nudge out the door on the side. "As long as you behave he shouldn't hurt you in anyway, not at first atleast."

Pyroth observed the lab avidly as they flew overhead, attempting to ignore the terror in him that demanded he watch the sea instead. So there really was a facility here? The bigwigs hadn't been joking on that count at least. Apprehension built in Pyroth as he noted the armed guards accompanying yet another unfamiliar man on the helipad.

They really do mean business he noted to himself. A thought that was re-affirmed by the cryptic hint of the pilot who had accompaied him here. Still, despite himself, he took a little strength from James' reassurance and with a breif nod to the man stepped out onto the helipad, attempting to maintain every pretence of belonging on an island so segregated from the world.

In a show of feigned indifference, he stepped clear of the helicopter and stood stock still, keen eyes on the red haired man, waiting any further instructions. One couldn't be brash around people with guns, especially not when law only governed those islands that people knew about.

"Welcome to my Island sir... I don't believe I know you, or why your here. But I intend to find out." a wide smile formed.

A serious expression played across Moreau's face. As the helicopter took off in the background.

"I am Dr. Nicholas Moreau, and you are?"

The four guard's expressions looked far more serious than even Moreau's as they each gave Pyroth a cold look.

Now /here/ was a challenge thought Pyroth. The man before him looked no fool. He needed a cover story and he doubted telling the truth would get him much further than that. Well, he could simply bluff ignorance, after all, people got lost in bermuda all the time, didn't they?

He met the man's gaze with as honest a one of his own as he could muster.

"Well, I was on route to the mainland, on business, and couldn't follow the usual shipping routes, so I decided to try a little off road boating, got caught in a storm and ended up here. Not much else to tell." he gave a casual shrug, feigning being he kind of silly person who would attempt such a thing. The excuse was feeble and not likely to cut it, but he was badly shaken from his ordeal and could muster nothing more substantial.

"My name is Pyroth Ignatius." he stated matter-of-factly. His name could give little about him away, his family was little known and his records remained too this day, untracable. However, he did note that this was the man that he had heard mentioned before, Dr Moreau. He hadn't heard the name before now, but he didn't doubt for a second that this man was in charge of any operations, of any nature and legality, that went on on the island.

"I see," said Moreau as he looked at Pyroth with eyes that almost said, "I don't believe you but I don't care."

"Either way, you'll need to come back to my facility, there are certain immuinizations you'll need since you'll be staying here till we can assertain the validity of your story."

"Come with me..." Moreau said as he turned towards a Jeep he had there. Along with the jeep there was a white van as well.

"You will be riding with them." Dr. Moreau motioned as the men lead Pyroth to the white van.

Certain Immunisations

That phrase stood out above all others to Pyroth in the Doctor's words, more so than the apparent beleif he had in the yarn he had spun, more than the fact that he was to be watched by armed guards. He wasn't sure why. Perhaps it was simply the reaction of a man who didn't trust science as far as you could throw it, of a man who only trusted that which he put into his veins himself.

Still, he could not show weakness here in his current predicament. So he did as he was told, all the time aware of the fact that a search would most likely be mandatory on arrival at the facility and the fact that he held quite a few blades and simple but effective weapons about his person, piano wire and the like. How would he explain them? Pirates?

He sat down quietly in the van, his mind racing, eyes constantly seeking a way out of this predicament, while at the same time, intending to keep an eye out and discover what he could about what went on here.

The van ride was uneventful, being hard to see or watch anything outside of it. After a short trip that was odviously full of bends and curves the back opened, the men waited for Pyroth to get out of the van. Almost no words were spoken between them.

Outside the van was a humongous lab facility, highlighted by the mountain that it rested against, an the ominous mansion that sat on the cliffside of said mountain. The entire area was fenced in and this didn't seem like some kind of cheap fence, this was meant to keep people out.

"Here we are" Moreau said politely, "you'll be comming up to the lab so we can give you your injections."

He nodded in the direction of a town that could be seen from outside the facility. "After that you'll be staying there, your room and board cared for, you will need to have regular check ups to make sure you are staying healthy." Moreau smiled and headed to the tallest of the lab buildings.

