GuardianAngel44 Galad Damodred GuardianAngel44 Galad Damodred GuardianAngel44 I think it's kind of funny. They're scared of offending people by saying the word "Christmas", but they do a whole bunch of other stuff that offends us (well, at least some people), Christians. I mean seriously, what are a bunch of online Jews and atheists going to do? I believe what Gaia is trying to do is use tact and cultural sensitivity. Something you might want to look into, hmm? I believe that if you are offended by the name of a two thousand year old man that you don't even believe existed, then you need serious psychological help. What's wrong with calling it what it is? Oh please, no one who has ever even opened a history textbook would doubt the existence of Jesus. No one with half the brains of a lobotomized beetle and the investigative ability of a disabled teaspoon would think for one moment that Christ didn't exist. Of course Jesus existed. That is not up for debate. Although you have a point. If they're so upset by the name "Christ", why don't they just avoid the "Christ" and "-mas" altogether? I have seen some people who don't. Most atheists I've met are so anti-God that they refuse to believe in Jesus' existence. It's quite sad really. Then you've probably been hanging out around the more imbecilic segments of the atheist population. Alot of Christians I met are so anti-anything-non-Christian that they don't allow their children to be vaccinated against diseases, say that dinosaurs didn't exist, think that that Dawkins fellow - The God Delusion, I think his book is called - is a member of an underground Satanic cult, homeschool their children because none of the schools in their area teach creationism and intelligent design in science class and don't allow their children to enjoy secular media. It's quite sad, really.

I don't mind, because I know why they're doing it, but it's pathetic that there are people out there who get offended just because someone says Merry Christmas. but if I'm texting, I'll say xmas just cause the word christmas is so long, so they could just be shortening it, although it's more likely they're trying to keep peace.

Using Xmas is a old thing to do and the means the same as Christmas. The X is the abbreviation for Christ in Greek. plus the X looked like the cross.

Yeah, I think so. It was supposed to be an insult, but martyrdom tends to unimportanize those things. Yes, I know it's not a word.

He thought it an honour to die the same way as Jesus... but then they turned him upside-down. He prob'ly shoulda kept quiet.

But the name was quite a common name in that period of time. Also, he probably wasn't nailed to the cross, but roped: nails were more expensive back then. He was just the next troublemaker with a new religion and the Romans wanted to keep order. So they got rid of him, like so many others of his kind. You could all just as well have believed in another Messiah, there are plenty of those in Jewish history: fake Messiahs, it's also possible that the Jesus you believe in was one of them.
