Catherine Tate was quite good as a companion and I'm looking forward to seeing her in series 4. She brought something else to Doctor Who, comedic value. We can't judge her based on a single episode. I mean, who else would respond to "I just want a mate!" with "You aint mating with me sunshine!" She is so different to the Doctor it's so fun. I think she will be great because we will get to see her grow the most out of all of the characters! She has the lowest comprehension of all of the newest companions, so she has the furthest to go to catch up to everyone else.
Martha (Freema Agyeman) was also a good companion. Although she wasn't on the Doctor's wavelength as much as Rose was, she was still a good companion. She was the smartest of new-revolution Doctor Who companions (Female companions anyway, Jack pwns them all because of his prior experience wink ) when it came to book smarts.
Still, Rose has been the best (female) companion really, because she was so stupidly smart (oxymorons FTW)