Alarm bells were ringing in Pyroth's head as he looked up at the lab facility before him. The breifing had said /nothing/ of this sort was supposed to be on the island. He realised that quite unknowingly, he might just have stumbled upon something much deeper than a supposed slave centre. However, once again, he didn't have much chance to ponder, as the doctor once again brought up the subject of injections. This time, Pyroth spoke up, keeping his tone a polite as he could, seen as the Doctor, for all his possible ill intents, had done the same.

"About these vaccinations..What sort of diseases might be transferred to the island or back from the island?, I might just have had them before I left."

Of course, he hadn't, but he couldn't just let things slide like this without at least attempting to worm his way out of the promised injections.

Suddenly another point the doctor had made caught his attention. He was to be lodged here? And receive check ups? The sense of foreboding intensified as Pyroth made the horrible assumption that the facility on this island could be a chemical testing facility. What if they injected him with ebola or something? As Pyroth picked up his pace a little to keep up with the doctor, he asked a question that he knew was stupid, but which he would hate himself for if he didn't ask.

"What if I don't want the injections? If I resist?"

"Ahhh they are rare strains found only in this area." Dr. Moreau said as they continued to walk to the facility. "They are a requirement to stay on this island, which while we check your credentials and figure out where you need to go back to they are required."

Dr. Moreau continued to walk as Pyroth asked his last question. "If you resist the injections, and put my people at risk, these kind men and James will drop you where they found you. Whether or not you still have a boat floating there."

"Now come along... this won't take long at all." Moreau motioned as the guns were much more pointed at Pyroth now... the last question might have been a big mistake.

Damn

Was the main word on Pyroth's mind as he followed along behind Moreau, noting as he did so, that after all this time, he still hadn't lost his unique talent for sticking his foot in it.

DamnDamnDamnDamn

"Okay okay" he stated, averting his gaze to the floor, making an effort to ignore the men with guns far too close by for comfort. "It was pretty much hypothetical question. I didn't think I had a choice anyway."

Pyroth's spirit to resist commands had died quite a long time ago, hence his calm co-operation with pretty much whatever the others told him to do. Being led through life by the nose was something you grew accustomed to after a decade or two. Besides, Pyroth was a bit of a coward and he'd rather live a little longer by doing what he was told, than by making a Famous Last Stand. You never knew, he might just live quite a while here, they would be seeking his credentials for a very long time if the government was anywhere near as scrupulous with his identity as he suspected.

The red-haired man said nothing more as he followed the Doctor to wherever he decided to take him.

Moreau lead the guards, and thus Pyroth into a pristine clean lobby area of his largest lab. He walked towards the elevator quietly. It opened automatically as Moreau approached it, like a supermarket door almost but smoother. Moreau and the men led Pyroth into the elevator which closed behind them. "Floor 8" Moreau said distinctly as the buttonless elevator shot up.

After a moment, the door opened into a room with a large table that had straps on it. "Don't worry this won't take too long Mr. Ignatius..." he nodded to the table as Pyroth was strapped to it.

Moreau walked over to a cabnet and looked through it. "Native American descent eh?" looking at Pyroth as if it were a question as much as a statement.

Pyroth took in the labs with a mixture of awe, fear and a nasty breed of familiarity. He had been in places like these in the past, but rarely as a patient. He made note of the elevator, a voice activated one it seemed, a piece of technology that was a deep inconvenience for anyone trying to get onto or off of an upper floor of a building.

He followed into the room and somewhat degectedly lay down on the table when instructed. He understood their reasoning for strapping him down, he supposed, needles were not a firm favourite of his, at least this way he wouldn't embarrass himself by attempting to escape.

Watching out of the corner of his eye, he attempted to spy what was in the cabinet. Almost instinctually he replied to the doctor's statement. "You could say that."

Making a bit of conversation, he felt, might help him to pretend that he was simply in a regular doctor's practice, receiving a simple shot for one thing or another.

The straps holding him on the table kept on shattering that delusion and reminding him otherwise.

"Red hair is odd though" Moreau smiled as he reached for a particular vial and inserted into the needle. The liquid was a blackish color that almost seemed to swirl.

Moreau walked over, squirted a bit at the tip out and then stuck it into Pyroth's arm. There was a burning sensation but then it faded.

"You may feel sort of odd tonight, but I assure you that will pass by tomorrow. These men will lead you out." As Pyroth was unstrapped by a guard, the guns pointed at him the entire time. "Someone should be at the village to fill you in, I hope you enjoy your stay here. In the meantime we will be looking up your name in the international databases and see about getting you home."

