There are really two things to look at here.

1: The outside.

People will, unfortunately, judge a book by its cover. This can work in the Lord's favor, as we look at:

2: The inside.

If she is still steadfast for God, she may reach people by dressing in this way that she may otherwise not have reached. In my time dressing in all black (with the occasional blue-jean, black-t-shirt ensemble) I've been described as "goth," trying to look "like a rock star," and "beatnik."

Am I any of those things? Of course not. Is there anything wrong with them? I sure hope not. Am I any less for God now than I ever was? God has only drawn me closer to Himself.

As Christians, it is not our place to judge. We know that God is the perfect judge of character. Sometimes He will give us warnings about certain dangerous people, but no matter what a person looks like on the outside, remember that God has a purpose for everyone, and only disassociate yourself with people who are harmful to you by their actions.

Be forgiving. Be careful. But don't judge a book by its cover.

I swear, Moby d**k is really good, but the holiest book, the words of God, the Bible, is bound so similarly that I carried a copy of the former to school and my schoolmates, knowing me, asked me if it was the latter.

Base your judgements on her by her actions and attitudes towards God and the Church in general, not her clothes or the number of skulls she wears (although please warn her against pentagrams and satanic symbols).

The word satanic only refers to things the church doesn't like
Like the pentagram (more of a pagan symbol)
I'm sure you can think of all sorts of derogatory terms but satanic is the one word that makes me twitch comprende?
So if you could please refrain from using it in this context that would make me a happy camper

all i can say is love her and let her figure out who she is, shes confused. or she just feels comfortable now with becoming who she thinks she is, like I am punk, allways have been. well actually a sorta Gothy-Punky blend that involves my whole personality- but i am overweight (and working on it) so i dont feel comfortable dressing how i want to dress, butonce i lose the weight i will dress more like me, so maybe thats just what your friend is trying to do. or she doesnt know who she is and shes trying to figure it out, or she has forgotten who she is, and needs a strong friend(like you) by her side.

We must be cautious, lordstar. Symbols and words and faith have power.

Also: Satanic. S-A-T-A-N-I-C. Satanic.

Also also: If you knew what I meant, why are you quibbling about semantics? Be understanding and forgiving, like Christ's perfect example.

Satan=bad, pegan=bad, God=good, Christ=Lord. Surely we can agree on those things. It is written in 2 Timothy that we should do our best to avoid little arguments that lead to strife about unimportant things.

In the words of Monty Python: "Let's not bicker and argue about 'oo killed 'oo."

Whatever spirit is in you, lordstar, that finds need to bicker and argue about every little thing I say--it needs to go away. Right now.

Also:

Satanic=bad.
Pegan=just as bad.
God=good.
Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ of God sent for the Jews, God's chosen people, and the gentiles, us=King of Kings, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Living One, Emanuel, Son of Man. Status: Very much alive and well, thank you.

We are way beyond semantics and "little things" my friend

btw #4 was a joke indicated rather bluntly when I retracted any validity of the change
Critical thinking skills at work

And the name-calling is starting to get old
You may want to check the forum rules

Oh and for the record I never asked you to leave
Just in case it comes up
Oh and it is in your best interest we forget about the following line

You don't believe in spiritual warfare, do you, lordstar. You've made it clear you're pegan, I'm curious why you chose to join a Christian guild.

And please inform me what I'm doing that is name-calling. It's fairly obvious it's unintentional, since I've apparently done it several times, but I've not called you anything other than lordstar (and pegan, which you claim to be, but if I'm wrong about that, I apologize for that, too).

And why do you keep insulting my cognitive abilities? If I had no ability to think, I would have failed all the classes I ever took, or at the very least passed with very low D's. I did not. I passed them all quite easily, went straight from Jr. High age and Sr High material to Millikin University, and maintained a 4.0 when I went back to school at Lake Land College (Millikin was, unfortunately, not for credit, but rather was used as my high school curriculum. Danger of being homeschooled, I guess.)

So I ask you again to stop insinuating that I'm some kind of idiot when I don't instantly understand your private little jokes. I know I'm not socially the top notch and there are many people smarter than me, but I'm hardly worthy of such insults.

Pagan is a blanket term m8 and there are all kinds, just like there are all kinds of Christians

You keep saying pagans are bad and you have also equated a large number of people as satanic (a direct violation of forum rules)
This is frustrating to say the least

Now then
GPA is not really the best measure of intelligence (its counter intuitive but I have witnessed not all that bright students obtain A's and highly intelligent students pass with C's or some lower)
btw I am also an honors student
So to be clear I don't think of you as an idiot (perhaps a bit off your game...it happens so no worries)
I will also apologize for my not so friendly side commentary including anything that may have made you feel like I have such low thoughts of you
Also I realize I am a bit fast to scratch back

Ok, let me start out by saying that I very much appreciate your more civil tone.

Also: I have not called one person satanic in the whole of the time I've been posting here. Unless someone was blithely spewing out such things as evidence, the insinuation would not even have occurred to me to make. Only thing I've done is said that satanic=bad. Not that anyone in here was that.

On GPA: I won't spout IQ, as I believe that a woefully skewed and inaccurate measuring stick for intelligence, but, like Windows™, is the de-facto standard for measuring intelligence. Surely you agree that someone could not have skipped four grades and been allowed to sit in on University level classes without some modicum of intelligence.

I'm not attacking you, lordstar. If you got that feeling, please accept my apology.

You would think, hell I would think
That someone who skipped four grades and/or has taken university level classes would indeed be intelligent
However, I have seen some (it is a rare occurrence) students that are just...really not all that bright
Now that I think about it, I have also seen students that seem to be dumb as a brick for months and it turns out they are brilliant (a few had me fooled good for a long time)

satanic=bad
pagan=bad
pagan=satanic
me=pagan

you see where this is going…

Again not malicious and not blunt but still
This sort of thing is not a rare event (not just on gaia)
So my fuse was about burned out before you even posted
not fair...this is true
So I will accept your apology if you accept mine

it's not a sin or anti-christian to dress and act goth/punk/emo etc. and she may be confused. but I have friends that dress that way and they're some of the bestest, funnest, happiest people I know. They just don't like how society expects certain things, or they're making a statement to an authority figure, usually their parents.

What is wrong is that she gossips. my youth group had a sermon on gossiping once, it was just forever ago, and I wish I could remember what they said. sorry. I just know it's wrong, and maybe you could talk to her about it. tell her how it affects you. just don't gossip about her.

In this case, it might be best just to leave her be. Let her do what she wants and make her own mistakes. Just stay by her side and love her.

It is so annoying when someone flicks his or her lights at ya while driving in near zero visibility fog. Makes me want to light them on fire.

boy, i grew up in WA, try having an earthquake while theres two thunderstorms hitting you at once, and the rain feels like water filled golf balls. and it was warm so you dont have a jacket, but now its cold and you are gettin soaked, while battling aftershocks all the way to the football field. of course thats better than a tornado or a hurracane.
