My parents kinda understand, my friends don't. My parents are like if you want anything you need to work hard for it. ;/

If you won't stand for our troops....I'd have to say that I've never had to march in the band but I know it's not easy. However at my school when I was in JROTC, we were outside doing our usual physical training, we saw the marching band couldn't get marching in step down correctly. And I remember the other guys in JROTC laughing.
I am in the choir, though. So I know that things are not always as easy as they look. ....then go stand in front of them.

lol yeah that is true, ROTC always makes fun of band. I tell you though marching instep is not as easy as it looks...., but my opinion would be that ROTC is better at marching than band, but only because of the constant yelling, and screaming, and getting dropped all the time when we don't get it right... You learn real fast. Push ups make you smarter, well... thats what our NSI says....

Well, I just got into marching band this year, and we made a tradition. Every group before us sucked and was really boring... But we all go crazy and dance anyway and people want to know how to do our dances. (But maybe thats just how south Louisiana is. xD) Its a big change from the group last year. The whole school was ashamed of them.

our football players, varsity mind you, lost almost every game they played. then, some of the players had the nerve to say they were ashamed of the marching band. especially the colorguard, after we had one bad performance. and, im sorry, the colorguard is in little dresses wit see through skirts, basically a bathing suit. its thirty degrees, windy, rainy, snowy, hail possibly, and our equipment is sliding out of our hands. at least we place, and dont come in second by nature of there only being two teams in the game.

Push ups make you smarter, well... thats what our NSI says.... well, i've seen our jrotc, and theyre not any better at marching than we are. pretty good though, but they arent playing or spinning at the same time, well, not the ones i have seen thus far. so sure, they can march, but they yell each other orders. band and guard do things while we march. we cant yell to each other. we can dut between songs, thas about it. my bf is in jrotc, and so is my other guardgirl friend's bf, and they are constantly makin fun of the band. then he had the nerve to say the jrotc does more than the band...saying theyre better and the direct traffic at games. uh, yea, home games. he tried to say we dont have to be at every football game. every varsity game yea, home or away, theyre only at home. and just for the record, i didnt see them crawling around in the mud and water picking up other people's trash.

The crowd hasn't done that to us but they did do it to another band who played at our half time. They were a show band so a lot of people were calling them horrible stuff they were a good band but i think they did better last year.

Our school doesnt care about our band. Its all about the cheerleaders and football team. rolleyes We place at every competition and practice more than anyone else but all we get are comments on how we should be "more ghetto" or how much we suck. And other bands? there is one school that will play while you play in the stands or on the field. In our district its hard to find a supportive group of people. Not even the parents. crying

My school is amazing! The students, staff, football player, and cheerleaders all support the band. It's funny, our football team had a really off year, so turnouts to the football games weren't as high as they've been in previous years. When I'd mention this to my few non-band friends, I found out most of the people there came to see the band perform. xD
I think a lot of the reason my school's band is popular is because we have a high quality half-time show and while we're in the stands we play popular tunes that just about everyone know. :3

I HATE when people talk crap like that. One football game a cheerleader was talking and i "overheard" her say "The Band isn't important anyways!" I freaking hate it when people say that crap!!!!! BTW there's been some football players in my class and everyday they say "oh, band is easy." And then they try and talk some crap about my band director!!!!!! They know nothing. nothing!!!!
They should take band camp, play and march in the sun for 9 hours!!!! ^^ no one understands us in the band i tell you!

During games, I'm usually to concentrated to see the crowds reactions. But, I believe that they really like us. Lot's of people are dancing and clapping in the stands... and wearing togas at times. xd People are clapping and dancing all over during our pep rallies as well, weather were performing in the gym, or marching TO the gym. And the same goes for parades.
So I guess I can say were loved. smile

seriously, why can't everyone just get along? at my school, we have varsity football players and cheerleaders in the band. They just don't march at games. (well, cheerleaders march for part.) People love the band to pieces. we do play modern music (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Rebel Yell, You Dropped A Bomb on Me, etc.) and we are just as crazy, if not crazier than the student cheering section. Plus, like half the people in the stands (if not more) leave after halftime. They know we're not going to win anyways. xD

Well, here's the way my band looks at it. We have so many trophies, we have nowhere to put them anymore. We have a BANNER in the gym, for our national and statewide acheivments. We have two trophies in the front trophy case at our school. 1/5 of our highschool is in band.
Taken those odds, everyone here knows it's pretty much dumb to rag on us. We're the only successful activity/sport/judged competition in the entire school, except maybe wrestling. We get our respect. Not only that, but we made the entire school watch our show last year... They all see us practicing from after school to just about night time. They know we deserve respect, just like everyone else. And really, that's all we asked for.
Do they like us? Maybe... We don't really care... they RESPECT us, though....
Besides, none of us are bad people... xD So they're nice, they watch us when they want, they do dances with us, and finally included us in on 'do it'... xD Long story, awesome little cheer/dance thing.
I mean... heck... the football coach gave us ice cream... and cake... and gatorade. xD
Done ranting now... >< Lol...

GAH it makes me soo mad, I am in guard and some friends came to a show and where like, oh that doesn't look so hard, I am sure tossing it is really easy. Then, the rest of the band agreed with them. Then they all started ragging on us and how we have it easy becuase for part of practice(like 45 min) we are inside learning the dance. The thing is though, we don't have class time to learn all that so we have to learn everything they are learning a lot faster and they are trying to say we have it easy? But when we try to tell them that, they are like, oh well you dont have to march and play, well no, we have to march and toss a flag. Which isnt that easy becuase you have to take into account where you are going, the wind, and if there is anyone near you before you toss it so you don't hit anyone and so you can catch it and continue. I know playing is hard, but tossing is too! and to top it off, most of the games are cold and most of the band has warm band uniforms where we have flimsy, non-covering outfits and we are shivering while we march and we HAVE to look happy to be there. So them saying we have it so much easier just makes me mad. I don't think we have it worse, but we don't have it easier either!
wow, that was more emotional then I thought... sweatdrop