Moreau smiled a wicked smile as Pyroth was lead into the elevator and out of the facility.

Pyroth almost had a panic attack for the second time in two days as the Doctor produced the syringe. No vaccination Pyroth had ever seen was that colour, as black as midnight. But as he flinched, the straps bound him, and all too soon it was over. He felt cheated, like a wild animal forced into a vets office against his will, and he sat up on the table, the place where the needle had pierced his scarred arm throbbing slightly. It was odd that he would fear pain from a needle when so obviously he had felt pain almost everywhere on his arms, but his phycological state was never logical.

He said nothing else to the doctor as the men led him out, feeling that this encounter would not be the last he would see of the man. He did listen however, an nodded as he was imparted instructions on where to go next.

Home...after drifting onto the island like this, he very much doubted he would be going back there anytime soon. Nevertheless, he did as he was told and exited the laboratory in the direction of the villiage, all the while wondering if these odd occurences were merely a horrible dream brought on by his boat trip. However, things were never as convenient as that, and he dismissed those suspicions as fast as they came.

Through some miracle or another, Pyroth found his way to the "villiage" that the doctor had mentioned, as promised, someone was waiting to lead him to his new home for the next while. He received the usual rant on living expectations of the area and headed inside. To say the room was bleak was an understatement, it contained nothing but the barest of essentials and a bed.

Pyroth hated beds. At home he slept on his well-cleaned floor on top of a scattering of very soft pillows, preferring that to the entrapment he felt beneath sheets. Still, he supposed, he might''nt need the sheets in this tropical heat. That was the one plus, he noted, the heat, it reminded him irresistably of home on the cliffs and although a little more humid than he would like, beggers couldn''t be choosers.

Still, at least the search he had expected never really came, that was one overwhelming plus. All about his clothing he was still armed sufficiently to kit this room out with resources from the surrounding jungle. In fact, if there was a beach nearby he told himself, he might even be able to retreive his backup kit which was sent on ahead of his boat in underwater transport pod. It would still respond to the controller in his pocket...hopefully.

If it did, he would have his basic belongings back, as well as a change of clothes and such.

However, currently Pyroth was feeling a little woozy and the prospect of heading out into the midday sun was not making him feel any better. A rest, he felt was very much in order, he would look around later when the sun had set and the temperature intensity had calmed down. He was still tired from the events of the previous night, and, casting off his shirt, he placed it on top of the chest of drawers and lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling above him, the only sound being the faint hum of those insects daring enough to brave the heat. As he lay there, his vision seemed to flicker and dance before his eyes, until he nodded off.

Having gone to sleep of his own accord, Pyroth didn''t notice the gas that made sure he stayed fast asleep, and the monitoring device injected while he dreamt merely influenced his mind towards thoughts of a time when similar things had happened.

Once again he was spread-eagle on an operating table, his arms and legs bound fast. However, this time he was not a full grown man but merely a child. Noting his predicament in the detached way only dreams could, he knew at once that he was dreaming of Ryong''s department in the K building. This was when he had received his barcode wasn''t it? Labelled as just another fancy of science, an excuse to experiment on different and rare genes. He had been so scared then, paralysed but aware as they burned agony into his shoulder.

Then his dream seemed to skip. Without warning he was home, on the deserted plains at night, the dust bowl stretched ahead of him, the moon overhead. There was nothing around him but cacti and a solitary gecko, at least not for a time. Then, without warning, a wolf-like creature dashed in front of him, teeth bared. It was a coyote, he noticed, and not a dissimilar one, it was the one he killed all those years ago, and as he watched, it''s expression shifted to the faces of some of those he had killed in his line of work. Of course, seeing a coyote morph to human and back again wasn''t the least bit unnerving in a dream. Then, it returned to it''s true and feral form and lunged.

Pyroth ran for it, the only course of action he could take in this semi-lucid dream, feeling the movements of the coyote behind him, ever gaining as his sandals slipped in the sand. For a moment he seemed to be running on sand coloured water and he stopped, terrified, as the nausea that always accompanied swimming overcame him, and in that instant the coyote leapt, sinking electrical fangs into the back of his neck.

Pyroth yelled out loud in his sleep and the scientist took quite a fright, but then reassured that his subject was asleep, finished up what he was doing and left.

The red haired man slept on, trapped in that artificial limbo between drug-induced sleep and waking, fitful and restless.
